I recently had a discussion with a self proclaimed atheist who was almost inviegle in sharing with me his "belief". He said the cessation of the brain means eternal oblivion because the brain is life. No brain no life.
I replied look at trees or any vegetation for that matter they live, grow, and communicate with no brain.
He ignored that point.
He went on and on but it made me wonder when did science suddenly become the anti-bible? Who would consider the endless void of eternal oblivion oppose to something more wonderful?
So, just for my own knowledge I am looking for science written within the bible. If anyone knows any passages that would help this cause than please let me know. Thank you.

Adam named all the animals, and was to tend the garden, which
would entail a detailed knowledge of plant life cycles and uses.
Knowledge of the natural world is the basis of science :)

Is that out of the lost books of Eden? I heard numerous times that if it wasn't for religion man kind would be much more technologically advance. I haven't read anything that condemns the growth of man through scientific endeavors have you?

since you are/were talking to an Atheist, you are fighting a losing battle. A lost cause! Believe me, I have tried in a Atheist chat room or two. They have been schooled on all the points and know what buttons to push no matter what your argument is or how you present it (i.e verses of scripture, history, scientific facts, etc.)

if you believe that, if you believe there is no hope for an atheist, then I wonder what you are reading for a Bible

I would like you to meet Paul. Paul hated Christians and was hell bent on killing 'em all

Then he met Jesus

He met Jesus and in fact Jesus introduced Himself to Paul

the rest is in the Bible and while you may say that Paul was not technically an atheist, he did disavow at least one person of the Godhead

maybe you should stay out of atheist chatrooms. deliberately entering a spiritual war zone like that is not for everyone

but if you think those are bad, you ought to try an ex-Christian chat room. not for the easily depressed

no it's not a lost cause until judgement day or someone takes the mark of the beast, only then is the cause lost for teaching about God's word to "Anyone".

it's not about condemnation,it's about taking the focus off God,see science and religion don't mix because both have a different take on life.

I cannot find how to edit a thread because I think the real question is when did science and religion start this never ending war but excellent point with existence contradictions

thx fizzy.

but I'm questioning this:

it's not about condemnation,it's about taking the focus off God,see science and religion don't mix because both have a different take on life.
I think science helps me to 'see' God

how do you see otherwise? (serious question but might not get back until tomorrow...long day and fading fast here :p

Just pitching in to the discussion is worth more than reps :)
You are @ 50 posts now and your reps are showing :)

You will get another rep power every time your Latest Reputation Received (xxxx point(s) total) number gets to a hundred mark, as well as at every thousandth post, and on every anniversary of your joining us here. A record of recent reps given and received can be seen on the Settings page; they fall away as new ones are added, unlike "Likes" of which there is a permanent record.

What I mentioned in my first post is from Genesis :)

The Bible states clearly that land and sea-dwelling creatures are
"living" and will "die", however it does not say that about vegetation.
Plants and trees aren't said to die, but rather to "wither".
My take is that living creatures contain spirit (life force)
and soul (consciousness), but vegetation only spirit.

To your point, I agree somewhat with your atheist acquaintance in that at
death, IMO, our body and soul cease to live, and our spirit returns to God.
We "sleep", as Christ put it.
Where we part ways is concerning "eternal oblivion".
God can make dead matter live, and on Judgment Day,
He will resurrect our body and soul incorruptible.

The war against God would seem to have started with Satan, who then brought it to the garden of Eden via the temptation of Eve, who was deceived by his lies, and Adam's direct disobedience to the command not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil caused the fall of the whole of creation.

Atheists generally do not accept any Scriptural take on things :)

They will be more likely to tell you that you are incapable of thinking for yourself while they tell you what to believe instead, saying you are brainwashed and have an imaginary friend :D I spoke with atheists online for eight ears before coming here :) They believe themselves to be more rational, logical, and sane than any believer, despite the fact that theists and Christians are in the ranks Nobel prize winning scientists. They also overlook the fact that they accept much on hearsay, simply because an atheistic scientist said it. Scientific theory is not iron clad. In fact, they redefine "nothing" to mean "something."

I agree with life force because that is what we truly are. A lightbulb is just a glass shell until energy imbides it. However, it seems like you agree with eternal oblivion which throws away spiritual knowledge in favor of an easier answer which is you are no longer matter, conscious thought but none existence.
