‘ALL THAT I HAVE IS YOURS’

[HR][/HR]
After running a few errands for his parents, a little boy went to his father and said, “I know why you and mummy had me.” “Why?” asked his father. “So that you guys would have someone to run errands for you!” exclaimed the boy.

Like the little boy, do you see God as a Father who demands obedience and service from you? Have you ever felt that unless you obey Him and keep all His commandments, you don’t have a right to be blessed by Him?

Jesus shared the story of the prodigal son to show how some of us call God “Father” and yet don’t know His heart. There are two sons in this parable. We know what happened to the prodigal son, but we can also learn something about the older son. This is what he said to his father when he discovered that his father had thrown a party to celebrate the return of his irresponsible, spendthrift brother: “Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.” (Luke 15:29)

Now, this son believed that his father had brought him into the world to serve him. He saw his father as someone issuing commandments to him all the time. And he saw himself as someone who had to obey those commandments to enjoy his inheritance. But the truth is that the father had already given him his inheritance. (Luke 15:12) The father even reminded him lovingly: “Son…all that I have is yours.” And I am sure that that inheritance included more than one goat!

Have you, like the older son, failed to understand your Father’s heart? Your heavenly Father already gave you a rich inheritance in Christ when you became His son. He wants you to know that you have received the Spirit of sonship. (Romans 8:15) So call out to Him, “Abba, Father!” and know how much He loves you. Because you are His heir, all that He has is yours to enjoy today!

There is much more to God the Father than we were first taught in our church back some 35yrs ago. We didn't learn much about the Holy Spirit and what Acts 1:8 meant.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth"

There is much more to our inheritance but if we are never taught about it., we won't know. Our church taught only what we could see and never taught us about the things we couldn't see. It took a major life changing event for me learn more about what my heavenly Father had for me in Christ.

I was a lot like the prodigal son later in life but before that I was much like the elder son. I hope this devotional blesses someone who doesn't know how much the Father loves them.

Still all me centered. What I get out of God, not who God is or what he deserves.

This is about a choice. You can stay like the eldest son and be depleted as your name indicates. Or you can learn more about what the Father is about and be blessed and be all but depleted. It's up to you. If you want to pass on the learning that is up to you.

It's about how much He loves you and has given you in Christ. But if you don't want it., don't go for it. I went for it and have been abundantly blessed and have not stopped learning about what Jesus has done ever since. There is more to learn than when we first believed. There are promises that I've only just begun to know about. I have a lot of years to catch up on since choosing to not pass on learning more about my salvation and it's become my determined purpose to keep on learning about the power of His resurrection.

The Bible says in Philippians 3:10-11
[SUP]
10 [/SUP][For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [[SUP][a][/SUP]which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]
[SUP]
11 [/SUP]That if possible I may attain to the [[SUP][b][/SUP]spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body].

Luke 15

8
Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

The elder Son depleted? He needed reminding that he was loyal and never lost.. then surely He shared the joy of His Father for the returning lost but now found Brother..

The angels of GOD rejoice when a sinner repent.

There is a elder son mentality that prevails in Christendom that I have learned to stay away from. I've discovered the Lord wants me to go to Him for ALLLLL my needs and ALLLLL my desires. Not only that., He gives me new desires and teaches me confidence in Him to be the Good Shepherd that He is for me personally and for me to pray for Him to be the Good Shepherd of those I love and learn to care about too because He is the One who teaches how to do that.

We all have needs in this life and I've learned Jesus is the One I have to go to for all of them. Unless I go to Jesus for all my needs., I won't find how much He will fully take care of me. He showed me this when I first lost everything and everyone in my life. I had no other place to go but to Him. And He came through in supernatural ways every time.

Now this may not be for everyone here on CC. Some would prefer to stay like the elder son and believe God the Father is a harsh taskmaster who wants to take instead of give so we can learn how to give back. I can't learn how to give unless I learn how much He gave to me.

I've discovered the truth of what the Bible says in 1 John 4:10
[SUP]10 [/SUP]In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins.

I've learned it's not about how much I love God but it's about how much God loves me. That is where it begins.
The more we learn about His love for us., the more we will enter into His rest.

