If they violate My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
Then I will punish their transgression with the rod
And their iniquity with stripes.
But I will not break off My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
My covenant I will not violate,
Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.

(Psalm 89:31-34)

that really sums it all up, doesn't it?

i read this at my local church while the pastor was delivering a sermon on a pretty much totally unrelated topic - from his sermon text, as is my habit, i started reading more context, and following trails of cross-reference and other scripture that i was reminded of, and came upon this Psalm.

when i read it, i immediately remembered this thread, as i had read it and been thinking about the responses earlier, and i thought "
ah! this is exactly how obedience relates to salvation, isn't it?"

i thank the Lord Christ, who opens the eye and directs my path :)
