אֱלֹהִים Elohim” is also the Hebrew spelling for gods, i.e. angels of the heavenly council.

אֱלֹהִיםʼĕlôhîym, el-o-heem'; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:—angels, × exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), × (very) great, judges, × mighty.

Genesis 3:1-5 (KJV)
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, (אֱלֹהִים) knowing good and evil.

Genesis 6:2-4
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

This appears to be the fallen angels, also described as “elohim,” that took human form before the flood and fathered giants known as Nephilim. To me, it also appears that “Lucifer” was one of these. They brought knowledge to the populous of the world that only angels and God Himself should have known which were “off limits” to human kind. The nature of the Nephilim is complicated by the ambiguity of Genesis 6:4, which leaves it unclear whether they are the "sons of God" or their offspring who are the "mighty men of old, men of renown". Richard Hess in The Anchor Bible Dictionary takes it to mean that the Nephilim are the offspring.

God standeth in the congregation of the mighty (אֵל ʼêl,); he judgeth among the gods (אֱלֹהִים). How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. (Psalm 82:1-2 KJV)

In my opinion (the second sentence verse 2) God Almighty is questioning the council of fallen angles.

Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods (elohim אֱלֹהִים): I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:4 KJV)

Many preachers and teachers rarely teach these things. What say you?

No objective, just wanting to share and see what others thought about this.

You won't find "these little details", in any modern Bible, as they were considered "corrupted", or "too repetitive", in the carrying forth of the sacred texts. Yet, the book of Enoch (which this is copy and pasted from), as well as the book of Jasher, were both mentioned BY NAME, in the modern Bible. Yet? The "good sheeple", take the opinions, of sheep-skinned blind shepherds (ie canonizers), As GOSPEL! As the Catholic Church "had become", just a couple of centuries after Peter! (commentary>>) And, have PAID, and continue to pay for this, as well, as "other" omissions, from the sacred texts! (<<<commentary over).

This, is what the cannonizers, DIDN'T want known!

Book of Enoch- Starting from Chapter 6:

1 And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto 2 them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: 'Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men 3 and beget us children.' And Semjaza, who was their leader, said unto them: 'I fear ye will not 4 indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.' And they all answered him and said: 'Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations 5 not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.' Then sware they all together and bound themselves 6 by mutual imprecations upon it. And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn 7 and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. And these are the names of their leaders: Samlazaz, their leader, Araklba, Rameel, Kokablel, Tamlel, Ramlel, Danel, Ezeqeel, Baraqijal, 8 Asael, Armaros, Batarel, Ananel, Zaq1el, Samsapeel, Satarel, Turel, Jomjael, Sariel. These are their chiefs of tens.

[Chapter 7]

1 And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms 2 and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they 3 became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed 4 all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against 5 them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and 6 fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.

[Chapter 8]

1 And Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all 2 colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they 3 were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways. Semjaza taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, 'Armaros the resolving of enchantments, Baraqijal (taught) astrology, Kokabel the constellations, Ezeqeel the knowledge of the clouds, Araqiel the signs of the earth, Shamsiel the signs of the sun, and Sariel the course of the moon. And as men perished, they cried, and their cry went up to heaven . . .

Kinda Scary, ain't it?

In ancient Hebrew there were no written vowels, thus a word can not start with a vowel, a vowel can be used in pronunciation, but an ancient Hebrew word can not start with a letter that is not in the written language.

The Encyclopedia Judaica, Volume 7, page 674
'El. The oldest Semitic term for God is `el (corresponding to Akkadian ilu (m), Canaanite 'el or 'il, and Arabic 'el as an element in personal names). The etymology of the word is obscure. It is commonly thought that the term derived from a root `yl or `wl meaning "to be powerful. ‘‘It is in the power of my hand,’’ Gen. 31:29; cf. Deut. 28:32; Micah 2:1). But the converse may be true; since power is an essential element in the concept of deity, the term for deity may have been used in the transferred sense of ‘‘power.”

