Faith tells us that Jesus is the correct one to follow. by faith we Know. the thing with faith is, sometimes there is no visable evidence, you have to believe the word even when you dont see it manifest with your physical eyes. its about faith in Gods Word above the rest, that convices me that Jesus is the right one to follow. because its everything His word says, believers believe and , im a believer.

Faith is Like when you look up and the clouds are so thick they have dimmed the light and things look dark. Faith tells us, that the sun is still shining bright and warm, even though we can only see the clouds and rain. its an illusion like the world. we have to hold to the truth of what Jesus said, even when the world is crashing around us, even when evil looks like it won, we Have faith in Gods Word, and His faithfulness to bring it to pass.

i personally think denominations are a work of the devil to divide the church and create division among the Body. it shows each time no agreement was found a group split and taught different doctrines, different details , one denomination says " this applies" another says " no that doesnt apply this other thing from the same word of God applies......its not a design of God to have denominations within the body.

I have read the Bible over 50 times, and read it in French, the NT in Greek and some of the OT in Hebrew. I have used many translations, but never the KJV. Can't understand it at all! Too many obscure words and antiquated grammar. Plus, whenever anyone comes onto CC with some really bad doctrine, it always comes out of the wrong interpretations of the KJV. Of course, you could make bad doctrine out of any version, but it seems to be much easier to do it with KJV.

I have attended charismatic/Pentecostal churches the first 15 years after I was saved. Woke up one day and saw shallowness, and lack of character development. Walked away, into an Evangelical Free. Then tried Alliance (after a move!) finally ended up in a Southern Baptist Church. I feel that Baptists best represent what I have read in the Bible. But, the SBC had some major things I disagreed with, went to a North American Baptist church. Another move, and now in a Baptists of Western Canada. I do agree with the doctrines and distinctives, and I love our church. But we called a new pastor and he told me privately he is into Open Theism. I knew something was wrong with his preaching! But, I have prayed, and God told me to stay and be involved, which I am.

Our relationship with Jesus Christ is what matters in the long run, not what church we attend. If we are being fed and growing in Christ, then that is a good church! I think God moves us when he knows it is time for us to move forward. Or, if the individual church is really walking with God as a body, it may be possible to stay in a church a long time.

We do need to move to maturity and be transformed in character. And God is the one who is teaching us, and the preaching and teaching of a church is part, but not all of that. God is really laying on my heart, the importance of moving on to maturity and also obeying Christ, and finding out our purpose, and what he personally wants us to do. God never wants us to sit back in a church we like, and warm the pews. If the church is not encouraging us to grow, no amount of correct doctrine is going to help us be transformed.

Walk with the Holy Spirit, be faithful to read and study the Bible, always pray, and seek to be of use to God. I guess that is something we all need to do, no matter which denomination we attend.

PS. I have learned so much from my brothers and sisters on CC. I have totally changed my soteriology because of the faithful witness of people here. God is good!
"And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me." 2 Cor. 12:9 NASB

In the Bible Discussion Forum certain members won't say what denomination is right but will be very quick to tell you which ones are wrong. There is also a certain bias against the KJV bible. Actually I prefer the NKJV but the KJV is good too. Not sure what this third-heaven is that your referring to is. Glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

Since this is the direction going, lets admit that we could not possibly be right as Jesus is our righteousness and having admitted this coming to Him for help we can't change now: It would be taking things in our hands again. Suppose, the discussion was, how do you know you and your church are wrong: Coming to Jesus to learn of Him in humility ("Not think more highly of ourselves than we should, but to think soberly according as every man has been given the measure of faith,") and meekness (tamed by God as friends, not to take things in our hands again), that we may have rest for our souls.

If the denomination hasn't been created 'directly' by Jesus himself, it is probably rife with man's translation and distortions on things. And each denomination has a different version of belief. Yet zero denominations put love as the godhead. So first you have Jesus, full of love, unconditional love, and then you get the organisation of truth by men, most often by people who are more about love of power (or being the-right-one, every other is an abomination), than the power of love (we all worship the same God, we all acknowledge the son of God, every human is equal under God).

If you want to know Jesus, if you want to know God, don't let anyone tell you how it is. You are on your own personal path, except, every denomination wants you on their team, to grow their numbers, more so than to grow your love for yourself and other human beings, in the image of God, and in the likeness of Jesus. Even if it means not having a denomination or church.

