What is the proper way to preach/teach grace/unmerited mercy?

Here is my view;

If preaching grace is done in a way that say there is no need to obey, it is licentiousness.

Jude 1:4, “For there are certain men who have secretly crept in, who were before of old ordained for this condemnation, unholy men, who turn the undeserved pardon of our One Supreme Savior YHWH into licentiousness, and deny Yahshua our Messiah.”

Jeremiah 7:9-11, “Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, vow falsely, burn incense to Baal, follow hinder gods you know nothing of, And then come and stand before Me in this House upon which My Name is called, and say; We are saved! Saved to do all these abominations? Has this House, which is called with My Name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen this! says YHWH.

Romans 2:4, “Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, and tolerance, and patience, not knowing that the kindness of YHWH leads you to repentance?”

If preaching grace is done in a way that says we should now be obedient Yah, it is right.

Romans 3:28, "For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the Law.”

Romans 3:31, "Are we then doing away with the Law* through the faith? By no means! Rather, we establish the Law*!"

Romans, “6:1-2, "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin* that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?"

*What is sin, that we may not continue in it?

1 John 3:4, "Whoever commits sin, transgresses also the Law; for sin is the transgression of the Law."

Romans 2:4, “Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, and tolerance, and patience, not knowing that the kindness of YHWH leads you to repentance?”

To state the necessity of obedience is to turn salvation from a free gift into a wage due (Romans 4:4). However, if we state that obedience is the appropriate response, the least we could do, or our reasonable service (Romans 12:1), we agree with scripture. These things we ought to do. Obedience then is not a requirement, nor is it not a requirement, in the sense that it is to be avoided. Rather, obedience is us walking as we received Christ. By faith (Colossians 2:6).

We do not set up the Law of Moses before our eyes and say to the children of God, "Do." No, this is fleshly, this is not the righteousness that is by faith. It is God who sanctifies us, who chastises us and molds us. He has equipped us, by making us new creations. He would have us reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive unto God (symbolized in baptism). We do not see the standard, the bar, and leap. We submit to the lordship of God, humbly, and allow Him to carry us to new heights. This means that you may not be happy at your current standing, it may even grieve your spirit, but know that He is faithful to finish the good work that He has started.

Yes, we resist temptation as we approach the throne of grace in time of need. We go to the Lord, pray for the escape. We obey the Lord if we so desire to walk the path He has set. Not all have done this. That is their decision. They do not stand condemned, yet they have robbed themselves. Let us not rob our future in eternity either, as we obey and get rewards by the graciousness of God and sovereignty, having prepared good works beforehand. We walk in what He has already planned. So, yes, obey for your sake and the sake of others. It is our reasonable service.

You left off the proper choice.
Once one receives unmerited grace, one should strive to be obedient.

We preach by how we live and how we really treat others, what's in a mans heart will come out , no matter how hard one might try to hide it. as far as apologetics, well that's fairly simple, just start reading from Genesis and soon it will be clearly illustrated in the biblical text.

Christians are no longer under the condemnation of the consequences of ignoring God's laws, but the entire world, us included, will always be subject to the results of either obeying God's laws or not. God's laws were given to show people under the old covenant how to live for the best results. People under the new covenant are still under the same "cause & effect" rewards or consequences in life... as is the whole world.

Agree with Yonah. Every time I forgive, I am giving grace. Every time I put someone first, I am giving grace.

I could preach and preach and give scripture over and over again, but people need to see grace in action. We are the ones who put flesh to it.

[FONT=&quot]If grace is obtained by faith, it is no longer of grace since faith can not set a person free from the bondage of sin. It is only by grace one is sanctified whereby they can come to the knowledge of the truth.

Once receiving unmerited mercy/grace obedience is to be striven for and desired but it is not requiored to maintain ones salvation.. Salvation is maintained by continuing to believe Jesus and strust in the Atonement He secured for your salvation..

it 100 percent IS a requirement though ben is the thing .... the obedient will be saved, those who refuse to repent will not its really not avoidable in scripture

romans 2 "But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6Who will render to every man according to his deeds:7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11For there is no respect of persons with God."

this is not a random teaching by paul its from beginning to end of the Bible. noahs salvation was a gift also of Gods grace genesis 6...but Noahs belief and obedience were required. ots no different for us. Salvation comes with a demand upon the recipient. you arent saved to go on living for yourself, you are saved to start Living for God. there will sadly be none who refuse to repent and obey God being saved in the end. those who have faith and walk in it they will.

its not an " optional" thing to repent of sin and obey God its not something we do if we get around to it or when we feel like it .....people who have olearned the gog should really look at Gods character and look at what has happened from beginning to end when people didnt take His word to be as serious as Life and death...a;ways ends in death and destruction. never fails and its 100 percent a requirement when One accepts Jesus death, you cant then reject His word.

Amen Ben. It is actually scary for some Christians to lean totally and 100% on the grace of God IN Christ. And it's just as scary for some Christians to preach or hear the preaching of the total leaning of our whole entire being on the grace of God IN Christ.

But we know the Holy Spirit teaches believers through the very avenue of grace. Yet some will deny and frustrate the grace of God in Christ to their own detriment. Titus 2:11-15

[SUP]11 [/SUP]For the grace of God [SUP][a][/SUP]hath appeared, bringing salvation to all men,

[SUP]12 [/SUP]instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present [SUP][b][/SUP]world;

[SUP]13 [/SUP]looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory [SUP][c][/SUP]of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

[SUP]14 [/SUP]who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.
[SUP]
15 [/SUP]These things speak and exhort and reprove with all [SUP][d][/SUP]authority. Let no man despise thee.

