Does the Holy Spirit convict the born again believer of sin?

Hi MercR, Here is where I get that from:



1Jn 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

John is declaring to them what they have seen and heard and says that the intend is:

"that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ."

The purpose is so that they may have fellowship with them. And then he shows that they/John and the like have fellowship with the father and Jesus.

The purpose is to bring them into this fellowship with Christ.

John desires that their joy may be made full in the next verse.

Thus it is evident they do not yet have fellowship with those who have fellowship with Jesus and their joy is not yet full.

1Jn 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

notice John declares this to them as if they have not yet learned this.

These are not seasoned Christians being spoken to here. It would seem that out of the believers there are some who do not yet understand salvation and true repentance. John was dealing with this issue so that they knew why Jesus came and that one needs to agree they are sinners in order to find forgiveness in Christ and cleansing.

It does indeed.

I believe that the intent here is that John and other mature Christians already enjoy fellowship with the Father (in prayer) and with Jesus (in their daily walk) and that the purpose of his letter is to help the reader to be included in that fellowship.

I can see where you got your idea now but I disagree with your application of it.

If God is no longer imputing your sin anymore then he is no longer convicting you of your sin. Or else you would still be guilty of your sin and God would still be counting your sins as a lost sinner. But this is not true nor biblical for the born again believer who is forgiven of all their sins.

I would stop trying to believe the lie from the accuser of the brethren that God is still convicting the born again believer of their sin. That is a lie of Satan in a lot of legalistic churches. It's important we take correction and stay away from the the yoke of bondage.

Yes, Romans10:17, you notice "hearing " twice because the Holy Spirit is speaking to us when we pay attention to God's word. Jesus said in John6:63 that God's word is comprised of the Holy Spirit and life.

This is heresy.

Sin is damage, it destroys lives and leads to death.
Ofcourse God is going to convict of sin, because we are no longer sinners but saints walking
in love and Holiness.

We have been made perfect in Christ.

Those who preach against conviction are just sinners running away from God and do not have
the love of God in their hearts.

Gods ways are the ways of love and life, and sin is rebellion against this.
You cannot abide in sin and claim you know Jesus.

It is incompatible, and unloving.

Do you say to a woman you love her as you rape her?

Sin is this destructive and speaks of the rebellion it is and shows the words of commitment
and dedication are empty and not of God.
