Acts 2----------
The Day of Pentecost had come. The Holy Spirit had filled the church with power and authority to preach the Gospel.
They went out and began to preach a message that was very different than what was perceived as truth.
In verse 6 we are told that the multitude were confused because they heard the Gospel in their own language.
In verse 7 we are told that the multitudes were amazed and marveled that simple Galileans were able to do such an amazing thing. These Galileans probably lacked the elegance of speech that Rabbis and other accepted teachers possessed and were perceived as being unlearned.
In verses 12 and 13 we are told that while some were amazed and perplexed and questioned how this could be, others simply mocked them.

Many times people fail to listen to those who lack the gift of elegant speech or those who present a teaching that is different that the accepted truth, or even question some of that accepted truth.
Some go so far as to mock them. They are labeled as lacking proper study, having not yet had the truth revealed to them, and sometimes labeled as just ignorant and should be ignored.

Just maybe we should not be so quick to dismiss what others say that questions or challenges what is acceptable truth.
As Christians, we certainly should not mock or place labels on them.

mmmmm

if you are sort of leaning towards how some treat others in the BDF, about the only thing that works, is do not take things personally and if it is a truly abusive person, or you just cannot take how they 'act' or write, then put them on ignore

it may take some transitioning, because this forum is not as moderated as some are...at times that it a good thing and at others, maybe not so much

we have to moderate ourselves and sometimes that is taken to mean 'anything' goes

I've personally left and come back because of these things but truly, have learned that just ignoring some is best, but say what you want without calling names etc. there are some here I would boot off in a heartbeat...and they prob feel the same way about me LOL!

I understand what you are saying but it will help you to understand that there are a small group of people who came on with an attitude of they are right, at all times (especially when they are wrong) and the rest of us are not even saved

so, buckle up, stay yourself and just don't take the nasties to heart and let them rob your peace

a big reason I do like this particular forum, is that it moves along at a good clip, plenty of active members and there are plenty of people to get to know better if one is so inclined :)

Paul told the Corinthian church to be "enlarged" which means to be open to learning and instruction......without a doubt there are solid, factual truths that are known and not to be embellished and or changed....as well as deep truths that can be gleaned and known thru much study and acceptance!

God is by no means limited in any way and so any kind of person who has the arrogance to dismiss or label a person because of a lacking in elegant or sophisticated speech or labels a person uneducated may very well find themselves humbled found unqualified by the very ones they labeled as such

That is exactly what they thought (that the Galileans lacked the elegance of speech). check out Acts 4:13:

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Correct. Mocking, deriding and name calling other Christians is not acceptable. But whatever is said (or left unsaid) must be examined in the light of Scripture. If it is true it is true. If it is false, however, then we have a duty, and a moral and spiritual obligation to point out spiritual error. We need to be careful to separate false notions from the people who hold them, and not attack the person but what he or she is putting forth.

It is because error has not been confronted within churches that so much false doctrine is being promoted. But the sad truth is that those who are off the rails have no interest or desire to get back on track. Instead, they dig themselves deeper into their erroneous pits. We see this all the time on Christian forums, but it is generally true in the spiritual realm.

I've always understood it to mean that the crowd was astonished for 10-12 different represented nations of people, each with their own language, ALL heard the gospel message in their own tongue.... and they were hearing all these different dialects from guys that were all from Galilee....

It would be similar to taking 20 or 30 Watusi tribesmen, and having them give a lesson, and people from the US, Germany, Italy, France, Mexico, etc.... all hearing it in their own native tongue....

"What? Aren't all these men Watusi's? How come we all understand them in our own tongue?"

That kind of thing....

Also, the way I understand it, anyone from Galilee was sort of universally considered to be the uneducated "rednecks" of the middle east....which made it even more astonishing.
