What do you estimate the percentage is of adult Christians that regularly attend church, pay tithes knowing that the tithe is 10% of their wages and giving is what God lays on their heart to give??

I would imagine that only Jews operating under Mosaic law would be paying the tithes....

We as Christians are to give as we purpose in our hearts....

Question in the OP sounds like a set-up to convict all of us for falling short of some arbitrary standard.

...I for one am absolutely SHOCKED something like that would happen here at CC. Shocked I tell you!

I'm doing nothing of the sort.

A good friend of mine pays tithes and I don't. I just wondered which was the more common in todays churches. There's nothing wrong with that.

Wonder how many Christians realize that tithing in the OT is comparable to citizens paying taxes to the government which rules over them.

And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's. Gen 47:26

Wow, Pharaoh even had priests...

My husband and I tithe and give. To our church and to various ministries that preach the gospel, take care of children, etc.

I don't believe in the tithe! But, my husband does, so I have always honoured his wishes in this. AND God has blessed us, materially, spiritually, our family, and in every way. BUT, we do not tithe to get. We do not give to get. If God took everything away, we would be ok with that, too!

I am reading Job again, he is my best buddy! Right now, much needed since my knee is in terrible pain and barely working. It gives me such comfort to know God does not change and in the end, everything works out. And I do not mean I get everything back, but rather, my eyes are fixed on Jesus, and our eternal destiny with him.

"He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return there. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. May the name of the Lord be blessed!” Job 1:21 NET

Here is one of the best articles I have read on this issue:

The Tithe is Illegal

However, the tithe being illegal, or not required, does not mean we should not give in abundance!

I'm so sorry about your knee Angela.

I was just reading some things in Job myself as well as commentary on it

we can be so misunderstood to others as was Job and yet God does hold the final answer

basically the commentary was saying that the end result, being the faithfulness of Job, is God's answer or 'proof' of what He said to satan

that's a very condensed version of the thoughts on the commentator, but we do not get to understand everything in this world or why we through what we do, either emotionally, physically or spiritually

Job is a great book

Instead of guessing, I would suggest you start by looking for actual statistics.

Christians are accused of making far too many "guesses" and "assumptions"... and I think this is often an accurate criticism.

And I'm sure these stats are out there somewhere...
after all, it's about money.

Now, once you find these statistics,
it's a whole separate issues to decide what relevance they have.

Do not take this out of context because this applies to me also. If you set your alarm clock to get up and go to work, and don't set it to get up and go to church on Sunday, mammon (money) is your master. The spirit of mammon will make a person get up on time, shower and groom, put on nice clothes, and arrive on time at work. When Sunday morning comes...excuses - excuses - excuses! Jesus says mammon is your master and you don't really trust me. Open your bible and read Luke 16.

Satan will do everything within his power to discourage the Believer, to try to get him to throw the Cross aside. This is why Believers do not go to Church. Satan will give them a million excuses not to go and fellowship and worship with true Christ Disciples in Church because they will be delivered. When a Believer doesn't tithe and make God first, all they are now doing is saying religious things out their mouth. This is called double-mindedness. They have left their First Love. They are unstable in all their ways. Do not trust and believe anything they say. They receive nothing from the Lord. They are fleshly and worldly minded people that promote the Kingdom of darkness. Sin is jumping all over them. The demon of double-mindedness and the demon of leviathan (pride) are operating in their life and flesh of this Believer who is living with a voided Cross in their daily walk. These demons will mix truth and a lie together. Satan has done everything within Hell's power to hide the real problem from this Believer, which is sin.

What's church got to do with it? There are a lot of people who go to church who do not necessarily put God first.

I'm not sure what part you don't want us to take "out of context", but I find that opening rather wry, given that you have clearly taken the entire concept of tithing out of its biblical context.

Mammon has nothing to do with what time I get up. Church begins two and a half hours later than work. I don't need an alarm to get up in time for church. What silly reasoning!

As to tithing, you've fallen for the religious belief that you are still under the Law of Moses. You have fallen for the mixture of truth and lies. You've tried to mix grace and law; read Galatians to see what Paul's view on that is. I hope at least that those receiving the fruits, vegetables, and animals at your church are genuine Levites... otherwise you're even tithing unbiblically!

It all up to you Miker! All up to you! If ya feel like "pitchin' in?" Pitch in. If you don't? Then don't. No big thing! If the people who go there don't like it?

On the other hand, if the people are pressuring you to pony up your 10%? Or, if the Preacher is preachin' on how they needs more money for that new addition, er something, and keeps looking directly at YOU?

Generally, when I attend a service, I'll put something in. Ain't no 10% though.

Of course, you mean the tithe as the church understands it, not as it was done in the old covenant.

I'd say about 1% of church goers tithe according to how the church presently teaches it.

Tithing certainly doesn't negate God's promise to give back to those who give.

I think a tithe of your income is a good benchmark for giving in this New Covenant.