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance Hebrew Dictionary

#H410 'el, ale; short. from 352; strength; as adj. mighty; espec. the Almighty (but used also of any deity):—God, (god), x goodly, x great, idol, might (-y one), power, strong. Cop. names in "-el."

#H352 ayil, ah'yil; from the same as 193; prop. strength; hence anything strong; spec. a chief (politically); also a ram (from his strength); a pilaster (as a strong support); an oak or other strong tree:—mighty (man), lintel, oak, post, ram, tree.

#H193 uwl, ool; from an unused root mean. to twist. i.e. (by impl.) be strong; the body (as being rolled together); also powerful:—mighty, strength.

Goliath was a descendant of the Nephilim—the offspring of the “sons of God” breeding with human women. The Israelites failed to wipe out the Anakites—a subset of the Nephilim—in their conquest of the Promised Land, and so the Anakites survived in Gath and its surrounding cities, eventually becoming what we know as the Philistines.

Goliath was a Philistine warrior from Gath—a powerful symbol of Israel’s previous failures.

Rephaim (giants) appear in Deuteronomy 2:11; 3:11; 2 Samuel 21:19 and Joshua 11:22 and almost always take the form of one member of the Rephaim (Anaqim, Og, Goliath)

Genesis 6:4, “The Nephilim (#H5303) were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of Elohim came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, the men of name.”

Nephilim” is word #H5303 נְפִיל nphiyl (nef-eel') n-m., נְפִל nphil (nef-eel'), (properly) a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant., [from H5307], KJV: giant, Root(s): H5307

Root word of “H5303 נְפִיל nphiyl” H5307 נָפַל naphal (naw-fal') v., to fall.
{in a great variety of applications (intransitive or causative, literal or figurative), [a primitive root], KJV: be accepted, cast (down, self, (lots), out), cease, die, divide (by lot), (let) fail, (cause to, let, make, ready to) fall (away, down, -en, -ing), fell(-ing), fugitive, have (inheritance), inferior, be judged (by mistake for H6419), lay (along), (cause to) lie down, light (down), be (X hast) lost, lying, overthrow, overwhelm, perish, present(-ed, -ing), (make to) rot, slay, smite out, X surely, throw down, See also: H6419

sons” is word #H1121 - ben: son, Original Word: בֵּן, Part of Speech: Noun Masculine, Transliteration: ben, Phonetic Spelling: (bane), Short Definition: sons

Elohim” is word #H430 - elohim: God, god, Original Word: אֱלֹהִים, Part of Speech: Noun Masculine, Transliteration: elohim, Phonetic Spelling: (el-o-heem'), Short Definition: God

Now some say that the “sons of Elohim” were humans, however why would it even be stated that the “sons of Elohim came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them” Would it not say; sons of men came into daughters of men and bore children, and if that were so why would it even be mentioned? Also there is a clear difference between “of Elohim” and “of men”;

daughters of “men” is word #H120 אָדָם 'adam (aw-dawm') n-m., ruddy i.e. a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.)., [from H119], KJV: X another, + hypocrite, + common sort, X low, man (mean, of low degree), person, Root(s): H119

Job 1:6-7, “And the day came to be that the sons of Elohim came to present themselves before יהוה, and Satan also came among them. And יהוה said to Satan, “From where do you come?” And Satan answered יהוה and said, “From diligently searching in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

Job 38:4-7, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding. Who set its measurements, if you know? Or who stretched the line upon it? Upon what were its foundations sunk? Or who laid its corner-stone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of Elohim shouted for joy?”

