Jesus specified in John 15:14, "You are my friends if you do whatsoever I command you."

Opinions upon how many actual Commands exist from Jesus. His literally spoken ones number close to 50. Some dear Believers try to say with sober confidence in their Lord's Word there are just Two Commands, "Love The Lord Your God ... ," and "Love Your Neighbor As Yourself."

Regardless of the actual number, is there anyone alive today who can obey even one of Jesus' Commands unto perfection? Remember, Jesus never spoke of "trying to obey" His Commands. In fact, after Confession and supposed Repentance, one either does, or does not, actually obey. There is no such thing as "an acceptable attempt."

Jesus is a friend of sinners - Matt. 11:19

In John, the term "friend" is in both the Aramaic and Greek as "intimate, as those cared for from the womb. Have fun with that one!

I take it that there is an "intimacy" with Jesus if you keep your focus on walking in His directives. I will never be perfect, but His grace fills in the part I lack.

Y-shua said John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

According to Him, yes, I am His friends. Personally I think there may be times He likes me better than others.....

Friendship is a key relationship that needs to be established in a Christian Life. That is where we find our true identity . Friendship strips us from all titles such as father, mother, aunt , uncle, brother, sister, servant, slave, boss, ect. It is a equal playing field of individuals.
Friendship is not founded on blood relationship which leads to obligation, nor personal status like boss or employee. A official and private citizen.
A friend is compelled by genuine concern for the other. The bond usually is formed out of a likeness.
We are more apt to be ourself when in the company of friends. Confide in our friends more than anyone else.. also trust more.
It's a beautiful thing when the Lord calls us his friend.

Thank you for the rep saint and the kind words.

To be compelled to love and obey a person, deity, how ever you see the Lord. That you have never seen, never held, never touched is truly a work from God.. even on down to receiving a noogie from the one who loves you more than his own life.
How could you not want a friend like that:D

I went to pick up food, sad we eat dinner at 10pm...lol but I pondered this post as I was driving. I realized Y-shua said John 15 to the disciples before... before Peter denied Him 3 times, before they fall asleep while Y-shua was sweating drops of blood... I am His friend. We get to be like before the fall and walk together in the cool of the day. He tells me secret things like Abraham... What is man that He is even mindful of us.... How personal is He.? When He says cast all of your cares upon Me for I care for you, that is nit just a nice Scripture... For if I, in my own power and might will do anything, anything at all for a friend (granted I do not have many) How awesome, incredible is it to have G-d, the Master of the universe, as my friend!?!

"You are my friends if you do whatsoever I command you."

Since this statement is in the present tense, it has the force of:

You are my friends if you have a habit or lifestyle of obedience.

There is NOTHING here about temporary lapses or failings .

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

God called David his friend. We love him because he first loved us . We can deny him but he cannot deny himself His love for us.

He must increase we must decrease

The Word says we are much more than Jesus' friends, in fact we are made co heirs and brothers...

Romans 8:15-17 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
