    Default Be perfect.

"Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you." -2 Corinthians 13:11

Not only is it possible to be perfect in this life, but it is our calling, in works and in faith.

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48 KJV)

This passage invokes the concept of striving to mature (be perfect) in the Name of Christ Jesus. We are to be "imagers" if Him.

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren." (Romans 8:29 KJV)

It's like the moon not having it's own light, but being a reflection of the light of the sun, in a parable definition, not a sun worshipping tradition of paganism.

It may be possible but it's highly improbable. Certainly something to strive for though with the grace of God.

Christ is our perfect High Priest. A priest represents the people as can be seen in the "shadow" of the law of Moses. Jesus as the Son of Man stands in our place before the Father.

The only way to "be perfect" is to be in Christ and Christ to be in us.

Jesus is our Advocate who ever lives to intercede for us ( intercede means "to stand in the place of" ). 1 John 2:1

    Hebrews 12:22-24 (NASB)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,

23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

The word of God tells us its beyond possible. All things are possible with God.

"..but its highly improbable." <-- you need to let go of this mindset, its faithless and heartbreaking in God's eyes.

Perfect means complete. The Greek word for “perfect” is telios. It means “brought to its end, completed, or perfect.” So, to be “perfect” in this sense is to be completed in Christ.

Good post...What does "Christ" mean? Its not Jesus' last name. In Christ....In the anointing of Jesus, wherewith we are also anointed.....If we walk in this anointing it is not at all impossible for us to be perfect. If we walk in this anointing, we will be perfest. I am the righteousness of God in the anointing.

Hello everyone. My understanding is that Jesus was our example, living a perfect life in the same flesh that we are in, showing us that if we lean completely upon our heavenly Father as He did, we can be perfect as God is perfect. Praise the LORD!

When we got saved GOD made our spirits perfect and then sealed but the flesh Is not yet perfect, purchased but not yet redeemed, nevertheless we should be renewing our minds to the new creature we have become.

    Paul wrote
    Romans 12:1-2
    King James Version(KJV)

1,)I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2.)And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
IF you do not realize that the rebirth took place in your spirit then it can be confusing to your mind worshiping GOD standing in front of a physical mirror.

"Perfect", as often used in Scripture, should have been translated as "mature".

After all, there was only One Who walked in the flesh Who was perfect. The best the rest of us can do is mature in the Word.

    Righteousness Through Faith

21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Matt 19:21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

There are some 50 verses in scripture that say we cannot be perfect.

    2 cor. 13 :

    Greetings and Benediction

11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

become complete/perfect is not the same as begin perfect. Yes we constantly strive for
perfection but we are bound by the human condition which is not perfect..still that
should never preclude us from striving for perfect knowing we can't achieve it in this life.

We need to look at this perfection through the eyes of God. In one sense, each and every person who has repented and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ is PERFECT in the eyes of God. Why? Because our faith is accounted for righteousness. Whose righteousness? The perfect righteousness of Christ. And that is why if a believer would die tonight, His soul and spirit would be immediately in Heaven, in the very presence of God and Christ. So this is our positional perfection.

At the same time we are commanded to be perfect -- "holy and blameless before Him in love", and as perfect as our Father in Heaven who is ABSOLUTELY perfect. Which means that Christians are required to mortify the flesh daily, and to walk in the Spirit daily. And that will produce the fruit of the Spirit, which will reflect the character of Christ. Since the sin nature or "flesh" of the believer has not been eradication but he or she has the indwelling Holy Spirit, God says that "sin shall not have dominion over you". Which means that in spite of all our flaws, we have the power to resist sin and evil in our own lives.

There will come a time -- at the Rapture -- when all the saints will be fully perfected, glorified and glorious and the reason for that is that "we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is" (1 John 3:2). So we are perfect, we are being perfected, and we shall be perfect. If this is paradoxical, then that is the beauty of salvation by grace through faith.

But there is another aspect to perfection, which is included in the Greek word -- complete (which implies Christian maturity). And that is the sense in which it is used in 2 Timothy 3:16,17:All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Not only is it possible to be perfect in this life, but it is our calling, in works and in faith.
Luk 6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

    1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1Pe 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
    1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

    Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.

It is obvious if the Bible is telling us we can be like Christ,be perfect as the Father, and be holy,as God is holy,it is possible, and hate sin,and do not want sin,by the Spirit it is possible, for a person led of the Spirit shows the ways of the Spirit, and not the flesh.

There is no excuse, and God will require it of us to be perfect as He is perfect, and however Christ behaved while on earth,do the same.

People do like to make excuses, but they also want to live how they lived before confessing Christ, for they like those ways, but Jesus said any person that puts their hands to the plough, looking back,is not fit for the kingdom of God.Remember Lot's wife.

But many when they confessed Christ did not even start their walk with Christ, because of the denomination they attended belief system, where they confessed Christ, were sorry for their sins, wanted all their past sins forgiven, but did not change like they were supposed to change, but sinned, repented, sinned, repented, but never got rid of the sin,or sins, according to what they like.

They sinned, and repented, but knew they would do the sin in the future after a short stint, thus hanging unto the sin,and thinking they were alright with God.

And there are preachers that preach this way causing them to hold unto sin,and think they are alright with God,and they are not like their master, not perfect as the Father, and not holy,as God is holy.

Jas 3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
Jas 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
Jas 3:3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
Jas 3:4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
Jas 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
Jas 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
Jas 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
Jas 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Be perfect as the Father is perfect, and we have to become unto a perfect man.

The tongue is the most unruliest member of our body, for it will sin more than any other body part, for we might not want people to get hurt physically, but we might not mind slandering them, cutting them down, talking down to them, gossiping about them, and filthy communication out of our mouth, and lying.

If a person can bridle their tongue, the most unruliest member, and cause it to cease sinning, then they can bridle the whole body, and cause it to cease sinning.

But no person can tame the tongue to become unto a perfect man.Only God can tame the most unruliest member of our body, causing the whole body to cease from sinning.

Wrong, Paul wishes to speak boldly against you:

"But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh." -2 Corinthians 10:2-3
