Default What's your favorite bible translation version?

I've fallen in love with the NLT because it's very easy to me to read and understand. Some other translations can give me headaches.

My church likes ESV, before that I think they used NIV.

I like the King James because of its literary beauty. I also use the ESV, The Complete Jewish Bible, and the original language texts in both OT and NT. For the NT I use both the TR and the 'Majority Text'.

    Col 3:16-17
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

I like TS2009, The Chronological Gospels and original manuscripts
Mt5:18, "I say to you; Unless heaven and earth passes away, one yodh; the smallest of the letters will in no way pass from the Law, until all things are perfected."

Rev21:1-2, "I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away."

Rom3:28, "For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the Law."

Rom3:31, "Are we then doing away with the Law through the faith? By no means! Rather, we establish the Law!"

The only english bible I own is the King James Bible. So that is my absolute favorite far above all in the english.
In finnish I read a 1933 Holy Bible translation by the Lutheran Church. I got it as a gift when I got saved.

    Regarding English:

NIV is the winner, well balanced between literal and dynamic translation

Sometimes complemented by ESV, NASB or Berean Literal Bible, when NIV reading is strange.
Do not be worried about many things - only one thing is needed (Lk 10:41-42).

I use the TLV (Tree of Life Version) it is clear, easy to understand as well as consistent with the oldest manuscripts available and substitutes "God" in most cases with the names used in manuscripts. Not to mention it uses specific Hebraic words to give clarity in reference to specific peoples, places and items(Yeshua, Yisrael, Torah)

I don't really have a favourite - I've used the KJV for years.

For accuracy I prefer Young's Literal.

My favorite is the one I read.

Actually, I like reading about 6 in a parallel fashion.

I loved the NAS when I read it. Then I loved the KJV when I read it Then I loved the NIV when I read it. Then I loved the ESV when I read it. Many others were my favorite when I read them. How to pick a favorite?! They all had something to offer.

It was like looking at a diamond with many facets. What I discovered was that Jesus is present in each one and caused certain things to be highlighted that I missed in the others.

But if I HAD to pick a favorite, it would be different for specific verses.

I am currently on my 4th time through Holman's. HCSB. I read NASB for about 25 years, till it fell apart. I've read the ESV a number of times, I find it stilted and follows the errors of the KJV too often. I've never read the KJV straight through! Too much convoluted translating and obscure words for me. I do know many memory verses in KJV, from my Baptist Sunday School days, long, long ago! I've also read the Message, which I liked at some points and disliked intensely at other points. But, the Message should only be read when you know a more linear, word for word version well.

I've also read NIV, NLT and I am waiting for the 2nd edition of the NET Bible, with full notes to come out in December. That will be my go-to Bible for the next while. I've also read the Bible in French, the NT in Biblical Greek and parts of the OT in Hebrew. I am also starting to read the Bible in German, I'm taking a second year German college course, so I can read German theology in the original language.
"And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me." 2 Cor. 12:9 NASB

Over the years I feel like Joidevivre said., The one I'm reading is the one liked the best. But these days I'm sort of settling in and camping on New American Standard and the Amplified. But because we were raised on the KJV I go to that for memorization and finding verses in the Strong's Concordance.

Also enjoy browsing on Bible Gateway and seeing what the Phillips translation has got to say. And there are sooo many other Bibles I never even heard of that can be accessed at Bible Gateway. We are very blessed to have so many places to go and read the Bible and hear the Bible.

I would be interested in a study whether reading of a specific version leads people to specific theology or whether a specific theology leads people to use a specific version.

I thought that ESV is used in reformed churches (John McArthur made commentary for it, I think).
