Just say for arguments sake, that we did know for sure when the return of
Christ was - say it was 31.2.2018, what would you do with that information.

If me I sure wouldn't be on CC arguing and debating, I would be out there
presching the gospel, telling family, friends, everyone I knew. Plus making sure
I was right with God. I would give up my job as well and stop buying "things".

I might even grow a beard and turn into a modern day Noah!

Actually that reminds me, as a teen I use to have little badges on my jacket
and pencil case with John 3 v 16 and Jesus saves - I wanted to tell everyone. Lol

Well, since I don't see the word rapture in my Bible, in any of the 4 languages I read, including Greek and Hebrew, it is you have faulty inferences. Again, I have repeated stood against dispensationalists madness, exactly because of what I see over and over in this forum. And Babylon Bee seems to have seen it too!

I'm not going to debate the ridiculousness of this imaginary secret rapture, I have posted enough on other threads! This thread was supposed to be fun, but I should have realized that some people without a sense of humour would have taken it badly!
Oh no, first it was Santa is really your Mom and Dad, and then my older sister tells me the easter bunny is not real, and there is no Gotham City. Now your going to open my eyes and tell me Jesus is coming back but the rapture is a lie, so that coloring all those easter eggs every year won't save my soul either. Oh man pass me the Tylenol PM I've got a big headache...:(

That is an interesting question, honestly I would probably just do what I always do seeking God out everyday however and whenever I can doing anything I can to help pothers and to help others to grow closer to him. I don't tend to live in the state of mind where if 31.2.2018 was when he was coming that I would change my way of life I live in the moment going full throttle for God so there would be no need to change anything regardless how much time was left.

IMO When in Mt 24:34 Jesus says this generation shall not pass away He refers to the generation that witnesses the rebirth of national Israel. This in effect says that at least one person who was alive on 11/18/1948 will live to experience either the rapture or Jesus' return or both.
Jewish flesh has nothing to do with salvation. The Son of man said of his own flesh it profits for nothing. The refomation has come.

It is not a sign we are to seek after. No one knows the day, hour, year or century. But it is a sign of observing as it happens, the goal of the sign is the end of the corrupted world which God corrupted in the beginning..

The sign has been occurring, many have come in His name, saying, they are the Christ; and have been deceiving many. And we have been hearing of wars and rumors of wars: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. Some are hoping his coming and the end of the world are two events and not one twinkling of the eye event .

Just as in the day of Noah everything is going as normal then comes sudden destruction the end of the world the last day , the same day Christ comes to give us our new bodies establishing the new heavens and earth.

It’s an evil generation (the generation of Adam) natural man that does walk by sight seeking after sign before they will commit faith(belief) before they will believe. He has told us before it happens he will come as a thief in the night. We walk by faith and not by sight.
.
Again “this generation” is the generation of natural unconverted man the generation of Adam they will be here until the end of time when the Sun and Moon are no longer needed as time keepers and then the end will come as the generation of Christ ( the new creature) is given their new incorruptible body.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 1Th 5:1

Because we have been informed by faith that there is a God whom the world believes not(fools) whenever the sudden destruction comes we will not be surprised but changed into the new incorruptible.

The thief in the night and the end of the world will both happen in the twinkling of the eye.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2Peter 3:10

The day of the Lord, is the last day, the end of the generation of Adam the evil generation that do seek after a sign will pass away .

Not two different events with a thousand literal years between .But again in the twinkling of the eye all will receive the promise of their new incorruptible bodies..

I would offer. Its what we should be doing. Not something if we see a sign and then grow a beard..We are the ones that are not over taken as a thief in the night. We believe there is a God the first requirement needed to be on the watch.

I hope to reach a point in my life that if I knew that Jesus was coming tomorrow I wouldn't change a thing in my life and just live my last day the same way that I lived it yesterday.

Marc,

This is a commonly held interpretation, but it would be better to take the meaning of genea in that verse as "this nation", since it can mean race, family, or generation, and would be applicable to Jews.

Strong's Concordance
genea: race, family, generation
Original Word: γενεά, ᾶς, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: genea
Phonetic Spelling: (ghen-eh-ah')
Short Definition: a generation
Definition: a generation; if repeated twice or with another time word, practically indicates infinity of time.

γενεάν αὐτῆς, Josephus, Antiquities 5, 1, 5. the several ranks in a natural descent, the successive members of a genealogy: Matthew 1:17 (ἑβδόμῃγενεά οὗτος ἐστιν ἀπό τοῦ πρώτου, Philo, vit. Moys. i. § 2).
b. metaphorically, a race of men very like each other in endowments, pursuits, character; and especially in a bad sense a perverse race: Matthew 17:17; Mark 9:19; Luke 9:41; Luke 16:8; (Acts 2:40).

