Hebrews
12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
We don't often think of the DIY spirit as being sinful, but when we get to thinking that we can just make ourselves into big hotshots for God, it just might be.
Often, I get to acting like I can just get on spiritual steroids, pump myself up a full head of steam, and go full out for God. This doesn't exactly fit my doctrinal beliefs, but I still find myself trying to do it. It is humbling when I at last realize that Paul tells me to just lay aside all the big barbells and dumbbells and let God fill my little tank with the steam of the Holy Spirit.
Stop being a dumbbell and let God fill your sails.
