Let us be careful that we are not overcome by the teachings of the false grace of God that ungodly men have created and tempted us with.

We are heavily warned about this, especially in Jude's short and urgent letter and Peter's 2nd. The early saints that preached righteousness said themselves that damnable heresies would be brought in, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness (unbridled lust), causing men to deny God in works and being abominable and reprobate, even though they profess with their mouths to know God just like Paul also warned about in his epistle to Titus. It is so true today, I pray you will read these verses I list so you can see it for yourself. The true grace that brings real salvation teaches us to live GODLY LIVES in this present world, not the opposite like most believe.

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and GODLY IN THIS PRESENT WORLD" -Titus 2:11-12
=======

"Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: a heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children which have FORSAKEN THE RIGHT WAY AND ARE GONE ASTRAY" ...."WHILE THEY PROMISE LIBERTY, THEY THEMSELVES ARE THE SERVANTS OF CORRUPTION: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought into bondage. FOR IF AFTER THEY HAVE ESCAPED THE POLLUTIONS OF THE WORLD THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, they are AGAIN entangled therein, and overcome, THE LATTER END IS WORSE WITH THEM THAN THE BEGINNING. For it had been BETTER for them TO NOT HAVE KNOWN THE WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, than, AFTER they have known it, TO TURN FROM THE HOLY COMMANDMENT DELIVERED UNTO THEM. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog is TURNED TO HIS OWN VOMIT AGAIN.." -2 Peter 2:14-22
=======

"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain MEN CREPT IN UNAWARES, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, UNGODLY MEN, TURNING THE GRACE OF GOD INTO LASCIVIOUSNESS, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which KEPT NOT their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. EVEN AS SODOM AND GOMORRHA, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth FOR AN EXAMPLE, SUFFERING THE VENGEANCE OF ETERNAL FIRE." -Jude 1:3-7

Contend for "the true faith that was ONCE delivered to the saints" like Jude, Peter, Paul and now myself urge you to do.

Preach righteousness. Don't deny God with your works, instead glorify God with them and be led by the Spirit of God EVERY STEP for the rest of your lives.

Jude is exhorting believers to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints (vs. 3) because certain ungodly men who have crept in unnoticed. Jude further describes these ungodly men as ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit (vs. 19). In CONTRAST to those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ (vs. 1).

Thank you! So many on here are using the grace of a God as a license to sin, and looking at me like I'm crazy to think God must be obeyed. To them obedience is optional, and in their minds they cannot lose salvation (which is so not true), therefore they have no restraints against sensual indulgences of any kind, not just sexual. Because in their minds they need to put forth no effort, trusting that Christ does everything on His part, and they need do nothing.

That's like a bride saying to her husband "I married you, now I do not need to put any effort into this marriage, it's all on you. Also being faithful to you is optional, since I know you can never divorce me. I don't have to help with the house, the kids, I can spend as much money as I want without us making that decision together, or any decision together, because I am now free to do whatever I please." And him saying "I thought marriage was a partnership, where we both put forth effort." And she responds "No, after marriage I need only trust in your efforts. To give any effort on my part would be to discredit your efforts, sweetheart."

Perfect love drives out fear- if you love God perfectly (that is to obey Him perfectly- "If you love Me you will obey what I command.") you need not fear. But who here obeys perfectly that they do not need to fear God in order to not sin?

Classic pincer movement. One side attacks grace as too free. The other side attacks grace as too restrictive. One side claims no obedience and the other teaches hyper obedience.

Lu 6:39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?

Yep...and he compared those false teachers to three false teachers....Cain who pushed HIS WORKS, Balaam WHO did it for money and Core who attempted to usurp the one called by God to lead the people.......

Imagine that!

"Hyper Obedience"? We are to obey God the best we can! We are supposed to be ridding our lives of sin, with grace, patience, and mercy covering when we fail, but yes, our effort is 100%.

In the case of Lazarus and the rich man, even when the rich man was in torment, his personality remained the same. He still thought of himself first. He still expected others to serve him. He still expressed no concern or remorse for Lazarus. We all have parts of our personality that we need to change to match Christ's, and now is our time to do that. "Be Holy as I am holy."

Yes, I trust in grace, but I don't take advantage of it! There are times when I am tempted to sin, and I see Christ being tortured, the look of pain in His eyes, the immense effort of love and self-control, knowing He can end it right now, but doesn't for our sake, and I can't do it! Knowing that it was my sin that caused His suffering, I cannot look into His eyes, with blood dripping down from His forehead, and say "You got this, I'm just gonna go ahead and sin, cause You got my back, thanks." Then pat Him on the shoulder and walk away. I could not say to Him "All effort is on Your part." Or "I do not need to obey You, or to try to be like You."

Set the thought of grace aside for a moment. Now think, don't you want to put forth effort not to sin just for the reason of not breaking God's heart? Don't you want to be good for Him, not just because He's done 100% effort for you, but because He is holy and good and you love Him? Or would you rather get out a calculator and say "Ok, let's see how much I have to obey You." Those who do not want to obey God from the heart are in denial that they'll make it to heaven. The underlying purpose of His guidelines will be met- even for those who distort those guidelines. For example, you can add an 'o' to a stop sign to make it say "stoop" and tell people "It means to bend, not to stop." But those who don't put forth effort to stop, with or without the sign, will go to jail. (Don't correct me on actual land law, you know the point I'm making).

The balancing act of being Christ-like, and being Christ, is very hard feat in accomplishing. Seems the "efforts" trend towards legalism, yet, not in the way Paul was explaining it. (paraphrase) "I can eat meat offered unto idols!...Yet, should, it cause a weaker one to stumble?...then "I" (Paul) shall not indulge in these things!" It requires a lot of discipline, in this eating meat offered unto idols, and not "polluting, or profaning" Jesus', Gods' Holy Name, as well, as not becoming polluted, or profane yourself! Whereas, during Jesus' ministry on earth, he was considered, and accused of being quite the party animal! Associating with the "seedier" side of "society", as it had become. So hard, it is, that tiz much easier for some to just abstain, and preach/teach this "lifestyle", because that is all one is doing. In other words, what Jesus said. "You spend so much effort/s in keeping the outside of your cup looking clean, yet pay no mind to what is in the inside!" To further complicate the matter, of this abstaining, are these aforementioned "weaker" ones. Are they "playing limbo" with you? To See how far you would go, to keep them from going astray? Or, is it the "Higher Calling" OF God? Tough one!...Ain't it? :cool:

You can do this to the best of your ability, and be the most righteous man woman and child who ever lived, and you still would fall well short of Gods standard. Which ONLY CHRIST was able to fulfill.

Trying to earn Gods love and salvation by obedience is a fruitless act which will fail 100 % of the time, and will never make a person worthy of heaven.

Righteousness is not in deeds but in the heart. You cannot rid yourself of sin and you must take full advantage of grace. Grace is the only thing that avails before God.

All of mans righteousness is as filthy rags before God.

Surrender yourself to Christ and allow Christ to minister through you.

Hyper obedience teaches that God is impressed with what you do. Only Christ did what pleased the Father for righteousness sake.

I read a thread by markR explaining we should talk about the topic only and not the people, and I agree with that. I see no reason to name names because that only would incite a verbal riot. I like this thread, and hope it keeps on the way it is.
