Our Almighty God (through Christ Jesus) created the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden. I have entertained the thought that this is somehow related to the law that defines good and evil.

“For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. (Romans 7:5-8)

Paul goes on to say things that might be interpreted that the law received by Israel at Mount Sinai causes us to sin when he writes...”The sting of sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.” (1 Corinthians 15:56)

Yet he seems to refute that concept by saying that “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2)

Now if the law of Moses is sin and death, and there is another law of life, then there might be 2 different laws that Paul is mentioning. Nevertheless there seems to be a third law that he is referring to when he writes that.. “the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.”
(Romans 7:12-14)

1. There are some that say there is a different law in the New Covenant, and that one is the law that is spiritual, holy, just, and good.
2. Another point is that there is an ancient law, for Israel only, that causes sin, and that is the one in the Old Covenant, the law at Sinai.
3 Then there is a law of sin and death that could be related to the tree in Eden called the “knowledge of good and evil.”

" For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain." (Galatians 2:19-21)

The phrase "
I through the law am dead to the law" seems to be an oxymoron.

How are we to distinguish the generic term for “law” in the New testament? Seems that one word describes several different entities. What say you?

The Greek word for "law" simply means "principle, rule, or instruction."

Context from the revelation of the Holy Spirit will reveal the use of the term 'law" in scripture. Some people only see "law" or "commandments" and all they think about is Moses and the Old Covenant. Same goes for the word "baptism" too as some only interpret this as meaning "water" but context proves it has different meanings.

There are principles or rules that are in place spiritually or in the spiritual realm.

I agree 100% that the Law of Moses is definitely a manifestation of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that was let loose into this world by Adam's transgression. We can still "partake" of that tree too.

We can see from the garden of Eden that we were never meant to eat from that tree - only God can eat from that tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We live by eating on the tree of Life which is Christ Himself.

The law of Christ Himself is what Christians live by now - which is the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, the law of love, the law of faith, the law of liberty in Christ - they all speak of "Him".

I think it is iniquity. Darkness. It was found in Lucifer. Did it pass on to Adam?

Yes, the word "law" in Scripture can apply to different things, depending on the context. It can mean (1) the whole Old Testament, (2) the Torah (first five books of the Bible), (3) the Ten Commandments, (4) the Old Covenant, (5) the Law of Christ, and (6) the commandments of Christ. Context is critical.

"The Law of Sin and Death" pertains to the commandment given to Adam. So this law states that the consequence (as well as the penalty) of sin is death (which includes both physical death and eternal separation from God, called "the second death"). For Adam the sin was disobedience for partaking of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (and the fruit was definitely not an apple).

The day Adam sinned he was separated from God, so he went and hid himself. Yet he did not drop dead, but lived for 930 years (Gen 5:5). And this spiritual law was in place from Adam to Moses, and only those who believed God (beginning with Abel) and recognized that God would provide Himself a Lamb were deemed to be righteous and would not be eternally separated from God.

Then Moses was given the Ten Commandments, as well as all the other commandments of the Old Covenant. That is when the Law of Sin and Death was codified. Men would have God's standard of righteousness in front of them at all times, and realize that they were breaking the Ten Commandments one way or another because they were sinners by birth and by choice. Hence "the Law was our schoolmaster [literally guardian or tutor, but in fact overseer], to bring us to Christ".

However, when a sinner repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, he is granted the gift of eternal life. Which means that he is now free from the ultimate consequence of the Law of Sin and Death (which is eternal separation from God in Hell). And because he also receives the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit can empower him to obey the essence of the Ten Commandments, which is the Law of Christ or the Law of Love [summed up on the two Greatest Commandments, as well as one word -- agape (Divine love)]. So we come to this Scripture in Romans 13:8-10:

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

The law of sin and death is very strict.

Rom 6:23 . . For the wages of sin is death

That doesn't mean death for all of somebody's sins, no it's much worse than
that. It means death for each sin in accordance with the principle of eye for
eye, tooth for tooth, stripe for stripe, burning for burning, hand for hand,
foot for foot, and life for life.

For example: Say somebody tells 150 lies in their lifetime. Well in order for
the scales of justice to balance properly, the serial liar has to be given 150
death sentences. That right there is a bit of a problem because in order for
the serial liar to balance the scales, he would have to be slain and
resurrected 150 times until his death sentences were completed.

However, according to Dan 12:2, John 5:28-29 there is only one
resurrection allotted per person. What that means is: when serial liars
undergo execution in the lake of brimstone depicted at Rev 20;11-15 they
won't be coming back for another go at it.

