I have stated this before and it is denied, rejected, swept aside by any and all who embrace some sort of law keeping or works based gospel....The words of JESUS must be interpreted in light of the fact that he was born, lived and died under the LAW which ratified the NEW Covenant.....He also said he had many things to say, but the disciples were not yet ready<---THE words of PAUL which deals with both the purpose of the LAW and HOW GRACE applies now......!

when we Love our Saviour so much, we just want to find any way we can
to express to Him our thankfulness - we each must pray to find our own special way to do this...
and pray for all others the same...

We all know that Jesus preached to the Jews while Paul preached to the Gentiles. I feel that Jesus brought the Law to its full expression just to show the Jews that no one can be saved by keeping it.

Here are some evidences that some of Jesus’ teachings were for the Jews only:

Matthew 5:20
For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:23
"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, …

Luke 12:33
Sell your possessions and give to the poor”.

Matthew 19:16
Jesus said to the young rich man: “If you want to enter life, keep the commandments”. Then: “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor”. Jesus added: “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

I know that Christians in the first century did sell possessions and shared the money with those in need, but they didn’t do that in an attempt to keep any law – they were just being guided by the Holy Spirit. We Christians are not required to sell our possessions and give alms, but Jesus taught that as a commandment to the Jews.

Most of us, in Christian Chat, are relatively rich. So, if all of Jesus’ teachings are for Christians, practically no one in here will be saved.

Many of the principles that Jesus taught are everlasting, but I feel that some are not.

Again, my question is: Which of Jesus’ teachings were applicable only to the Jews?
The Words of Jesus where for everyone,, Not just for the Jews..

Jesus came to the Jews to preach the Gospel, and the New Testament, and He only referred to the Old Testament because they were still under the Old Testament, but His main goal was for them to accept Him,which is the Gospel, which John prepared the way for Jesus to get the nation of Israel ready for His arrival.

John was preaching Jesus before He started His ministry,so surely Jesus would of preached the acceptance of Him to the Jews, which is the Gospel.

Mar 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
Mar 1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Mar 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Mar 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Mar 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
Mar 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

None of the teachings were only applicable to the Jews, for it is the Gospel that is for the whole world.Jesus might tell them to do something according to the Old Testament for they were still under the Old Testament, but they were to accept Him,the Gospel. That is all Jesus came to do is preach the Gospel.

Always try to keep in mind that the Gospel of Jesus Christ and teh promises were first given to Abraham; ergo Jesus tells us by faith we are children of Abraham with the faith of Abraham.

The people who understood before Jesus came to collect us all together were aware of this.

Jesus Cleanses a Leper

1 When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

Was this teaching (in red) applicable only to the Jews (while Jesus was on earth) or does it apply to all Christians?

We know there is no human (or levitical) priesthood now and since Yahshua is High Priest now should we not pay homage to Him for anythign He does for us?

Mat 24:35, “Heaven and earth may pass away, but My teachings will not pass away.”

So, "show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded" was applicable only to the Jews. What applies to Christians is "show yourself to Jesus and pay homage to Him".

Firstly for me if the Jews could keep the law then in the OT there would have been no need for sacrificial system in place that only covered sin.

Secondly whilst on earth when Jesus talks about the law he talks about the true intent of the law and what it means and how it should work out.

Thirdly Jesus makes it quiet clear that in order to be saved is the following.

John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 6:28-29

28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

John 14:6

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

and Paul reiterates this

Romans 10:9-13
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

just my simple thoughts

I agree

with special regards to the bold type above, we find the same thought in the OT, where David says

6Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—but my ears you have opened[SUP]c[/SUP]burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.

7Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—it is written about me in the scroll.

8I desire to do your will, my God;your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40

most view this Psalm as a prophetic psalm

again, I cannot stress enough the need to study the entire Bible and stop dividing it into only 2 parts while stating part 1 is now obsolete..although to be sure, some love to back and claim the promises of Abraham while denying any acknowledgement of the OT as for our day, other than the blessings...EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF WHICH WAS CONTINGENT UPON THE PART OF THE HUMAN BEING RESPONDING

the intent has been the same from Genesis to Revelation

God wants our hearts...He desires to fellowship with us

Seven Seas, God knows I was not being ironic when I said "thanks for your input". My big mistake was to ask "Have you already sold your possessions and given the money to the poor?" instead of "do you know any Christian who has sold his possessions and given the money to the poor?"

I really beg your pardon.
no problem

I'm sorry that I read it wrong then...

you know, I can't really say what I personally have done, as that is between myself and God

how about people giving God everything they are? that is what God actually desires and we see this through the entire Old and New Testaments

remember, the rich young man went away sad because he could not give up his weatlh

that is the point...not everyone should go and sell all. be sold out to Jesus

i love the verses quoted along with the following

Psalms 51:15-17
15 O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.

In Genesis, Abraham prophesied all you mention when he was about to give up his son, hisonly son, becaue of his faith in Godd.

I mention his faith in God because Abraham was aware that he was to be blessed with nations descending himself thrugh Isaac, therefore he believe eventhough God had asked him t offer up his son, his only son, God would raise him again to fulfille the promises he had received.

At this time, upon beingquestion by Isaac as to the whereabouts of the sacrifice, his Father replied that God would supply himself, a lamb for the offering. This is written so and not in error just because when the Angel of the Lord stopped Abraham from killing Isaac, Abraham spied a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. He promptly offered up the ram..not an error.

God did provide Himself a sacrifice for the offering.

Now Jesus did foretell His crucifixion to Jew, namely to His disciples. It is certain He foretold all necessary for them to believe..

Can you give an example where Jesus preached the gospel of His death, burial and resurrection to the Jews?

John 2:18-22

18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”
19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”
21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body. 22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

John 10:17-18

17 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”

Matthew 27:62-64
Pilate Sets a Guard
62 On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.”

hope that helps

What was the disciples going around preaching to the Jews that was forbidden to the Gentiles and Samaritans?

Matthew 10
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

This is the same gospel Jesus preached earlier.
Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Jesus Clears the Temple Courts

13When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

16To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

18The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”

19Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”

20They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

John 2

and some people still don't get it.

I reject that the teachings of Jesus had some only for Jews. Keep in mind that Jesus was in Israel surrounded by Jews and Jesus was a Jew. Therefore he made statements concerning the religious Jews. That doesn't mean they are not applicable to everyone when put into the context of the time and place it took place and how it applies to today. People haven't changed only the customs in that time and place. You go down a very slippery slope by slicing and dicing scripture to have portions only for selected people.
