I am not a cessationist, and I find this thread quite offensive. In fact I find it quite offensive for any Christian to call a brother or sister mentally ill.

You do? I rather think it as a badge of HONOR! If ya think it's offensive now? As the "church" gathers? Just wait! Why, I've got more mental illness then Big Pharm has pills to alleviate the symptoms for! If I were you? I'd buy stock! Cuz I'm thinkin' about turning myself in!:cool::cool:

The day is coming and may be very close when the faithful will fall away from the Word of God. We have Christians insinuating that other Christians are mentally ill for believing the bible.

The unregenerate world has long deemed Christians mentally ill for believing the bible. What do we have to look forward to if those who are supposed to be of the same faith now accuse one another of being mentally ill?

Lu 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.

that's not what I said

you do yourself no favor by misinterpreting the fact that the behavior being exhibited is what causes the friction in the first place

the original thread mocked anyone who said they had heard from God in a literal sense...Angela had no trouble joining in and agreeing if people stated they heard from God...that is in an audible voice...then they most likely had mental issues

the idea behind this thread, is to illustrate how it sounds when the idea is presented from another angle

people do not seem to want to listen. IMO, most people react and do not listen and are happy to have a 'cause' even if they do not know what it is really about

I did see the original post...I don't always post a prayer, but many times I do pray. I pray when I see horrendous things going on in the world and part of that prayer is 'God have mercy'

maybe try to be someone who thinks for themself. your poster judged everyone here because of her emotional state

I am trying, I don't know why, to explain that there was no reason to tell everyone they are not behaving like she thinks they should

the entire thing is ridiculous and what is even more ridiculous, is the fact that another just as ridiculous arguement will come along and give opportunity for people to post against those they already do not care for and everyone will consider their work as a good Christian well done

I absolutely do care about praying for others, sad I am sitting here explaining it, but I do not care for the responses being made as though no one does in fact care

I am also aware of the fact that practically no one will even give pause to understand what I am saying

some of the posters in this thread, were quite happy to label all posters in another thread that said they had heard from God audibly (and by the way I have not, so that is not my gripe) as not quite right

the hypocrisy is over the top

So I am to be mocked, without so much as ine Bible verse supporting an "outside" the head voice? Dino countered with some interpretive issues in Acts 9, which I have not had time to look into. His tone was respectful, and certainly made me think.

To say nothing of me sharing when God did speak to me! But as usual, some bitter and angry people only walk away with twisting what I have said. When you have seen true psychosis, it is a scary thing! And, I have seen it in this forum!

But that doesn't mean all charismatics are mentally ill! Any more than all cessationists are! In fact, I would say the mentally ill are the exception in the BDF. Now the immature, that is another issue!

I do hope someone will post some verses supporting voices outside the head, in other words, audible, possibly heard by many, from the Bible. Or vice versa! Let's stop with the ridiculous personal attacks and slander!

I think the thread was just a satirical response to a thread yesterday, not directed to you personally. Personally, I detest when people throw around accusations of mental illness to describe other members of the body of Christ, on either side of the charismatic divide. I work with the mentally. Some are Christians, and sadly some are atheists because of what they have gone through with their mental illness.
As I recall, you were inclined to think that those who did hear the voice of God audibly might be mentally ill, so the second sentence of your posts surprises me a bit.

Is this thread satire? Maybe a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if some people who reject the contemporary operation of God's Spirit were mentally ill, if they were obstinant about it. There could be no correlation, statistically, too. Also, peoiple with mental illness need God, go to whatever kind of church they get involved in.

I do find it interesting that some people are so offended by this thread, but couldn't see that it was offensive to think that one who hears God's voice, even audibly, must be mentally ill. Some atheists think that way about the prophets and apostles, which is contrary to our faith.

this is supposed to be a Christian website. Not a site where people are mocked and bashed who don't agree with others doctrine. This place is to be for edification and uplifting one another up. Not to be insulted. No Christian should EVER do that. Whether I commented about the shooting or not the content of this thread is vile. This thread was obviously created to show contention. The content proves that. This didn't happen on accident.
Hi Elizabeth,

I'm sorry to hear about the shooting. I hadn't heard about it. I am not in the US right now, and I do not know much of what is happening with the national news.

