Why do some Christians pile scripture mountain high in their thread's opening post. Leaving the reader to engage with a small amount of the OP's original content.

(I'm thinking about Jesus here and how he used scripture) For the life of me I can not think where he would have dumped mountain's of scripture on anyone, just to get his view across.

Then, beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained
to them all the passages of Scripture about Himself.

Jesus did use OT scripture on more then a few occasions in His time physically on earth.. But He usually used one verse here and one verse there..

Swamping people with 20 - 30 verses is very counterproductive because most people do not like reading long drawn out posts on their screens.. it is tireing.. So many people will just read the heading and maybe start reading the first verse and then realize that the post is a huge one and they will stop reading and move on...

It is better if you are going to post multiple verses to break them apart with personal comentary giving personal input in interpreting the verses will keep people interested for longer as they consider your thoughts in relation to the scripture you quote..

Some people unfortunatly are just trying to impress others with their Biblical knowledge and go overboard with every verse that is somehow related to the topic even if the link is doubtfull..

The posts that really get under my nerves are the massive Cut and Paste jobs.. People who never wrote the document just copying it from their favored preacher or teacher and posting it as if it is their work.. When you try to engage them in a deep discussion about the topic it becomes clear that they are only just re-posters who do not have in-depth knowledge of their own posting.. I prefer when people give their own work because when you engage them they can quickly respond expounding on what they have posted..

Maybe it's due to an obsession with Gods word, I can never understand why they do that.

Perhaps I never will.

Nothing wrong with being focused on Gods Word.. The message of God should be peoples main focus.. Gods Word is powerful to those who are embracing it as true.. One verse or two is more then enough for those who love the truth.. A flood of verses is a waste of energy.. The believers do not need to see a flood and those who reject the Message of God are not effected by 2 verses or 200 verses..

So obsessed is not the right word, I guess if you were obsessed with scripture it would work out different.

Anyway, thanks.

As a new member you're still figuring the site out. The BDF (Bible Discussion Forum) is full of people all convinced they're right. And all these people think different things are right.
So when they start threads they "scripture blast (just made that up, haha) in some free effort to prove how researched they are, how right they are and how irrefutable their viewpoint is.
Which never works. But it still seems to be the attempt, either way.

He he ha, but at least God took his time.
God has all the time in the world, and then some :D

But you make a good point, for it is better to develop your ideas as
people respond, rather than start with an OP others find inaccessible.

Just some things that come out of religion confuse me so so much.

Using scripture is far better than using opinion.

I think the proliferation of verses is to teach US to be able to do like Jesus did, and simply speak the Bible to them in everyday language.

I suspect we surrender to laziness when all we do is merely quote Scripture at them. I certainly feel it may show that we might not truly understand what we are quoting.

Scripture is for doing, right?
