Matthew 27:35-37 King James Version (KJV)
35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
36 And sitting down they watched him there;
37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Matthew 27:35-37 Expanded Bible (EXB)

35 When the soldiers had crucified him, they threw lots [ similar to dice]to •decide who would get [ divide up]his clothes 36 The soldiers sat there and •continued watching [kept guard over] him. 37 They put a sign above Jesus’ head with the charge against him. It said: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

35 So they valued his clothes more then Him as a person. Those doing this further mocked Him. Casting lots was a way to determine what God wanted but God was standing before them on the cross.

36 They watched Him as He died for all our sins. He died also for those that watched on as much as He did for us.

37 Jesus was being crucified for claiming to be king, although the Jews didn’t like that they wanted Him dead for blasphemy but Rome would not kill for that so they had to manipulate to get Him killed. Jesus is both King and God and He died because of who we are, sinners.

My thoughts for verse 35. The garment had no seams. It was unique and thought to be valuable.

What should amaze everyone -- Christian and non-Christian alike -- is that God had planned for the crucifixion of Christ from BEFORE the foundation of the world (1 Peter 1:18-20). And because this is so, His prophets dating from c 1,500 BC to c 400 BC revealed exactly what would happen during the crucifixion. So here we have a prophecy being fulfilled to confirm that God was working out His plan of salvation through the hatred of the Jews and the cowardice of the Roman governor. These soldiers were unaware that they were fulfilling prophecy, but fulfilled prophecy is one of the surest evidences that the Bible is the Word of God.

The soldiers only did what they were told by Pilate who had the sign written and posted above Jesus T cross, Pilate's notice was more than likely the first written verse in the NT. Thus why it is written in scripture.

I'm not saying the soldiers wrote the bible at all, but I can see another symbolic path per say about the dividing up the clothes,

the testimonies about Jesus is divided among four gospels is this just a similarity

Just a side note that I thought worthy. Up until the death of Jesus Christ, Israelites were the only people that killed the Passover Lamb. Jesus' crucifixion was the first time Gentiles did this. That confirms that Gentiles are included in the feast of unleavened bread, the first day of that feast being none other than the "Passover."

Yea but you could also look at it like this. They knew that the Messiah was to come and they were impatiently waiting for him to come they knew he would be crucified by his own people.
The people that considered themselves "Gods people" took it upon themselves to crucify him to fulfill the prophecy
Yes it shows Gods awesomeness, but it also shows the error in the people that considered themselves Gods

It is interesting to note that each evangelist took a portion of the superscription which Pilate had ordered to be written (in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek) possibly to emphasize what was important to that evangelist:

MATTHEW
THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

MARK
THE KING OF THE JEWS.

LUKE
THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

JOHN
JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

So when you combine all of these together you get:
THIS IS JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS
