God has given us the gift of life, starting with Adam. But God waits to give each of us the gift of everlasting life, and He commissioned one of His sons to show the light to the world, that all may be saved.
The Bible tells us to wait for the Lord. Does that mean we are to sit back and wait? It goes deeper than that. For the Bible makes it clear that we are to push away things which would pull us away from God, not giving into them but to maintain the quest for righteousness in God’s name, that we may be considered worthy in His eyes. God’s Light of Salvation will be given to those whom He has judged to be righteous.
Until God makes His appearance here, each of us may see Him beforehand if He has judged us to be righteous. Our souls will go to Heaven while the flesh is left behind. Righteousness in God’s name comes through faith in Him, and faith involves some degree of waiting…that is, trusting in Him alone in matters of our righteousness.
We express our faith in Him through our works, not by just standing around. If we only need to stand around, then why does the Bible list a number of things we must do, including loving eachother as we do ourselves, helping the needy, maintaining our households, praying for those who can’t, being fruitful, obtaining understanding and avoiding the pitfalls of sin? In pursuing righteousness by such faith, we anticipate God’s coming to us and our going to Him.
No one knows when God will make his appearance on earth, but those who are left, who have been deemed righteous and who haven’t entered the Kingdom of Heaven will be stirred up, and the way shown to them. Daniel 12:2 says, “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life…” That is to say, our lives on earth before our admittance into Heaven can be compared to sleeping, compared to admittance into Heaven which would be our awakening.
Some have expressed impatience at God’s coming. Well, impatience is an earthly function of time, which doesn’t exist in Heaven as time in Heaven is an eternity not measured in hours or days or months or even years. So, we must put time aside and think instead in terms of endurance. Jesus said in Matthew 24:13-14, “But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom swill be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
