How about the lost come to us because they have grown an appetite for our fruit, got thirsty because of our salt and are attracted by our light and undone because of our love?

I keep reading this, such a deep thought and true on many levels.Certainly we have let down our standards, have failed in our mission. But as for salt, the church doesn't want to hear that these days. They want to hear God is love and not judgment.Which isn't true.People don't want to be convicted.

I see it both ways. There are some modern worship songs that sound ok, but are full of false doctrine. I also believe some of the old hymns are as bad and some are even worse than modern worship songs that are correct in doctrine. Many of the Old hymns are great though.

I don't know, most of the old hymns were full of sound doctrine. Those that weren't are few and far between. There are worship songs I like, like Above All. But it seems the majority are just empty repeating of words over and over.

They get convicted with worldly sorrow. Salt is cleanser and antiseptic. The church is caught in the trap of consumer mindset treating the symptoms, and ignoring the cure.

One song that I truly truly love that isn't old time Gospel or a Hymnal is by Third Day, and it's Cry Out To Jesus, everytime I hear that song, I get tears in my eyes and my heart soars with it. It's a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics, and it reaches out to those with struggles and even to the lost.

The article is great and William Booth's vision inspired many great hymns including Rescue the Perishing.

I share your love of the old hymns; but many of them require a good deal more effort than the modern hymns and people are generally not willing to make much effort at anything any more [ with notable exceptions of course].

One of my favorites is Great God of Wonders; but it, like many of John Newton's hymns requires considerable effort.

May God restore this flavor in our churches. Oh that we might weep over lost souls and beg them through tear filled eyes to come to Jesus.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
Oh Jesus we pray for that.
May we be the people you called us to be.
May they see the love that you have for them through us.
May we love the broken hearted, the marginalised, the hurting.
May we love each other, look after the wounded.

John 13:34-35
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

You must spread some reputation before giving it again.

There is always a cause for the effect.
Jesus doesn't just want to deal with the symptoms, put a sticky plaster on us, he wants to heal the the wounds
Dig out the poison.

Jesus is the lover of our souls.
