I have heard multiple things about the Houston flood in relationship to Lakewood

I heard that he (Joel) wouldn't open the church to those in need of shelter and help.

imput on this subject, is what i am after

my personal opinion is, if in fact the stories are true, he has done some serious damage, to quasi believers. there are many, myself included that at minimum didn't trust Joel O. all he did was to reawaken the fire against rich pastors.

TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN MUCH IS EXPECTED

any imput is welcomed

Well his example of Christ, is not there. But if you actually look up Joel's teachings, it's actually based off of new age satanism. But also, if he doesn't want to open his church, he has every right not to. Is it right? In my opinion , yes. But is it of Christs love, no.

Osteen responded to this by saying he was not asked to open his Church as a Shelter. I guess it didn't occur to him to open his Church as a Shelter without having to be asked? In any event, one has to remember that Osteen is a Prosperity Preacher who places great emphasis on personal wealth. So, I imaging Christian Charity is not a priority? After all, there isn't any profit in running a Shelter........(just me being snarky there :) )

I saw an interview where he plainly said they flooded with the last hurricane. So they built flood-walls. And the water was already within one foot of the top of their flood protection walls, and still rising.

Several other shelters in Houston took in people.... and they promptly flooded, forcing many of the people to have to be evacuated a second time.

How stupid of anyone to think that they should have done the very same thing when it looked like the church might also be flooded in a matter of hours.

Some people are so sick with the disease of wanting to deride Osteen, that they don't even bother to put their brains in gear before they run their mouths.

I often wonder when I hear people attacking a joel osteen or any other televangelist how many thousands of people they have helped lead to Christ and how many the attacker has helped lead there? No, I am not a joel osteen fan but Jesus did say....well lets take a look...

Mark 9:39-41 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

I'm no fan of Osteen, but I would encourage all believers to check out the facts FIRST rather than share the opinions of ignorance.

That Scripture isn't a defense of heretics.

People will do anything to pick on the guy. :D He said that the church is/was flooded as well. I guarantee you he does way more charity than many regular joes.

I'm pretty surprised nobody has brought up these verses yet.
Philippians 1:15-18
It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains[SUP].[/SUP]But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

well, for once there seems to be a modicum of agreement concerning Trump, except of course he had the nerve to show up earlier than some thought he should

so as the good Christians we are, let us move on to worthier targets

oh dear

if you are going to lob mortar, at least use the correct expression for your ire

when you call someone a cash cow, it means they are the ones from whom the money is derived

therefore, what you actually mean to say, is that Osteen has a very large heard of cash cows

you're welcome

a couple of days ago it was meself, me own good character, the good people of this forum were attempting to assasinate

I must remember to write Joel a thank you note for the re-direct

some of you good people would have helped stone Stephen

you know, you would actually have a better target if you went after the false apostle club

not that they will care, but you will soon understand what some people here think 'touch not mine anointed mean'

I think a person could make good money selling torches, clubs and various throw-able farming equipment in this forum

I have a contact list for the willing entrepreneur  :p

I read many of the comments on line and it was like blood in the ocean of sharks. Sooo many people couldn't wait to take opportunity to bite and devour. Thank you for your post Willie. Many people are sick with the devil's disease of condemnation., even drunk with it.

Are there other Scriptures that denounce heretics?
Yes. But remember that Timothy was also an authority within the Church.

What is happening today is we got people taking the pastoral letters and applying it to themselves to become the ultimate heresy hunters. Granted I am guilty of this myself on occasion too.
The people who were denouncing the false teachers were people of authority, the apostles, not joe shmoe.
