I am currently on my 4th time through Holman's. HCSB. I read NASB for about 25 years, till it fell apart. I've read the ESV a number of times, I find it stilted and follows the errors of the KJV too often. I've never read the KJV straight through! Too much convoluted translating and obscure words for me. I do know many memory verses in KJV, from my Baptist Sunday School days, long, long ago! I've also read the Message, which I liked at some points and disliked intensely at other points. But, the Message should only be read when you know a more linear, word for word version well.
I've also read NIV, NLT and I am waiting for the 2nd edition of the NET Bible, with full notes to come out in December. That will be my go-to Bible for the next while. I've also read the Bible in French, the NT in Biblical Greek and parts of the OT in Hebrew. I am also starting to read the Bible in German, I'm taking a second year German college course, so I can read German theology in the original language.