So then; the serial liar will never have enough lives with which to satisfy the
law of sin and death for his 150 lies. He'll be able to die for one of his lies,
but a balance of 149 acts of dishonesty will remain on the books to be held
against him forever and ever to time indefinite.

This of course applies to all manner of serial sinners, e.g. J-walking, running
red lights, coasting through STOP signs, exceeding speed limits, infidelity,
casual sex, disrespecting senior citizens, blasphemy, child abuse, employee
theft, animal cruelty, so-called civil disobedience, ridiculing one's parents,
trespassing on private property, littering, reneging promises and/or
agreements, cheating, disturbing the peace, ignoring leash laws, vandalism, etc.

Thank GOD for His Grace and Mercy
There's too many people out there with no appreciation for the tsunami of
justice coming their way at the great white throne event depicted at Rev
20:11-15 where people will be cruelly executed by a means of death akin to
a foundry worker falling into a kettle of molten iron.

Ecc 11:9 . . Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your
heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart
and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring
you to judgment.

Weber I read your list and I honestly thank GOD for His mercy and Grace through our Messiah...

You highlight so much that it seems hopeless... yet... We have Hope.. We have Redemption.. and that is because Heavenly Father ordained Salvation...,

We humble ourselves and hope the King of Kings will Royal pardon us... be Faithful.

Maybe many have not come to fear GOD and then come to Love Him through the Messiah... but you should always tell them the good News rather than condemn with your list... all are condemned but can Repent and Believe:

[h=1]John 3King James Version (KJV)[/h]3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24 For John was not yet cast into prison.
25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

The law of sin and death is not the law of God. The law is holy, as you just quoted. It is the sinner, including his vain attempts of becoming justified by the law.

The law of sin and death: if man sins man dies.
Yes. Paul died before he was killed. "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." (Galatians 2:20)

"Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:11)

The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus and the Law of Sin and Death are the two most powerful Laws in the Universe; the "Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus" alone is stronger than the "Law of Sin and Death"; this means that if the Believer attempts to live for God by any manner other than Faith in Christ and the Cross, i.e, "The Finished Work", i.e., "The Blood of Jesus," they are doomed to failure.

Out of 603,550 men who were readied for war that came out of Egypt under the power of God (Numbers 1:44-46), only two took their inheritance; Joshua (a type of Christ) and Caleb (a type of the body of Christ) (Matthew 7:14). There is only one message that changes the body of Christ into the image of Christ, and that is Jesus Christ and Him Crucified (Romans 8:2, 29, 30, 1 Corinthians 1:17-18, 23, 1 Corinthians 2:2, Galatians 6:14, 2 Peter 3:18 ).

God's prescribe order of victory over sin, the world, the flesh (self), and the Devil is Faith exclusively in Lord Jesus Christ and His Finished Work, i.e., The Cross, i.e., The Blood of Jesus. This is called "The is called "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2)." This can only be accomplished by believing from the heart. This gives the Holy Spirit the legal means to help us in every capacity of life and transforms us into the image of Christ.

If a Christians faith is not maintain exclusively in Christ and His Finished Work, i.e., The Cross, i.e., The BLOOD of Jesus, the works of the flesh will manifest.

Paul tells us this in the 5th Chapter of Galatians. The entire Book of Galatians, but especially the 5th Chapter, is a warning from Paul to the Church at Galatia, which is also meant for us. The warning is that if they place their faith in anything except “Christ and Him Crucified,” that “Christ shall profit you nothing” (Gal. 5:2).

The Apostle goes on to say that if the Believer doesn’t adhere to the Way of the Spirit, which is the Way of the Cross, then works of the flesh will manifest themselves. He said:

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:19-21).

Now let me say it again, because it is so very important:
If the Believer doesn’t understand the Cross of Christ, as it regards Sanctification, then, in some way, one or more of these “works of the flesh” are going to manifest themselves in his life. As stated, such is inevitable! The first four, “Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, and lasciviousness,” are obvious and easily understood. But the modern Christian quickly dismisses “idolatry, witchcraft, and heresies,” thinking they do not really apply today.

For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increases knowledge increases sorrow. Ecclesiastes 1:18
("Wisdom" without God only brings "griefs." "Knowledge" without God only brings "sorrow."
This is not to say that these attributes are disapproved of by the Lord. The meaning is that even these lofty ideals will bring no satisfaction without Christ.)

