I talked to my ex-husband tonight since the first time since May of 2012. He said he was Catholic now and believes the old testament was nothing but made up stories to help us. I told Bob I will school him because if you do not believe the Old Testament then you do not know the first thing about Atonement or Y-shua. He quickly had to go, for real, even though he spent an hour before talking about old times. Why do people not like the Old Testament? It’s 66 Books... Why do people deny all 66 Books are the inerrant, infallible Word of G-d?

Because deep down they are full of UNBELIEF (and this is people who say they are Christians).

1. They do not really believe God.

2. They do not really believe that God gave each of those prophets the very words that they were to write.

3. They do not believe that Christ is on every page of the Old Testament.

4. They do not believe that the Gospel is actually in the pages of the Old Testament.

5. They do not believe that people can get saved by reading the Old Testament.

6. They do not believe that Christ viewed the Old Testament as the very words of God.

7. They do not believe that Jesus used the Old Testament as a weapon against Satan.

8. They do not believe that God has a plan for redeemed and restored Israel.

9. They do not believe that the primary objective of the Higher Critics was to attack, undermine, and destroy confidence and faith in the Old Testament.

10. They do not believe that the Law of Christ is rooted in the Ten Commandments.

So if people will deliberately choose to disbelieve God, there is nothing you can do for them. They must repent of their unbelief and turn away from their foolish notions about the Old Testament.

I love the Old Testament, well not the evil stuff of course like Lamentations, but about Joseph, and Creation, David's psalms. It's not that it's not liked, it's that we are not under it. But we need it in order to understand the New Testament. Cause how can you understand the spiritual without first understanding the physical?

I get what you are saying if the Exodus was just a story or atonement what hope would a "christian" have!?!

Let's face it. The OT is "not liked" by many Christians, and it is hated by the unbelieving and the ungodly. And when you say "We are not under it" what you should really say is that "We are not under the Old Covenant and the Law of Moses". But there is a great deal more to the OT than the Law of Moses. The fact that all the prophets have been grossly neglected has led to many false doctrines about the second coming of Christ and God's plan for a redeemed and restored Israel.

Even Lamentations has a lesson for us. God gave Israel multiple opportunities to repent of their sins and idolatry, but because they hardened their hearts. they were judged severely, and thus we have Lamentations describing how severely God judged His own people. When Christians do not repent and persist in their sins, God also deals with them severely, short of losing their salvation, which is a gift of God.

Well the Gospel is in the NT. So a newcomer I first would teach the Gospel anf then starting with themes like who is God ? Where i come from.? Thie themes I can give good answer from the 37 books of the OT. Without Jesus the OT seems for many people a hard stuff. Shows a god who kills cchildre. Without understanding the holyness of Hod and the destroying consequences of sin. Gods actionssin the OT is difficult to understand.

I'll be honest here...When I was first saved and started trying to read the Old Testament, it really troubled me. The incest, rape, murder and some of the other things I read in there really bothered me. I was so troubled, I had to talk to my mom and other older Christians about it. I just wanted to stop reading it all together...They told me to continue reading it and just remember that it was different back then. With much prayer, I continued reading it, and I actually learned a lot from it. It seemed to open up and I could get a better understanding of the NT as well as Spiritual lessons out of it. :)

If you believe that something is the inerrant word of God, then you must submit yourself to its authority.

If you are not ready to submit to its authority the only rational option is to challenge its authority; however wrong doing so may be.

Because the church has taught people to instantly equate the OT with WORK.

What, you don't like it when one of God's people cuts up a concubine and sends her pieces to all the divisions of God's people? We're still doing that today by the way.

Yes, the OT is very valuable for understanding seemingly unexplained things in the NT.

Yes, that was one of the main ones that bothered me...

I've learned that one has to pray and ask for Spiritual discernment when reading the OT...There are a lot of Spiritually discerned messages in there. I don't claim to know or have it all figured out, but we do have to open our spiritual eyes and ears:)

I'm puzzled. How do we justify fully accepting the warm and fuzzy OT promises we read about, yet reject the rest of the things that are distasteful to us?

Who doesn't like the OT? The entire bible points to Jesus and has so much wisdom in the pages I find the more I read the Word the more I get from the Word. What would I do without my Psalms and Proverbs?? How would I know that God has a specific plan for me without Jeremiah?? How could I know about courage and faith without Abraham and Esther and David? How would I know that we will one day run without tiring and fly as on wings of eagles without Isaiah?? Not to mention a tie for my favorite verse in Micah! Just stories?? The OT and the NT are the Word of God, no other writings can give so many different meanings with the same words. Hemmingway and Shakspeare and Louis L'Amour write "stories' and they do well at it but they do not even compare to the Word of God.:)

Well when I was first saved I was told to read the NT before the OT and I can easily why because God appears to be a very different person than we were taught and also the traditions and the way they did things back then in the OT doesn't sit well with people and so I think for some it's just easier to say it's not true.

The OT is a very remarkable part of the bible besides if one part of the bible is not true then who is to say the other part isn't?

Amen...The word of God is the Word of God and it's all true...We have to take the whole thing...but like you and others have said, I think it is best to start with the New Testament. :)

Very true. However, when people wish to discuss Bible prophecy but have no clue as to what is in the Old Testament, then they do themselves a great disservice while misleading those who may be new to to the faith. Also, those who believe that everything in the Law of Moses is null and void do not distinguish between what is moral and spiritual and what is ceremonial, civil, or criminal law. The Ten Commandments are the foundation of the Law of Christ (the Law of Love).

Our Lord taught many truths through parables. This is a good one for the occasion. "Matt. 13:52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old." There's only one way to get this treasure. You have to seek it where it's found.

It has always been that when He speaks words gracious to the ear, men marvel, but when He speaks hard things, they attempt to push Him over a cliff.

Perhaps he should speak with a Priest about this. I'm fairly certain Catholics believe in the old testament. lol :p
