I was studying up on the history of the modern translations, and I ran into Darby. That guy was clearly one with satan. But what's worse is that it appears that most of the modern translations are just copies of his work, and not even original translations at all! Go to bible.cc and compare verses to see for yourself. John 6:69 is a good one to look at. Go to bible.org/netbible and look up this verse - look at the baloney they put in there to describe why they chose that Darby translation. Even their own explanation exposes them. I wonder how the NET Bible people could spend so much time pretending to be scholars when they simply copied Darby. There is a list of Darby changes on the internet. See for yourself!

The net bible on John 6:69 seems to be a direct translation of the Greek, was is your issue with it Peter?

The Darby Bible is okay.
I can think of better things to do than sit around and criticize Darby.

Maybe you should study up on his biography, as well as that of Scofield. I detest "illuminated" Bible-smiths..

Huh intersting topic, I've looked into that verse, what's the issue with it, is it because some bibles say the living God or as well some say the Holy One?

IMO the NIV isn't a good translation they seem to apply to much of their own dialog into it.

The good ones appear to say 'the Son' and 'the Christ'...the phony ones strip that.

That's something to look into indeed, I assume why some use the phrase "Holy One" is probably formed out of the meaning of Christ which I think means the anointed One.

All depends on which Greek text is used. So the version reflects the Greek text used
If you look at all of the things on that Darby page, and compare them to the parallel translations on bible.cc, it appears that there are an anomalous number of versions which line up rather strangely... The aramaic Bible appears to match everything with the King James..the Webster, etc..but all of those modified verses match through the NIV, Darby, and other weird Bibles. One in particular refers to Christ as HAVING COME in the flesh, and others suggest something about "his coming" which is suggestive of future tense. Just see how they all match up as regards that list and the bible.cc. It is beyond chance, it is clearly intentional.

This issue is not Darby (whoever that is, no idea) vs some other translator.

This issue is "oldest manuscripts" vs "traditional manuscripts".

Oldest manuscripts have καὶ ἡμεῖς πεπιστεύκαμεν καὶ ἐγνώκαμεν ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ Ἅγιος τοῦ Θεοῦ. (Holy one of God)

Traditional manuscripts have Καὶ ἡμεῖς πεπιστεύκαμεν καὶ ἐγνώκαμεν ὅτι σὺ εἴ ὁ χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ζῶντος. (Christ and son of the living God)

So the difference is in Greek, not in English.

What do you think about the other changes on that list?

Well if you go and earn a couple Phds in ancient Hebrew and Greek and become proficient enough to read the bits and pieces of the original scrolls then you may write your own bible and let the world choose which one they will read.

Beyond that you will need to simply trust God to reveal His truth through the imperfect translations that He has made available to you. God is able to preserve His word and use it to bring souls to eternal life through mercy and grace in Christ.

Read them all if you wish but choose one that you will read and then read it.

I will admit that it is hard to believe that God is the one who made the Message Bible available to me... And upon that reasoning, I am doubtful of others. Satan can also provide weird stuff to confuse the world..

It's not intentional Pete, it's Grek text driven.

The claim is made that certain bibles, for instance the netbible. that because of John 6:69 (I don't read John 6:66) the version is denying that Christ is the Son on God.

This is not the case because you will find the same version stating he is the Son of God in other verses/passages.

That's the ol' KJV onlylist sleight of hand trick.

I like the KJV but it has some translation issues that can mislead the reader if that are unaware of some of the issues.

I do not know why do you have so high ideas about Greek language.

Yoou really do not need any Phd to read pieces of Greek texts. I also have no Phd in English and still I can communicate here on CC quite normally... Yes, I mess up with "the, a", sometimes use wrong tenses etc, but it really is not so hard to learn a language.

The Hebrew to English says the same thing as Darby in John 6:69. It's a translation.

As regards language, wasn't the book of Matthew first spoken of as being available in Aramaic?
Do we have to be Greek-only?
