Since posting about Judges, I have found myself trying to make sense of the life of Joshua.

Joshua first appears as a loyal adherent of Moses in the time following the exodus. He then led the Israelite into the promised land following the death of Moses.

The period from the exodus to the death of Moses lasted forty years.

Joshua 5 tells us that all of the men of military age who left Egypt died before the Israelites entered the promised land. Therefore, Joshua was perhaps no older than his mid-fifties when he led God's people across the Jordan.

Joshua and Judges both record that Joshua was 110 years old when he died, and so presumably he lived for at least fifty years after entering the promised land - maybe more like sixty years.

Have I made any mistakes? Leave a comment if I have. Thanks.

Since you posted about getting no action on this thread, I had to come look.

And, as I said in the other thread, it appears that all you have done is merely posted some facts found in scripture, and really gave no particular reason for anyone to further engage with you on the subject.

What more did you want to know about Joshua? Did you hope others would speculate about what kind of a person he was, or what other positions he held, or where he stood in the eyes of the people?

Joshua is also a way of saying the name of Jesus, in the form of Yeshua :)

Yeshua in Hebrew is a verbal derivative from "to rescue," and/or "to deliver."

Since posting this thread, I have read that someone has argued on whatever evidence that Joshua was about 45 at the time of the exodus, in which case Joshua 5 is misleading. All of the men of military age except Joshua must have been dead by the time the Israelites destroyed Jericho.

Joshua and Caleb are tacit exceptions ((Numbers 14:30)).

they must have both been '
military age' at the time they were sent to spy our Canaan ((Numbers 13-14)), right?

Joshua is also used as a sign of the Two Witnesses of the book of Revelation.Him and Caleb are the only two who witnessed the mighty hand of God freeing the Israelite's in Egypt.
Before that, another two witnesses were Moses and his brother Aaron. The four of them all have one thing in common.they were a remnant.Moses and Aaron set aside by God.
Joshua and Caleb The last remnant of the Israelite's that fled Egypt, spent forty years in the dessert before crossing the Jordan into the promise land.
A sign that the Two Witnesses and the remnant are one and the same in the book of Revelation.

Another sign would be the Two spies sent into Jericho. Two spies=two witnesses who are also of the remnant of the surviving that made it forty years in the dessert.
There's a lot of spiritual truths in the book of Joshua. The two spies Hiding in stalk of flak.(used to strengthen bricks used for walls/roads)
Read Ezekiel 8 and God brings Ezekiel to the entrance of the court, where there is a hole in the wall and he is told to dig into the wall. There, the elders and Israelites are doing detestable things.Which is false doctrine,Idol worship. The fact they whitewash these walls leaves a hole in the wall(true doctrine) which the enemy can easily get through.(satan)
that is why the two spies/two witnesses are hiding in the stalks of flak.Too strengthen the people with true spiritual teachings.
Remember Rahab the prostitute asked that they spare her and all that are hers after she hid them? And they said "our lives for yours"(Two Witnesses).Rahab is a sign of the people in the worldly churches across the world."Come out from her my people"(Revelation 18:4)
They escaped over the wall by the velvet rope(blood of Jesus)Going back to Ezekiel 12,The Lord told Ezekiel to dig through the wall into exile and is told to say to them that are watching "I am a sign to you"

Zechariah 3:9
For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Isaiah 8:14-18
He will be a holy place;
for both Israel and Judah he will be
a stone that causes people to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall.
And for the people of Jerusalem he will be
a trap and a snare.
Many of them will stumble;
they will fall and be broken,
they will be snared and captured.” Bind up this testimony of warning
and seal up God’s instruction among my disciples.
I will wait for the Lord,
who is hiding his face from the descendants of Jacob.
I will put my trust in him.

Here am I, and the children the Lord has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the Lord Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.

He must have been over 20 at the time of the exodus, 1447BC.

So over 60 at the time of the entry into Israel, 1407BC.

If he died at 110, then that would have been 1357BC or before.

I read it only because you said that.

I ALWAYS skip long posts.

They seem to be all encompassing sweeping doctrinal booklets. Lol

But it proves a point. Some things are hot topics, some are not.

Also,on the weekends, those with an actual life are offline.

Oh,wait,I once considered myself outside that stereotype.

I guess Joshua was kind of old when he died. I'm not sure exactly of the point of the OP.

You're good with Numbers, that's for sure, your math is right on the money. Those were the only two that were alive at the time the Israelites entered the promised land. Apparently, they were military men. I like the passage in Numbers about the talking donkey. I found it very amusing. :)

I believe that he is trying to either verify or correct his understanding of the timeline.

Ex 17:9
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
KJV
The first mention of Joshua in Scripture shows him in a position of leadership suggesting that he was likely older than in his twenties.

Joshua and Caleb were both numbered with the men of war over 20 who had died in the wilderness.....the only two spared were Joshua and Caleb who had believed the Lord and urged the people to go in and take the land......

A interesting concept is found in Moses and Joshua...

Moses represented the law, sinned once under the law and was not allowed to enter and or deliver the children of Israel into the land of rest. The law or adherence to it will never deliver anyone into the rest that can be found in Christ.

Joshua on the other hand was the one that delivered the people into the land of rest....as it takes a savior to do such.

Moses (the LAW as a school master) leads us by the hand and points us to the means of entry.....the Savior (Joshua)
