No poll this time. (Sorry to all the ones who love polling..., and after this last American presidential election, part of me wants to know why anyone would love polling. lol)

But in my poll about who/what saves, I found a disturbing trend. How people responded to what saved means to them.

So, got to ask.

Okay, so Jesus saves.

Saves from what?

To what?

In fill in the blank method, it looks more like this:
Jesus saved me from _____ (and more than one word is fine) to put me _____.

Jesus saved me from the penalty of sin, separation from Him for all eternity, to put me in right standing with Him so we can have an eternal relationship of love.

Jesus saved me from eternal separation and hellfire on account of my sin, and put me in communion with God.

Jesus saves...from yourself.
And to...?

When I was a kid, my oldest brother and I went out before dawn in a blizzard and found a rowboat with an eight inch hole in the bottom. We "plugged" the hole with a rag in the boat and took off into a small bay. In about ten minutes we barely landed at the edge of a marsh. Not saved yet. My first step out of that boat made my boot go so deep into the mud that it was covered before I could pull my foot out.

Ultimately, big bro saved me from drowning, getting sucked into mud in a swamp, and a blizzard, but we weren't really saved until we reach the back door of our grandparent's house and walked in.

So saved from drowning, burial, and freezing to dried off, warmed up, put into jammies for bed, and cream of wheat.

You've got saved from self, but to what?

You said exactly what I was thinking, we are saved from "eternal separation from Him (hell)" and He reconciled me to Himself as we were created to be. That's my understanding as well.

I guess that I would say that I was saved from the actions of my sins and to have life and have it more abundantly.

In a nutshell........“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

A study of Isaiah chapter 53 will answer this

Jesus saved me from self destruction (and more than one word is fine) to put me on a different road leading to His kingdom. Reading the road signs is important, and many times I have to go back and see what they actually said. (smile)
