We do not. They are just that, the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit in you will grow them.

Faithfulness.

Fruitfulness.
John 15
1“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2“Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Also, whenever the church is lacking spiritually, God will choose a servant to make them fruitful in the lacking area.

I pray everyday for the fruits of the spirit in my life, I think we should pray for them, as surely God hears us and will give the holy spirit to His sons who ask Him.

Hi Mooky,

As a believer, we all have the fruit of the Spirit. As we grow, learn and are transformed by the renewing of the mind, we learn what it means to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. We continue to put off that old man and walk in the new man instead.

Paul says to walk in the Spirit so if we are walking in the Spirit we are bearing fruit.

Ephesians 5:8-10
.....for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

Matthew 25
29For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 30“Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Hi Stephen,

I believe God uses all of us, the one anothering to help grow us up. But no one servant makes us fruitful. That's the Holy Spirit's job as mature and walk in obedience.

In John 15, we read about abiding in the Vine and the Vine bringing forth fruit in our lives.

The word "fruit" is translated from the Greek word karpos.

Here is what HELPS word-studies says about karpos:
2590 karpós – properly, fruit; (figuratively) everything done in true partnership with Christ, i.e. a believer (a branch) lives in union with Christ (the Vine). By definition, fruit (2590 /karpós) results from two life-streams – the Lord living His life through ours – to yield what is eternal (cf. 1 Jn 4:17).

HELPS Word-studies copyright © 1987, 2011 by Helps Ministries, Inc.

As we abide in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Father carefully tends to our lives, cleansing us of the filth and impurity of this world, and the Lord Jesus Christ infuses our lives with His life.

Another thought --- what is the purpose of the fruit? Do we bear fruit only for ourselves? Or do we bear fruit for the Lord Jesus Christ?

We bear the fruit of our Lord Jesus Christ so that others may see and be drawn to our Lord Jesus Christ. Then He can work in others to bring forth fruit to even more.

Good post renewed daybyday.

I like the Greek meaning as well as the Hebrew or Aramiac meanings some meanings have it as (posterity) which is kind of want happens when one becomes part of the vine then produces fruit as in a posterity form.

Yes, Desertsrose . . . Being believers we have been given through the divine nature, love, joy, peace, etc. the fruit of the Spirit. It is up to us to manifest those attributes in our lives and we do it by renewing our minds to the word of God and by practicing love, joy, peace, etc. Sometimes these attributes do not come easy but we have them - just need to exercise them . . . Let the fruit of the Spirit become habitual in our lives by putting away anger, corrupt communication, let him that stole steal no more . . . IOW - change out old habits (old man) with new habits (new man).

How do we grow in them?
Most emphatically the word is 'fruit' - in the singular!
It may have nine flavours but it is singular.

How to grow in this regard - simple:
What is the source of the fruit?
The Holy Spirit, yes!
The truth is, for all of us, is that we do not not need more of the Holy Spirit (we have Him in abundance), rather the Holy Spirit needs more of us...
Ponder on this.

In order to have the fruits of the Spirit manifest themselves in our lives we must walk in the light of the truth about who we really are and who God has made us to be. We are the righteousness of God in Christ and in fact the Word says that we are as Jesus is here and now (1 John 4:17). Once we start to realize our true identity and put aside our pride and ego and understand it is God who changed us and not us who changed us then we can start to walk in faith. Once we walk in faith the fruits will manifest themselves in our lives.

This is in essence the spiritual awakening that occurs when we change from toxic faith to genuine faith. Instead of attempting to reach religious goals to satisfy our need for self worth we start to rely on God and begin to see that He and He alone makes us worthy. Sounds simple enough but as I have found both here and elsewhere and in fact in my own walk it is a difficult thing indeed.

To believe we are made worthy not by our actions but by God requires a leap of faith many simply are not ready for and it goes against what many religions teach. It is however the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray, read the Word and have faith and trust that God will get you there.

yes, but we must also learn and desire to 'leap' in the Faith that we have been given,
else our steps will cease...

Indeed we do. If you take the fruits of the Spirit, and put them in a circle list instead of a straight line- you'll have your answer where the beginning and end meet. Love is self-control, and self-control is love. Self-Control is done by self.