I am not sure why you associate this thread with the shooting because I do not know the story. But I assure you, this thread had nothing to do with the shooting.

I'm an a hurry now, but one can look up the giving of the Ten Commandments, out loud, in Exodus, and audible voices heard in the time of Jesus:

'This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased'
'This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him.'
'I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.'

And just because the still, small voice was still and small doesn't mean it wasn't audible.
Samuel as a child in the opening of the book that bears his name, percieved an audible voice. He thought Eli was speaking to him.

Ya I was thinking about that thread and then a thought came to mind, God likes to use the weak and the ones who are looked down upon correct? so isn't that exactly why he would use the mentally ill so greatly?

Blain I gotta say I am not sure if your comment re mentally ill is a bit tongue in cheek? I might be double guessing the 2 threads playing off each other...so...

yes re the weak. who would have thought that death could raise all who believe to life

God does use the strong also, but shows them first they how weak they really are

a paradox that repeats itself as God has put it in motion

it is a beautiful thing to see

Youre very kind, but at what point did i state this thread had something to do with it? My point wasnseeing the attitudes of making light of things when we all do it yet shouldn't. I did derail your thread. For that I apologize. Life is just a little stressful.

No, of course not. I'm not a big believer in clinical psychology, and if I were one, I wouldn't be Freudian.

I got this 'crazy' idea from the post asking if people who heard the audible voice of God had had mental illness.

I figured that was what this was about....

prob both should be closed at this point
well neither will be closed if you or anyone keeps posting in the threads, you are always free to boycott a thread,or make your own thread on a subject, that's how often threads that are unwanted go from the main page and become zombie threads,so if it's a nuisance to you, boycott or report the threads, reporting said problem in one report where possible.

but what if one can't remember their loss of memory then what?
They would of have woken up on the last day and received their new incorruptible bodies that will be neither male nor female..

Isaiah 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former "shall not be remembered", nor come into mind.

After our last breath its universalize Alzheimer

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.Ecc 9:7

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;Ecc 12:1

Once the silver cord is cut off one can't remember their loss of memory.

How are these things related to each other?
I believe this is exactly the point that Presidente is making with this thread. Why would hearing the Voice of the Lord audibly be assumed to be connected to mental illness?

And why be offended concerning this thread but not the other?

I realize I left off the last line I had thought I'd included,
"I have not been diagnosed with mental illness, and I have not avoided diagnoses."

I was wondering why there were no responses. And maybe that's part of the reaction from some of the posters.

The question was a legit one, in that I wonder if some cessationists may have mental illness. If one rejects the operation of the work of the Spirit, the Spirit of power, love, and of a sound mind, that may not be good for mental soundness. I'd expect that to apply more to those who actually encounter the work of the Spirit and reject it than to those who merely hold to a theoretical position on something they do not have direct experience with.

I wouldn't say all mental illness comes form unbelief or somehow rejecting the Holy Spirit. I think some of it may be demonic in origin-- or rather than mental health professionals may diagnose those with demonic problems as mentally ill. But I would not say it all is necessarily demonic. In Matthew 4, Jesus healed a variety of ailments including those who had unclean spirits and those who were 'lunatick'. It's treated as two categories. (I am not completely sure if 'moon sickness' equates to mental illness, but that's how its translated in one version.)

As with physical illness, an illness can be the result of sin, or it could be there for reasons other than sin. Jesus said 'Go and sin no more lest a worse thing come upon thee' to one man, but of the man born blind, He said 'neither this man sinned nor his parents, that he should be born blind'.

That's a huge leap. The sons of the resurrection do not marry. That does not mean they are genderless. The Man Christ Jesus is the firstfruits of the resurrection.
