Satan gets into any kind of institution over time. Money, public opinion, laws, and who sits on the "board" in institutions are opportunities for him to enter. Good seems less likely to want to purge and witch-hunt the institution than evil is to want to infiltrate it.

Satan has long been in the church. Look at Paul having to deal with a church that was allowing incest to go on among two of their congregation.
But I think it's important to remember that part of spiritual growth is growth and error. As humans we look at a person's spiritual walk for where they are now and seeing that as defining them. In reality it is just one of many seasons of growth.
While it is important to keep in mind we have an enemy we also have to be careful not to demonize too many things either. Keeping a healthy balance of the two, and trying to view things in a broader perspective can help.
