Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

NASB

Heb 6:4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

Heb 6:5 nd have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,

So what do you think the above means?

Probably about the same thing this means:
Matthew 16:28
KJV
Verily I say unto you, there are some standing here who shall not taste of death till they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom.”

Experience.

I find that...No matter how hard I try, I don't find any words to describe it really...

It's like honey, rich, sweet, smooth, memorable, full of expectation,
satisfying, filling, refreshing, never runs out.

Ive physically tasted it in a spiritual way. It's kind of hard to explain but
unlike John on Patmos, there was no bitter after taste, just a longing for
more and more.

During an amazing time with the worship team one evening, we prayed for each
other after and an amazing thing happened to several of us.

When I got home even though it was late, all I wanted to do was read the bible.
It was as if I was reading it for the first time, every word, every letter,
even the punctuation marks just seemed to leap off the page and have this far
deeper meaning. It's really hard to try to write down what I felt but to me, I felt
like I was eating/digesting the word of God. I couldn't get enough of it.
Even the spaces between the words suddenly seemed to have a purposeful
meaning. I actually rang someone at midnight saying listen to this! And I
started reading them passages of the bible. It was like a massive new first
time discovery. Lol They must have thought I'd gone dippy.

I remember at the time thinking that I knew exactly how John felt.
It was like eating the word of God, like eating spiritual honey.

It is a spiritual tasting, not a physical one. It reminds me of the song..

Have you ever stood at the ocean,
with the white foam at your feet,
felt the endless thundering motion?
Then I'd say you've seen Jesus my Lord.

Have you ever stood at the cross,
seen a Man hanging in pain,
seen the look of love in His eyes,
then I'd say you've seen Jesus my Lord.

In other words, seeing, feeling, tasting of things that are not of this world (God, love, heaven), and feeling its goodness, holiness, purity, and innocence, yet not wanting to be part of it. But would rather go back to the world- that person could never return, because their heart is not attracted like a magnet to what is Holy, spiritually clean, and good. Their heart is not the right kind of soul to accept and grow the seed of righteousness. They are like dry hard soil, so a seed cannot take root. They recognize what it is, but they don't accept it nor desire it.

Yes, it is fine, but it also refers to the Church as communion; the Church fellowshipped by eating together

Acts 2:42
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

and here is the un-fellowship

[h=1]1 John 2:19[/h][FONT=&quot]19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.[/FONT]

Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost.
It is tasting of the graciousness of Jesus, and the Word of God both the Logos and the rhema as Peter wrote of in I Peter 1:23-2:3. David speak of this good taste in Psalms 34:8.

But in this passage it also refers back to Hebrew 5:12-14; where the writer of Hebrews corrects them for still needing milk and having not yet grown enough in the Lord to digest meat. It is very similar to Paul message to the church of Corinth in I Corinthians 3.

But basically it is receiving the wonderful grace of Jesus that we all as an evil and dying world needed. By fully tasting and digesting we will follow Christ the First Begotten of the dead, Revelations 1:5 into life. IMO, the writer of Hebrews was exhorting others to not only taste but fully digest the gracious goodness of God.

Job 12:9-13
9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

11 Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

There is a difference between tasting and drinking......Jesus knew of this concept too..

Matthew 27:34 (KJV)
[SUP]34 [/SUP] They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when
he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

Matthew 26:27-28 (NASB)
[SUP]27 [/SUP] And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you;

[SUP]28 [/SUP]
for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.

John 7:37-38 (KJV)
[SUP]37 [/SUP] In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and
drink.

[SUP]38 [/SUP] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

John 4:14 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a
well of water springing up to eternal life."

Notice that 1 Corinthians 12:13 says drink into one Spirit, not taste into one Spirit

Excellent post! They had tasted in such a way as to give them a distinct impression of its character and quality, yet they still fell away. Inherent in the idea of tasting is the fact that one might or might not decide to accept the thing that is tasted.

Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

Isaiah 42:16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

John 6:35 I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 3:16-19 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

The writer of Hebrews had had a different style of language, there is much more imagery and word usage and vocabulary varies a great deal from the other writers.

I love that God uses someone's distinct voice and literary style to impart the same truth a saved person is saved.

What is impossible.... is for the saved person (born again) person to try renew themselves unto repentance again and again like the Hebrews did under the old system.

It is impossible to be saved more than once (renew again unto repentance), because this means that they are crucifying Jesus afresh.

The writer is saying you are saved stop trying to lay the same foundation over and over again move onto being perfect in Christ.

Yet we have a thread on here by a person claiming we can't know we are saved.

Or, maybe Paul is saying that any Jew who falls is away is stuffed, because they'll be destroyed in the destruction of Judea, out of which only the Church will escape