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21
(Christians who constantly talk doubt, in effect, talk "death." These who speak the Word of God speak "life.")

The "Tree of Life" (Psalm 1:3)
The Way Of The Spirit

Focus: The Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6)
Object Of Faith: The Cross of Christ (Romans 6:1-14)

Results: Victory (Romans 6:14)

The "Tree of the knowledge of good and evil" (Genesis 2:17)

Focus: Works.
Object Of Faith: Performance.

As a Christian we were "set free" the moment we are saved - "made free" speaks of a process. "Set Free," i.e., instantaneous - "Made Free, " i.e., You should know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32, John 14:6). "Made Free" = sanctification.

There remains very much land (sin) yet to be possessed. We can't coexist with sin.

Now Joshua was old, advanced in years. And the Lord said to him: “You are old, advanced in years, and there remains very much land yet to be possessed...Joshua 13:1-12 NKJV

Nevertheless the children of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maachathites, but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day (Gal. 5:19-21). Joshua 13:13 NKJV

But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. (the works of the flesh must go, or else we will find that they will cause us tremendous problems [2 Cor. 6:14-18; 7:1]). 56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them. (sin in the Believer, if left unaddressed, can be condoned by the Lord no more than sin in the unbeliever - even less). Numbers 33:55-56

God's prescribed order of victory over sin, the world, the flesh, and the Devil is to place your Faith exclusively in who Jesus is, and what Jesus has done. By doing so this glorifies Christ that gives the Holy Spirit the legal means to drive out the enemy. The Holy Spirit, He Works strictly within the parameters of the "Finished Work" i.e., "the Cross of Christ", which demands that our Faith be exclusively in the Cross of Christ. The reason is simple, that's were the price was paid, and the victory was forever won (Romans 6:1-14; 1 Cor. 2:2; Gal. 5; Gal. 6:14; Eph. 2:13-18; Col. 2:14-15). The Holy Spirit is the sanctifier for the Christian; we cannot sanctify ourselves.

And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee (Deuteronomy 7:22). The beasts of the field represent pride and self righteousness.

We learn from Deuteronomy 7:21-23, Exodus 23:30 (Type and Shadow), little by little will He remove the sin nature that is made dormant in our lives. Isaiah 28:10 says, "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:"

How does a Believer maintain Faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross? By just believing in Jesus (who He is) and what He accomplished at Calvary Cross. Romans 4:5 - Galatians 2:19-21 NKJV - 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 NKJV - Colossians 2:11-15 NKJV

Romans 8:13 says, "If you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live." Paul warns the Believer, he said, "For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, (the) sin (nature) revived, and I died (failed God by sinning, using the flesh) (Romans 7:9)." Zechariah 4:6

The sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit mortifies the deed of the flesh by changing my condition into my position which is perfect and Holy because God has declared us justified (not guilt and innocent).

As a Christian we were "set free" the moment we are saved - "made free" speaks of a process. "Set Free," i.e., instantaneous - "Made Free, " i.e., You should know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32, John 14:6). "Made Free" = sanctification.

Two kinds of peace
1. Justifying Peace - This is Peace with God, a legal standing. Rom. 8:7; Eph. 2:14-15

2. Sanctifying Peace - This is the Peace of God in the heart. Rom. 8:6; 14:19; 15:13; Gal. 1:3

The first is the result of a legal standing. The second is the result of the Work of the Holy Spirit. The first is static, never fluctuates, the second changes almost from hour to hour. The first, every Christian has, the second, every Christian may have.

the law of sin and death is being under the consequences of not being obedient to the law of the Spirit via works of righteousness done in heart purity. For the wrath of God abides upon the children of disobedience/unbelief 'ie" the law of sin and death, in that the wages of sin is death....be blessed

The law of sin and death is not the law of God. The law is holy, as you just quoted. It is the sinner, including his vain attempts of becoming justified by the law.
i was hoping you'd answer in this thread. :)

John 3-18 he that believes/obeys is not condemned, but he that believes/obeys not is already condemned (under the law of sin and death)

This is a Great question ^^

If u can understand the different "Laws"... then, u will be able to understand ALL of Pauls writings... especially the ones where ppl say that he "contradicts" the Lords teachings ;)
To do this we would need to start a thread about the 8 Bible covenants.....each had their own laws.

Thew New covenant holds to the Law of Christ, which is:
Love God
Love People
Love yourself

If you do these things Romans 13.8-10 says you have fulfilled the law...
