What quote or phrase do you hear often that people will pass off as being Christian, or a "quote form God" or something they consider profound, when in actuality is not biblical or profound but is just annoying.

And your response to this quote.

I'll start: "Everything happens for a reason".
Response: Sometimes the reason is that you're stupid and make bad decisions.

Go.

Everything do happen for a reason. That's the reason why it happens. for every action, there is a reaction.. only the wise will consider the outcome of their actions before they do anything. but the ungodly will just do it without any consideration of the consequences until it is upon them.

"God helps those that help themselves."

Wrong! We are totally dependent on the life of Christ Himself for us in all things - from washing the dishes to preaching to a million people at once. He is our life.

My old thread on this topic included the phrases "life is about the journey not the destination," "follow your heart," and "respect is earned not given." Then I got jumped on for starting a thread that sowed discord among the brethren.

"God will never let you have to put up with more than you can handle."

Actually, the Bible never says that.... anywhere.

Yes Willie. I think people kinda get that from THIS verse, which only talks about temptation:

[h=1]1 Corinthians 10:13New King James Version (NKJV)[/h]13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

THAT is the very vital part that so many people overlook.

"Love the sinner hate the sin". It is actually a quote from Gandhi, yet passed around in Christian circles.

"God helps those who help themselves" is another one.

"When God closes a door He opens a window" is one too.

There are actually a ton of unbiblical quotes that Christians repeat like parrots, all of those listed above are atleast somewhat clever, but what really annoys me is the type of Christian who lives in open sin on social media with no shame about it, and posts "only God can judge me" without even considering that yes, He will.

Every one is inspired to do something, whether it is of God or man's own inspiration. The results are the same, by the works of their hands they perform.

So I take it that you are implying that the spirit (breath) in man is the reason that all men are totally dependent upon Christ himself for all things?

Yet, in the passage of John 7:16-17 it is written;

"Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. Deut 18:18

Yet Paul writes in Hebrews 6:1; "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection;" For one he tells you who the doctrine's is, and how do you leave a principle since a principle is an everlasting truth which was, is, and will always be true? Why would leave the doctrine of Christ if the doctrine of Jesus said to be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect?

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9