Genesis 6:1-7, “And it came to be, when men began to increase on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of Elohim saw the daughters of men, that they were good. And they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And יהוה said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever in his going astray. He is flesh, and his days shall be one hundred and twenty years. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of Elohim came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, the men of name. And יהוה saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And יהוה was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. And יהוה said, “I am going to wipe off man whom I have created from the face of the ground, both man and beast, creeping creature and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

Genesis 6:9-13, “This is the genealogy of Noaḥ. Noaḥ was a righteous man, perfect in his generations. Noaḥ walked with Elohim. And Noaḥ brought forth three sons: Shĕm, Ḥam, and Yapheth. And the earth was corrupt before Elohim, and the earth was filled with violence. And Elohim looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt – for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth and Elohim said to Noaḥ, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. And see, I am going to destroy them from the earth.”

Numbers 13:28-29, “But the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are walled, very great. And we saw the descendants of Anaq there too. The Amalĕqites dwell in the land of the South, while the Ḥittites and the Yeḇusites and the Amorites dwell in the mountains. And the Kena‛anites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Yardĕn.”

Numbers 13:32-33, “And they gave the children of Yisra’yl a disturbing report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land eating up its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size. And we saw there the Nephilim, (#H5303) sons of Anaq, (#H6061) of the Nephilim (#H5303). And we were like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and so we were in their eyes.”

5303 - Nephilim: "giants," name of two peoples, one before the flood and one after the flood, Original Word: נְפִילִים, Part of Speech: Noun Masculine, Transliteration: Nephilim, Phonetic Spelling: (nef-eel'), Short Definition: Nephilim

6061 - Anaq: "neck," a Canaanite, Original Word: עֲנָק, Part of Speech: Proper Name Masculine, Transliteration: Anaq, Phonetic Spelling: (aw-nawk'), Short Definition: Anak

Ezekiyl 28:13-19, “You were in Ĕḏen, the garden of the Most High. Every precious stone was your covering: the ruby, topaz, and diamond, beryl, shoham, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald and gold. The workmanship of your settings and mountings was prepared for you on the day you were created. You were the anointed keruḇ that covered. And I placed you, you were on the set-apart mountain of Yah. You walked up and down in the midst of stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you. By the greatness of your trade you became filled with violence within, and you sinned. So I thrust you from the mountain of Yah, and I destroyed you, O covering keruḇ, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your loveliness, you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendour. I threw you to the earth, I laid you before sovereigns, to look at you. You profaned your set-apart places by your many crookednesses, by the unrighteousness of your trading. Therefore I brought forth fire from your midst. It has devoured you, and I turned you to ashes upon the earth before the eyes of all who see you. All who knew you among the peoples were astonished at you. Waste you shall be, and cease to be, forever.”

You were the anointed keruḇ that covered

keruḇ” is word #H3742 כְּרוּב kruwb (ker-ooɓ') n-m., 1. a cherub. a created spiritual being having a various descriptions., 2. (apparently) a spiritual being created for a discrete purpose, thus differing from other cherubim in this manner., [of uncertain derivation], KJV: cherub, (plural) cherubims.

You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you

unrighteousness” is word #H5766 עֶוֶל `evel (eh'-vel) n-e., עָוֶל `avel (aw'-vel)
(moral) evil., [from H5765], KJV: iniquity, perverseness, unjust(-ly), unrighteousness(-ly); wicked(-ness). , Root(s): H5765

I threw you to the earth

Revelation 12:7-9, “And there came to be fighting in the heaven: Miḵa’ĕl and his messengers fought against the dragon. And the dragon and his messengers fought, but they were not strong enough, nor was a place found for them in the heaven any longer. And the great dragon was thrown out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who leads all the world astray. He was thrown to the earth, and his messengers were thrown out with him."

Isaiah 14:12-16, “How you have fallen from heaven, child of the light! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart; I will ascend above the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of YHWH. I will sit in the highest place on the holy mountain ofthe congregation. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet you will be brought down to Sheol; the grave, to the sides ofthe pit. Those who see you will stare at you, and they will talk about you, saying; Is this the one; the adversary, who shook the earth, and made kingdoms tremble?"