Once you sign up for anything, like a belief system (man made, mind made, mind of man made), you then have to point the finger at the enemy according to them.

If you don't know what I mean, observe the balance between talk of love and talk of fear. More often it weighs towards fear. Even when people brutally stand by their own belief system, such actions are fear based, not love based.

    Willie,

That remark was uncalled for since there are plenty of Christians here, and all over the world for whom the King James Bible is in fact the Word of God in English. And it has been so for at least the 300 years from 1611 to 1911. So the OP is perfectly correct in making the KJB the standard.

As to the OP, denominations have no scriptural basis. So the better question would be what are your Bible-based beliefs? In the end if there is no support for a belief from Scripture, then it must be discarded. At the very least the Five Solas should be the primary beliefs of all Christians (other than Catholics).

    Acts 9:2
2 and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

Be mindful not to be contradicting, the belief the KJB is the only standard is not found in the Bible anywhere either.

Well masonian the most important thing to keep in mind is does (whatever denomination you choose) teach the "ESSENTIALS" of the Christian faith. Now, I could list what the essentials are but I would rather have you look it up. Another thing I always make a point of doing is reading the "Statement of Faith" that the Church puts out. It should list the "essentials" but be very careful of their words because some times they can get tricky and sound real "Orthodox." Orthodox means "right belief."

For instance the Oneness Pentecostals will tell you in their statement faith there is one God, and that is absolutly true. However, once you start digging into their teachings you will discover that to them Jesus Christ is God the Father. Or take for example the denomination of the "Church of Christ." When I first became a Christian (and did not know very much) I attended a Church of Christ denomination and I like the people there. Until I heard the Pastor teach you have to be water baptized to be saved and I left the church because that is not what the Bible teaches.

The bottom line is to do your homework and God will eventually lead you to a Church of your liking. I personall attend Calvary Chapel churches and the only disagreement I have with them is their teaching on the so-called rapture. This means they are pre-tribulationist, "BUT" keep in mind whatever position you take on when Jesus Christ returns this is "NOT AN ESSENTIAL TEACHING" of the Christian church which prevents me from worshipping with them.

Lastly, regarding you comment on using the KJB I have a question for you? If a Pastor was using a NIV, or NASB (which I personally use) would you leave that church? On the other hand I will tell you this? If a Pastor was using a KJB but was faithful to the "ESSENTIALS" of the Christian faith I would not leave the church. The type of Bible one uses is not an essential of the Christian faith unless of course one was teaching out of New World Translation of the Bible, then I would run and not walk to the nearest exit because you are now in the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Welcome to the forums.

    IN GOD THE SON,

What determines a true church......first I will say that the Corinthian assembly had some 15 errors and yet made the bible as a true New Testament Church.....

My view......what they teach about the following will identify a valid church or not...

    a. Jesus
    b. Salvation
    c. Baptism
    d. What a church is
    e. God

If the root is corrupt the whole tree will be corrupt.

Of course it would not be found in the Bible. What would be found in the Bible is that the Word of God -- all Scripture -- is given by inspiration of God and is therefore profitable for all things pertaining to doctrine and practice (2 Tim 3:16,17).

The inspired writings were copied and recopied by hand until the invention of printing. And it was after that, and during the Reformation, that the Reformation Bible came into existence. They were based on the traditional Hebrew and Greek texts. Although there were several language language translations the KJB excelled and became the leading, and finally the only English Bible used for 300 years. And during that time, millions were saved through the preaching from that Bible. And today, those who have thoroughly investigated the matter (such as the Trinitarian Bible Society) are full convinced that there is no replacement for this Bible (although there are a few updated versions).

Well, one member here told me about two years ago that he had learned all he needed to know by the time he was 18, and that he had not changed his mind about anything since then. He is in his 40s now. (Yes, kind of frightening.)

Well in all honesty no one church or denomination has it all right or has everything as the correct belief, denominations are simply a division to separate the church based on their beliefs.
I don't belong to any denomination not even the non denomination because that in itself is a type of denomination it kind contradicts itself really.
I just know that I am a Christian and a child of God anything more than that is not needed

Ask the pastor if he commits sin.
If he says "yes", you know he is not of God.
If he says "no", ask him to explain 1 John 1:8.
A pastor who doesn't sin will have been given the answer to that question by God.

The church is Christ's body, and there is no sin in Christ.