All my life I understood about serving God - and always felt as if I never quite measured up. Yet, kept trying. That was good.

But one day I read the simple words of Jesus "What do you want me to do for you?" he said to the blind man - Mark 10:51. I saw Jesus as not only needing to be served, but as a servant to all. He even demonstrated that in washing feet. He still serves us today. What an eye opener that was. I had to learn how to receive.

Now in prayer, I not only pray, but stay awhile and receive His ministering, thoughts and presence in a new way. I let Him know what He can do for me, yet accepting what He gives or withholds.

I now acknowledge the promises in scripture as mine through Jesus, but give thanks for them, and receive them in the form and timing He wishes to bring them to me.

Mostly, I had to learn to receive from people when they offered help, finally realizing that by refusing them, I was blocking one of the ways in which Jesus serves me.

You know even if we the creation received our due reward for our sin...Heavenly Father is Just always.. but He is longsuffering and Merciful that He prepared our Redemption through His Beloved Son.. So that we can be forgiven and Reconciled to Him. We have nothing to offer so He gave us our offering.. Love and Grattitude is all we have to give..

No., the eldest son was angry when his father loved the younger son so much that he forgave and reinstated the younger son. And not only that., the father gave the younger son honor when he deserved discipline and punishment. The elder son was angry at such mercy and grace. Why? Because the elder son didn't know his own father.

The elder son actually totally missed the heart of the father because the elder son was too set in his own opinions and his own ways of looking at life and others. Especially his father.

So many equate to GOD on their terms.. the young son returned knowing it was better to be like the elder brother who was loyal to His Father.

GOD loves us so much now let us love the Father in return having learned from our wandering in darkness that we Love GOD who is the Father of Lights.

Well you and I are the younger son.. and the elder never left.. Father reminded Him of this. We know we are not the only creation.. and I consider the elder Son represents those that remained loyal and never left their estate.. let us consider more the son that returns.. the angels have joy when one sinner repents.. sounds like all is well.

Amen and so true. God blesses us so we can be a blessing to others. But what if we don't go and learn how to take from others? We won't learn to get blessed in the ways He has for us to be blessed., or how we can serve and bless others or allow them to serve and bless us. How can we ever learn?

I must admit I have a hard time learning how to receive from others when they offer. I was majorly hurt and let down by many people in life who were key in my development. But that is a problem He is working on with me. And it is a major problem that needs correcting but He is very gracious. Am in process.. lol

I'm glad you have learned how to receive from others Joidevive and been blessed in even more ways than you even imagined or first believed. There is so much more to learn than we first heard.

No., the elder son was just as far away from the father as the younger. Both didn't know the father's heart and both had to learn more about their father. The elder son looked better on the outside but his heart attitude was wrong since he had no idea how his father could let the younger son back after he squandered his inheritance. The elder son didn't know his own dad.

He didn't know his father would have welcomed him to have a fatted calf for him and his friends anytime. But the elder son missed out on many blessings that were his based on his lack of understanding how gracious his father was.

The elder son needed to learn grace and mercy just as the younger son did.

Hi Joanie

Thank you for posting this. I never saw that before about the elder son serving his father. I can see too it's a picture of Israel, the nation, versus Israel of the Spirit.

To be under the law is serving God. No intimacy. Jesus is the head of the house of God...the body. And we His members. So what we have is Jesus who freed us from serving to be one with Him as He moves (leads).

Holy Spirit told me that to believe God is what He desires. He doesn't lie. His words are truth, and they are life. Spiritual power resides in His Words as we speak them in faith. Not by our will, but by His.

Blessings to you Joanie. Love you.

Just goes to show that people read the story of the prodigal son as if it's about the son and not the Father. This is about how much the father loves the sons. How ready He is to forgive and give grace and help in time of need.
How the younger son figured if he came back he could get in with the servants and be treated better than he was out in the world. Little did that son know how much the father had for him all along. Little did either son know how much the father wished to give them and be for them. Both saw the father as harsh when the father was nothing of the sort.

I see this in my own life and seek to change my views of my heavenly Father. Not to be a prodigal son or an elder son. Jesus has made a way for us to go right to the Father without worry or fear. Yet how many times have I stopped short and turned back thinking I didn't deserve this kind of love and grace? Many times. But not any more. In Christ I can go to Him freely and without shame.

