Never heard of the doctrine of Cessationism? Not Biblical. So what are you talking about? Not something Paul said "these are the doctrines we hold true"...

Just curious what the fuss is... never heard of it....

Cessationism is just a name given to the doctrine (belief system) that says the spiritual gifts (miracles, healings, tongues, prophecy, etc) have ceased/stopped.

Is it a real doctrine?
If by "real" you mean that people actually believe and/or teach it...yes.

If by "real" you mean that the bible actually teaches it... that's what the debate is all about.

Some people believe ALL spiritual gifts have ceased... others say that only SOME gifts have ceased while some gifts remain...others say that all spiritual gifts are still in operation.

Very well explained!

I think that is not correct. Stopped has not the spiritual gifts. So far I understand only the signgifts as they was used in the early church ceased. ( healing, miracles, speaking on tongues and prophecie)

I was only attempting to explain what the word "cessationism' means ...and was hoping to avoid sharing my own beliefs on the matter in this particular thread. However, I'd be open to discussing it further in the "Cessationism" thread by JairCrawford.

Yes that is right.

The problem is that the leadership gifts are mixed in with the other gift and they are all for the building up of the body, I Corinthians 14:26 “What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.”

All the gifts are given,
“to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

The other problem is that they use a Scripture speaking of Jesus' return and the regeneration of all things. I Corinthians 13:8-10
“Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

Notice when that which is perfect has come, what we know in part we will fully know. The perfect is Jesus, knowing all prophesies fully is what Daniel was talking about in 9:24

“Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.”

Here is how the CEV translates Daniel 9:24 “God has decided that for seventy weeks, your people and your holy city must suffer as the price of their sins. Then evil will disappear, and justice will rule forever; the visions and words of the prophets will come true, and a most holy place will be dedicated.”

Like Paul said, what is known in part now, will be fully known and Daniel says that all visions and words of the prophets will come true or be fully known.

Since this has not happened all the gifts are still for the building up of the body. The problem is that 99% of what is being portrayed as the gifts are man made fakes. People teaching people to speak in tongues, to be prophets, others claiming to be super apostles and what they do does not build up the body. It is a bunch of flesh going wild, which does not build up the body of Christ.

To those of you who believe that some or all of the spiritual gifts are not for today, how is it that you pray for Divine healing? For this is a gift of healing. How is it that you pray for illumination upon a problem, or guidance from God? For this is a word of wisdom. How is it that you pray for ministers of the Gospel to receive the Holy Spirit's anointing? and for Satan's power to be lifted off people? and for people to be blessed? For these are the operations of the gift of faith. How is it that you pray for material needs to be met? For this is the province of the working of miracles. How is it that you pray for a revelation of God to the soul? For this is a discerning of spirits. How is it that you pray for an inspired utterance from God to help others? For this is the realm of prophecy. How is it that you pray for the Holy Spirit to inspire you in prayer? and then reject the gift of tongues, which is the Divine answer to this request. It is a fact that Christians who say that spiritual gifts have ceased to operate in the Church, actually pray for their manifestation. Those of you who reject spiritual gifts completely, have in reality tried to remove God's influence from His Church, and put it in the hands of men. We must accept that God has decreed that we need these gifts, and not frustrate the wise and loving reasons for their manifestation. Acts 2v16-21,38,39.