So what Jesus was saying (with the full knowledge that the Jews would be dispersed in 70 AD and would have no nation until 1948) is that the "race" or"family" of Israel would not pass way -- or be obliterated -- until all these things were fulfilled. Keeping in mind that Christendom believed for centuries that the Church had replaced Israel while the Muslims occupied Palestine. this is a more plausible interpretation. After 1948 people began to see that Israel would be a nation at the time of the second coming of Christ. And now it is evident.

It is interesting to see how some (not speaking of you) would smear all Dispensationalists with the same brush applied to the date-setters (who may or may not be Dispensationalists.). I read something about "hysterical Dispensationalists" on this thread. It goes to show how prone Christians are to put down those who do not hold to their views. Well to me it matters not, since Dispensationalism is the only hermeneutic system which does not ignore (or change the meaning of) large chunks of Scripture or deem them irrelevant.

seems to be a theme going on dispensationalists and with the intro of the word hyper

I guess it must be ok to talk about hyper-preterists or hyper-calvinists or hyper-mockers

no one wants to be left out  :p ;)

I tend to think that we, as saved believers, have already reached that point. If we have to "start living better" to be ready, isn't that saying we have to be "good enough" ?

We cannot BE good enough, by our actions and behavior. Jesus made us "good enough"....

Just my thoughts...

I am that I offended you, Angela, I felt that the thread was created in a malicious spirit to make fun of those who hold a more literal view of scripture.

I thought the OP was hilarious!

Look, if we cannot poke fun at ourselves, we are wound up WAY too tightly....

If you are one of those "wound up" folks, please, don't EVER watch any of Tim Hawkins' videos... you would likely have a meltdown... :D

At least Davida has seen the light, and has apologized for her wasp.png behavior... :)

LOLOL. I think I will make plans to go hog hunting in January of 2019. No fear of any of this going down. This is the type of nonsense that pops up when people refuse to allow scripture to define its own definition of revealed symbols.

mmmmmm.... pulled pork.....

I think your desire to mock brothers you feel are dumb and anti intellectual took away the fun you imagined the thread would be.
In my opinion you have become prideful over your reading of many books and your achievements in mans educational system. When you begin to talk down to a sister for her belief and call her anti intellectual, in my opinion you are ready to take a big fall.

So, after all the mocking I have received in this forum for literally years, because I have obeyed God and spent years in seminary studying the Bible, (which I have just reported and ignored the rude and hurtful comments,) suddenly, because I found something hilarious which really does mock many of the threads in this forum, which are based on poor exegetical and reading the Bible out of context, I am not allowed a little fun?

I am called prideful, arrogant because I point out the obvious? Seriously, you need to get a sense of humour, too! Eschatology is simply not that important, in the grand scheme of things, except that we do live in light of Jesus return!

This is what this "sister" wrote to me!

Jesus came and the wise and educated, the pharasies and scribes missed the signs of His fisrt coming. Is it surprising that they would miss them again?????
My degree is in accounting. I have no problem with intellectuals only with the pompous
So, after years of being put down and called names just because I have strived to show myself a worker approved, now, I am at fault for having a little fun?

Sheesh! Don't worry, I will continue with Scripture to show where people are wrong according to the Greek and English! And, sorry if I offended the anti intellectuals in the forum, who call people Pharisees just for studying the Bible! Or pompous, arrogant, prideful, etc. This isn't the first time I have been called names for stating my beliefs. i will discuss the Bible forever with people who are wllling, without calling names.

And for those who start name calling, be prepared to be seen as an anti-intellectual. Because an accounting degree is not a theology degree, not even basic hermeneutics or exegesis of the Bible! And I am tired of getting bashed because I know the Bible, by people who don't!

Besides, sometimes, in spite of humourless anti-intellectuals, a girl just has to have fun! LOL

True that the word rapture is not in the bible but the word harpazo is in 1 Thess 4:17.

I didn't see her mock you at all. I saw you doing the mocking, beginning with your first post and continuing when you said she had an anti intellectual attitude. I'm sorry you have been mocked for years. If I had seen it I would have stood up and said something. No man should be mocked or made to feel stupid.

The truth is that when the wise men appeared asking where was the Messiah, the whole region was in an uproar because they had no inkling, according to the scripture.

She had a valid point to say it wouldn't be odd for this to repeat.
