Hi

At this moment I'm a non church goer!!
I decided a few days ago to download a
Bible App, which up to know I've not
been able to put down, I suppose I should
of started at the beginning, but I didn't. In
the last three days I've read Luke (was this
strange place to start?) some of it went
above my head so to speak.

nahhhh the NT (matthew and after)

isnt a bad place to start

what matters is now youre seeking God through His word

keep at it

and the order doesnt really matter too much unless God tells you otherwise

welcome to cc

and i hope God uses this place as a blessing to you andy

Welcome to CC! If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior I would urge you to do so. Once you do you will be able to understand His Word much better. Looking forward to hearing about your journey!

Both very bad for a beginner, IMHO. She needs to understand the message, not to crack the middle ages English or very literal translation like NASB.

NIV should be a good start.

There are so many versions but the one you read and enjoy is the best one for you. God spoke all there is into being and He is able to keep His message pure through many different translations.

I disagree King james version is quite acceptable to read,me and my whole family church understand most all in that version even my young cousins that are only about 5-7 years old.

Hello, Andy, welcome to CC! I hope you find your time with us fruitful :)

Starting with the gospels is an excellent way to begin reading the Bible.
However, you would likely find Genesis equally enthralling :D I do :)
The epistles are also very helpful for understanding Christ's work.
Listening to teachers is another way to grow in understanding.
One of my favorites for recommending to others is Dr, John Neufeld.
You can find some of his teachings here: https://www.backtothebible.ca/messages/

i wont argue

kjv is the easiest for me to understand but i know others who feel different

its just nice to see someone our new members age take the time now to treat this as seriously as it should be treated

it was such a dramatic change in my early 20s

i couldnt imagine having the revelation in my 40s....

much respect brother (to you andy.... very impressive, praise God for leading you to the truth)

Hi Andy, very big welcome to you! That is great how you have started studying God's Word for yourself. This is how I first started as well well not with a PC app but with a bible. Here are some promises in God's Word to get you started......

Some conditional promises........

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Isaiah 55:6-7
6, Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7, Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Jeremiah 29:13
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart

Pray to God to be your teacher because only he can teach you His Word and only trust the Word of God for truth.......

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John 7:17,
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.May God bless you as you seek him through His Word...

Welcome. You're on a great site.

Luke is a great place to start. Most Bible apps have a compare tab. Download the versions that are recommended here and compare the readability of the text. Select the one that best fits your ability to read.

You will know when you are ready. The fact that you are aware that something essential is missing is a good realization. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
