200,000 0r so denominations, each 100% certain they that they know the truth, and will fight nip and tuck, to hold on to their belief. Make a man or woman a leader in the church, short of killing their family, they will hold on to that building and the leader no matter what.
so how does one get their beliefs, number one would be training. If you listen to the same message week in and week out, you will start believing it, even if its wrong. Just look to Hillary, and the Donald. 50/50
but what happens if you have no training. well maybe you meet some one, they invite you to church, your at a low place in your life. you attend, the people much like the movie deliverance gather round and make you feel so special. You become enamored of all the attention. Nobody has ever given you the time of day , and now you are surrounded by people who adore you. And now your in!!
Another way to be a believer, is to actually have a visit from Jesus!!! He touches you, or speaks to you, and a small light of hope, begins to burn inside of you. You realize without anyone around, that God and Jesus are real. they aren't characters in a book. they are REAL. your heart erupts with joy. you dance you sing, for you know now that you are not alone.
So why do you believe how you believe, and if you disagree, with your fellow CC member doesn't that make you also a Heretic.
200,000 denominations and they are all right, or maybe they are all wrong, after all there is only one TRUTH!! his name is JESUS

anyways since you went through so much effort I'll answer as simply as I can...
I believe wholly in God/Jesus/Holy spirit, and God's word, not from what others think it wasn't from what I learned or what denomination I was apart of,it was from what I felt, what I witnessed, and things I couldn't explain that made up my decision to accept Jesus as saviour be baptized and serve God/Jesus forever, and the more I go on my path the more I am shown that my choice was the right path to choose.

Lol no just was stating that you could,"be more clear" instead of sounding like a run on sentence if you desire an answer,I learned that fast here, you may see what you said as "simple" while typing but if it looks so disorganized it may confuse others what you are trying to say.

Hi Brother maverick! I sure know what you mean here;

"Another way to be a believer, is to actually have a visit from Jesus!!! He touches you, or speaks to you, and a small light of hope, begins to burn inside of you. You realize without anyone around, that God and Jesus are real. they aren't characters in a book. they are REAL. your heart erupts with joy. you dance you sing, for you know now that you are not alone."

AMEN!! That is exactly what happens. We start to read the Bible in and through the Holy Spirit and get the witness and know HE is here right with us loving us and ministering to us the truth of Jesus. John 7:38 comes alive..... He who believes in Me (who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on ME) as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow (continuously) springs and rivers of living water.

People don't get it and even some get annoyed at your enthusiasm and say to "stop it since we already know all this stuff". But we can't let that stop us from sharing our joy in the Lord. His mercies are NEW every morning. We certainly have enough in the world to be bothered about but when we believe by grace through faith., we have the Holy Spirit ministering newness to our spirits telling us because of JESUS we are the sons of God. It's much greater than a football game and some people are painting themselves and jumping up and down and they are more than tolerated.

So keep dancing and rejoicing brother!! HE IS WORTHY TO BE PRAISED!!

I've been a member of various protestant churches during my lifetime--Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, an independent Christian Church, and now a Congregational Church. Earlier in my life I belonged to churches because of others. Baptist was my parents' church. I married a Presbyterian woman. We moved and chose to become Methodist because we agreed with their beliefs. I moved again and began going to an independent Christian Church. I liked their format a lot but as I learned more about their beliefs, I just wasn't sure about some things. After some research I joined a Congregational Church, which is where I am now. The Congregational Church I attend is bible based. Every sermon includes several bible verses that we are given to read. They serve as the basis for the message.

I sometimes wonder if I'd been born into a Catholic family whether I would still be Catholic. There are a lot of people I know who are Catholic for that very reason. But I guess the same can be said of Baptists, Quakers, Seventh Day Advents, or any other denomination.

There are quite a few members here who were born into and/or raised in RC families, who do not count them selves as belonging to the RCC :)

Is this a typo? 30K+ is the number usually bandied about, but even that may be an error, since the method of counting is not understood.

Not exactly that's more an atheist or scientific point of view, where or what you are born into doesn't make up your spiritual relationship with God,it's about what each person "individually" believes is right deep down, not what you are taught or forced to endure, like in my case,I was born into a so called baptist family, but I didn't believe wholly in and upon God/Jesus until a few years ago, don't second guess yourself, after all it's not about "how" you came to God that matters,it's about that "you did come to God".

Why I believe in The Son is because The Father opened my eyes.

Why I believe as a Presbyterian is because I can see my church is modeled after Scripture.

I think the way denominations are counted doesn't mean that there is that many different Christian belief systems. Like the Southern Baptist are no different to Missionary Baptist except for one being more focused on missions, the PCA and OPC were just founded in different regions, and some consider Mormons as a denomination of Christianity, it depends on who's counting and what they make out of the number.

This question has come up before. The short answer is because it matches the church that Christ established with His blood. But the long answer would include how our beliefs and practices specifically match the Bible- which is hard to put together on a little phone. It’s still a work in progress. Maybe when I’m done with it this question will come up again. I’ll at least be prepared to give a full answer that I can then just copy and paste when it’s finished.

You are correct, but even that should be more like 30, not 30,000. These numbers are generally pulled out of thin air, and generally presented by Roman Catholics to show how terrible it was to depart from Mother Church.

As to WHY DO YOU BELIEVE WHAT YOU BELIEVE, the short answer is "Because it is in the Bible".

Once someone comes to the understanding that the Bible is the Word of God, what to believe becomes rather simple.