The Law and Supreme Authority of the Creator of the heavens and earth has always existed… It is what keeps the planets from colliding, it keeps the demons in check, it' was the standard by which satan was shown to be a transgressor and thus banished.... for if there was no Law from the beginning then nothing satan did back then that could be considered transgression, thus would have done nothing the was wrong. Same goes for current times, if there is no Law now, nothing is sin..... However we know there was a Law because the adversary did evil and was/will be punished for it:

Ezekiyl 32:7-.9 "And when I will cast you out, I will cover the heaven, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give her light. All the bright lights of heaven I will make dark over you, and set darkness upon your land, says Father YHWH: I will trouble the hearts of many people when I bring your destruction among the nations; into the countries which you have not known."

Interesting view about it, in my opinion the sons of God is referring to the children of Adam and Eve before being cast out of the garden, bazaar right lol, I already know, hehe

....Oft times, posts that are really pertinent, for and to a believer, as well, as a "seeker", become SUCH a "burr under the saddle", here in the BDF, that there are even competitions held, in "how quickly can we BURY this topic, to at least get it off the first page."
This is important, and extremely relevant information!

[h=1]Psalm 110King James Version (KJV)[/h] 110 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Jehovah SHALL accomplish that, which He stated in verse 1.

1 of the questions you should be asking yourself, should be: "How many Priests, make up an "order?"

Another one should be: "Am I, 1 of these Priests?"

...."Is a Priest Of Jesus the Christ, in this same "order?"

...."If this is a "For EVER Priesthood?" Just WHEN, did it BEGIN for ME?"

....
"What would have God said to Job, had Job answered: "I was in the "councils of Your good will, and pleasure" awaiting my time to be sent."

.....Does this make all believers in Christ, Apostles?

The Book of Enoch was patently an inter-testamental pseudepigrapha. Not scary at all lol

Elohim has multiple meanings in Scripture. My favorite use of the word at the time being is in the creation account, when "the Spirit of Elohim hovered over the waters".

An alternate interpretation could read "the wind of The Elohim hovered over the waters." That is just such beautiful imagery to me.

It also could reflect an older cultural theology. Of course we know now that this is referring to the Trinity (and perhaps angels were with God on the earth at this point) but back then the Canaanites would have understood it as their pantheon. Now before anyone yells at me for that, remember God has a history of using other religions and cultures to point to Him, like with the Magi and the star. There very well could have been some cultural assimilation with Canaan and Israel that God used to reveal Himself through.

I'll also comment on the book of Enoch. I think if there was ever any remote possibility that any book got cheated out of the Canon, I would vote Enoch. This is a hypothetical scenario of course, lol.

Fascinating stuff!

What say you?

elohim = god , angel, even man

the context of God must be seen in the word as it is given . Knowing that man cannot fully know God . This is the simplest word for God in the Bible if the context means it to be so. as we progress through the Bible we see more of God and His name is revealed.

Mighty God , Living God , I AM, Lord God , Lord God that heals , Lord God my provider. names of HIs action or nature.

אֱלֹהִים Elohim” is also the Hebrew spelling for gods, i.e. angels of the heavenly council.

1. This statement should really be "'Elohim' in the Bible generally means the LORD God Almighty, but it can also be translated as 'gods', depending on context".

2. The singular is "Eloah" and the plural is "Elohim" (God), but it is a uni-plural word which represents the triune Godhead.

3. To distinguish the one true God from every false God, we find YHWH (YHVH) Elohim (the LORD God) in the Old Testament, who is also called "the Almighty". YHWH is generally translated as "Jehovah" in our Bibles (and this is perfectly legitimate).

4. Because God has many attributes YHWH is also combined with other Hebrew words to present God in His various attributes through compound names, e.g. Jehovah Jireh (literally the LORD who sees, and therefore the LORD who provides). Others are Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Nissi, etc. and these should be studied out in their specific contexts.

5. Ultimately it is God the Holy Spirit who decided how to designate God throughout the Bible, so all of these are not human inventions but Divine revelations of the LORD God Almighty.