Luke 15 contains parables.. I have never needed to make a big thought about the elder son until today.. if you read all leading up to the prodigal Son.. you see much more of the one being lost and found as the sinner that repents and there being celebrations for the 1....

You can delve in and consider the elder brothers anger.. but I learn more from the young son and all he did and how His Father forgave and rejoiced at his return.. just as the lady that rejoices over the found penny and how the 1 sheep is found and restored.

For me I’m the young son returning through Faith in Christ.. the 1 found penny and the one sheep being found.. to start worrying about the elder brother who remained loyal is obviously for prince and for him to make a daily devotion to support his message.

You say it is about the Father then go on to say it is about what both sons can get from the Father.. so I’m not sure if this is a prosperity type speech?

Rather than about what the elder son has achieved as if by his own merit, I believe the parable is about two kinds of inheritance in the kingdom of Heaven; the celestial kind and the terrestrial kind.

The celestial one is where the elect are chosen to attend the Marriage Supper for abiding in His words as His disciples. They are raptured to have that place in the city of God; in our Father's House where there are many mansions. John 14:1-3 The celestial one where the elder son is always with the Father & all that is His was his as well.

The prodigal son is the one that gave up his inheritance ( the celestial one ) for wild living and was left behind; disqualified from attending the Marriage Supper and thus a castaway to be received later on as a vessel unto dishonor in His House.

The difference between the elder son and the prodigal son is that the prodigal son is not always with the Father; hence no place to call Home in the city of God, but they will have the name of their God on their forehead as well as the name of the city of God when they serve the King of kings out in the world in raising up the generations coming out of the millennium reign of Christ.

The prodigal son can never get that inheritance back, but he is still son. This is where and how the vessels unto dishonor in His House comes from as they as the prodigal son will testify to the power of God in salvation for all those that believe in His name. That is why those who break ONE OF THE LEAST OF HIS COMMANDMENTS AND TEACH OTHERS SO are called least in the kingdom of Heaven as they will have a glorified terrestrial inheritance where they are more human than celestial, but as they are physical, the second death has no power over them; those saints who come out of the great tribulation.

Whereas those that are have been made worthy and kept worthy by the Lord Jesus Christ, even those who repent seventy times seven....looking unto His mercy as they place their hope in Him to continually deliver them and keep them from their sins, will not marry nor given in marriage but be like the angels that never die.

But those of the terrestrial could die for the reason why the power of the second death has no sway over them, but on the generations coming out of the millennium reign, that power of the physical death and the second death will have sway over them when Satan has been released from the pit after a thousand years for a small season to lead some astray in staging a last rebellion against the Lord Jesus Christ at Jerusalem.

So the prodigal son aka the vessels unto dishonor will be celebrated in the House of the Lord and the elder sons that had obeyed His commandments by believing in Jesus Christ, not just as their Saviour that they are saved simply for believing in Him, but believing in Him as their Good Shepherd to help them to follow Him as His disciples in testifying of the Son in seeking His glory and by Him the glory of God the Father and none other.

That is what it means to believe the gospel as these two commandments is required for us to abide in following Him.

1 John 3:[SUP]22 [/SUP]And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.[SUP] 23 [/SUP]And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.[SUP] 24 [/SUP]And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

So all those commandments of the New Testament as under the New Covenant falls under to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Good Shepherd to help us to follow Him since we could not save ourselves and thus by grace thru faith in Him we are saved, then neither can we follow Him except by grace thru faith in Him as our Good Shepherd.

Luke 9:[SUP]22 [/SUP]Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.[SUP]23 [/SUP]And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

So obeying the gospel is believing in Him not just as our Saviour, but as our Good Shepherd that He will help us to follow Him by the grace of God as well.

Not every one will trust the Lord as their Good Shepherd nor look to Him for hope in His mercy to deliver them from their sins, but even if they err from the truth and stop believing in Him, He still abides in them which is why the call is given out to every believer and former believer that has His seal to depart from iniquity so that they may be received as vessels unto honor in His House to the Marriage Supper at the pre trib rapture event.
