I'm going to open a big can of worms!
I haven't read Genesis since I was young, so I probably really didn't catch this in my 9 year old brain.
Genesis 1:27,28,29 then the 6th day...then you have chapter 2:7,18,20-22
Why do you think it was written this way?
It sounds as if in chapter one God created man and woman at the same time.
Why does it repeat the creation of man and woman? I was always led to believe Eve was created sometime after Adam had been alone...like in Chapter 2

It's not a can of worms, and there are many Christians who have not really read or studied Genesis. So to answer your question, Genesis 1 is an overview, while Genesis 2 gives the details pertaining to mankind, and the first human pair. Many books have a Prologue, so you could take the first chapter as a prologue, but it is far more than that.

In the first chapter God gives us His overarching plan for humanity -- that human beings would be the highest of his creatures and would be made in the image and likeness of God. This was already an indication that one day God's children would be glorified and live and reign with Him. But many other things would happen in between which are not even hinted at in this chapter.

The importance of Genesis 1 cannot be overestimated. No human being was present at creation, therefore this is God's revelation to mankind, not just some stories and fables. God could have easily created the universe in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. But there was design behind six literal 24 hours days of creation, followed by one day of rest. Study the Ten Commandments to know why.

No need to have any theories.
Right. No need for theories. The theory of evolution and the Gap Theory have no merit. A person has to make a critical decision at the very beginning. That is to treat the Bible as Divine Revelation -- the very words of God (through men) -- or just another unreliable ancient book. And that will determine a person's eternal destiny. The important thing is to ignore the scholars and theologians and go straight to the "primary source".

Sadly, there are a few people who may come in and try to lay their rule of law down. It may get nasty, I pray you can overlook this. Just remember, if you get this wrong, You will not lose your salvation.

I believe chapter 1 was just an outline, Chapter 2 goes into greater detail. Much like what God did in prophesy say like in Dan 2 vs Dan 7.

Post 7, Since I can not seem to quote it,

Can you explain how Adam and Eve being (farmers) created on Day 8 after man was created on day 7 coincides with the rest of scripture?

There was the 6th-day creation.

God rested on the 7th day.

Adam & Eve were 8th-day creations.

I really don't understand this at all, could you explain.

I'm quite certain that, whatever you say, everyone will be polite and agreeable.

This is why I said can of worms Dino! Of course I believe in God's creation in 6 days. My old woman brain thought Chapter 1 was an outline but no one ever really confirmed it. Share the popcorn? I'll make milkshakes!

Wow. I've heard the 6-day creation was literal, and I've heard the 6-day creation was figurative. But I've never heard that the 6-day creation was 8 days.

This is new.

Interesting, so there are now 8 days in a week? Genesis 1:31 clearly shows and concludes man was created on the 6th day.
