I get what you mean, but so long as God/Jesus is focused upon and thanked,Christmas trees and presents are allowed, and much if that joy is "real",and your signature is quite right, but one must remember that though we must not "love the world and what is in it" that we are until death,"in the world" and so we will have times of stumblings or seek to be exstravagant, but so long as God/Jesus comes first then we need to not trouble our selves over such trivial luxuries.
if you keep reading the 9th chapter of Romans, you will that Paul says the gentiles who have not pursued righteousness have attained it by a righteousness of faith, while Israel has not attained it, because they pursued a law, as a work, not a faith . v. 30-32.

another Hebrew roots fail.

um, no. when one comes to faith in Christ, that does make one jewish. Christianity is not a different version of judiasm.
Actually it is. Judaism was a collection of doctrines and traditions created by man and they called them The Law of Moses but Jesus said they were not. Christianity is a collection of man made doctrines and traditions and man made Feast unto the Lord which they call “Christ Like”. Jesus Words tell us this is also not true.

This is why Jesus warned to “take heed” about those “who come in His name” to deceive.

Proving that it doesn’t matter if you say Lord Lord, if you transgress the Commandments of God by your own traditions, you are no different than a Pharisee.

yes, I agree. saying that one must keep the Sabbath, the feasts, etc. is deceit .just plucking verses out of books and letters, using no context is deceit. you should know. you do often. Acts 15, 1st John3, you say these do not mean what they clearly mean. more deceit.

That's not bowing down in worship to tree or a pagan God.
Given what to you have quoted above to bow down infers worship to the tree.
Honestly, I'd not personally looked at it the way the person that brought it to me had. But setting my personal beliefs aside, I thought it wise to look at it objectively.

Where I live, there is a saying about people puking in their toilets after drinking too much. They call it "Worshiping at the Porcelain Altar"....which involves a similar bodily position and also adds the term worship directly but humorously (as though inaccurate). My personal feeling is that their saying is more accurate than they intend.

My definition of idol worship involves 2 things... 1. an idol (any item) and 2. an undue amount of respect being paid to it because of love, effort, attention, devotion, etc., that should have been given to God, but instead is given to the idol.

In the case of "Worshiping at the Porcelain Altar" the undue amount of love is given to the alcohol, and the puking is just the action required by that level of devotion. Lesser levels of devotion, of course, require lesser acts of devotion.

So to me, "Worshiping [alcohol] at the Porcelain Altar" does indeed qualify as idol worship, because it meets the criteria.

And what about a Christmas tree? I think each person would have to be honest about how much love they are showing...and more importantly, if their devotion to the action is honestly because GOD requests, requires or even appreciates it., Or is it done for some non-God reason?

And BTW, we ALL have some level of idol worship going on in our lives.

Love in Jesus,
Kelby

The commercialization of Christmas “Buy now—pay later”
synonymous with our guilt-free view of living for the present moment.

An alarming number of shoppers are still paying off debt from last Christmas
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/17/shoppers-are-still-paying-off-debt-from-2016-holidays.html

The report, which cited new data from NerdWallet’s 2017 Consumer Holiday Shopping
Report, highlighted a concerning trend in American consumerism that is contributing
to the economic downfall of the United States.
https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/finance/2017-consumer-holiday-shopping-report/

Total U.S. credit card debt is over $1 trillion—and counting.
U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time

Personal debt per citizen is an average $57,125.
The national debt is $20 trillion. According to the U.S. debt clock,
U.S. total debt is over $68 trillion. The United States economy is
wallowing in debt on an individual and national level.

U.S. citizens are in massive debt; state governments are in massive debt;
Both the individual citizens and the federal government are spending more
than they have coming in, disaster is on the horizon.

Try going cold turkey on Christmas one year.. some equate it to child abuse.. so much pressure to partake.. A day of thanks giving is every day but a day of giving and family time does not have to equate to dancing round tree’s.. which must be a sour coffee drinkers custom or something..

I would not mind abstaining but there is a message of our Saviours Birth assosciated with Christmas right or wrong.. now let me speak this but a pinch of salt may be required.... the fact that pagans celebrate and have tried to deceive.... the world hears of our Saviours Birth.. GOD is always Wiser and Above all.. GOD wins always.

Mankinds Greatest Gift is our Lord and Saviour.

I understand Luke Chapter 1 to clearly indicate that Jesus was born during Sukkot (Tabernacles) and Jn 1:14 seems to confirm this. Apart from the fact that it is part of Constantine's deliberate effort to paganize the Church I find Christmas to be probably the least objectionable paganization. The German Tannenbaum (Christmas tree) brings many people a lot of joy and any link to Pagan worship real or imagined is not in most people's awareness. It is knowing that Constantine deliberately chose the date to coincide with the feast of Saturninus that bothers me.

Loving Christmas is not false, and it is not worldly love. If you have been around children, you will know what I am talking about, pleasure is not necessarily worldly.
I have nieces & will not lie to the little ones , when it is upon the Truth , in The Word of God.

Mis Galatea on post 97 you quoted

When I was a kid, my mom showed love toward us by giving us a Christmas tree- a thing of beauty is a joy forever. It is loving to give children Christmas trees. There is no law against love.
My question to you Galatea what does a christmas tree , has to do with Jesus Christ. Please use scripture to prove your postition on this matter. I would suggest not to put forth emotions feelings , that one holds dear towards a certain holiday into this discussion, but let the Word of God prove your position that you have taken a stand upon.

i HAVE NOT seen this one for a year now.
Perhaps many people are wrong to celebrate the birth of our Salvation, Jesus Christ, one day out of the year, but in order to welcome all to be with me, and to be welcomed to be with them in our thanksgiving, I choose to celebrate or observe the birth of our Lord together.

Choose any other day of the year, and you will find it also to be pagan. Do not think pagan, think gratitude to our blessed Jesus.

It all depends! Do you bow down to it and worship it? No? Then you are A_OK.

I have a small, ceramic light-changing tree with cats on it. Am I being pagan in having it turned on and enjoying it?