We know that an understanding of the unmerited undeserved love and favor of God IN Jesus Christ is our ONLY standing before God for righteousness and all things that pertain to life and Godliness. The grace of God IN Christ is what gives us understanding to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Grace teaches how to walk accordingly. Without the understanding of His unmerited unearned love and favor these truths needed for life and Godliness cannot come to pass in our lives. So those who have had a real revelation of God's grace will grow spiritually and will find favor and help in time of need because they know from where their help and comfort come., In Christ and Him alone.

But at the same time the human need to DO to GET is so great even some Christians have a major difficult time hearing the preaching of grace the way Paul preached it. If they understood they would not fear a life of sin because they would understand by the witness of the Holy Spirit that the power of sin was broken at the cross.
Romans 8:2
[SUP]
2 [/SUP]For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.

That we are now under a new covenant of grace and not law. The law went out and grace came in. We trust the Holy Spirit now to be our teacher and we are learning and go forward and also are constrained by the love of God IN Christ without fear because His perfect love taught and understood will cast out all fear.

Alleluia thank You Jesus for making us part of the beloved. The bride of Christ has no need to be forced to kiss her Groom. She lives to do that and more.

Thank you Willie-T.

Nice bullock.
You got many like this in your golden calf?

Christians are no longer under the condemnation of the consequences of ignoring God's laws, but the entire world, us included, will always be subject to the results of either obeying God's laws or not. God's laws were given to show people under the old covenant how to live for the best results. People under the new covenant are still under the same "cause & effect" rewards or consequences in life... as is the whole world.
So, we are the same as the Atheists, but with no bad consequences like they are going to get when breaking the law.

That sounds so comforting.
I'm off to check with Jesus now, to see if I can follow you.

And this is the condemnation,
that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light,
because their deeds were evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light,
lest his deeds should be reproved.

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light,
that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

John 3:19-21

So, the light is come in the world.
What is the light?
Better look that up. Ah, here it is.
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light;
and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Proverbs 6:23
Yes, the law is come into the world.
Ah, but men love darkness, rather that God's law,
because their deeds are evil.
And everyone that does evil avoids the law, because it reproves them.

So, now we have, combining your truth with Jesus' truth,
the evil Christians who ignore the law, which is the light from God, will avoid the condemnation.

Let's see if Jesus makes that exception.

He that does truth comes the light.
Nah, that verse doesn't do it.
Those Christians are still happy ignoring the law.
They aren't coming to the light, so they couldn't be doing truth.

Actually, Willie-T, I've changed my mind now.
I don't think I want the freedom to be evil, and love darkness.
Keeping the law isn't that much of a burden for me.

Bless Jesus.
Keep all His commandments
Paul

GOD gives us the grace through faith ,If we have the faith of a grain of a mustard seed HE Is strong where we are weak.
We have to choose to believe and GOD does the rest.It's In every human being to know that there Is a GOD.

I thank every one so far for their replies, this is an interesting discussion IMO and whever one stands I just want to show in the Word that guarding His Laws/Commandments is not wrong, as these guard the Commands and have faith in Yahshua/Jesus;

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Revelation 12:17, “And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to fight with the remnant of her seed, those guarding the commands of Yah and possessing the witness of [/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, serif]יהושע [/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Messiah."[/FONT]

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Revelation 14:12-13, “Here is the endurance of the set-apart ones, here are those guarding the commands of [/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, serif]יהוה [/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, serif]and the belief of [/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, serif]יהושע[/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, serif]. And I heard a voice out of the heaven saying to me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Master from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, in order that they rest from their labors, and their works follow with them.”[/FONT]

What is the proper way to preach/teach grace/unmerited mercy?

Exactly as instructed by the Lord Jesus Christ. When you harmonize Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15,16, and Luke 24:46,47, you find:

1. The Gospel of Grace must be preached -- preach the Gospel to every creature

2. Repentance must be preached -- repentance and remission of sins should be preached

3. Believer's baptism must be preached -- baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

4. Obedience to all Christ's commandments must be preached -- make disciples ("teach" = make disciples)...teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you

Obedience then is not a requirement, nor is it not a requirement, in the sense that it is to be avoided. Rather, obedience is us walking as we received Christ. By faith (Colossians 2:6).
Since the Bible speaks of those who "obey not the Gospel" and suffer eternal damnation, the Gospel is essentially a command -- BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND THOU SHALT BE SAVED (Acts 16:31). Repentance is also a command (Acta 17:30).

Christians should not confuse God's gracious offer of eternal life as a free gift to those who obey the Gospel, with the fact that God's imperatives are God's commands. And while justification is by grace through faith, sanctification is by obedience to Christ and the Holy Spirit. To love others is a commandment.

No one says that. But when Paul taught salvation through the grace of God he was accused of licentiousness by people like you who did not understand the grace of God. (Rom 6.1)

Actually you are totally misrepresenting what is stated in Romans 6:1, and why. It is BECAUSE of the Gospel of Grace that some within the churches (the Gnostics particularly) took the attitude that they could do whatever they pleased. They became Antinomians. And it is in response to that false teaching that Paul says: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

So your remark about "people like you" calls for an apology. Grace does not mean licentiousness, rather Scripture makes it plain that grace demands that we like soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world (Titus 2:11,12).
