Matthew 28:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
28 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

Matthew 28:1-4 Expanded Bible (EXB)
Jesus Rises from the Dead

28 After the Sabbath day, at dawn on the first day the week, Mary Magdalene and •another woman named Mary [L the other Mary; 27:56]went to look at the tomb.
2 •At that time [Suddenly; T And behold] there was a strong earthquake. [L For] An angel of the Lord came down from heaven, went to the tomb, and rolled the stone away from the entrance. Then he sat on the stone. 3 •He was shining as bright as [L His appearance was like]lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The soldiers guarding the tomb shook with fear because of the angel, and they •became like dead men [C perhaps they were paralyzed by fear, or they fainted].

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 This would have been early Sunday morning. They went to the tomb of Jesus, now if it wasn’t the Sabbath they would have done this before but they had to wait for the Sabbath to end first.

2 This earthquake opened Jesus’ tomb but also would have opened up the graves of others because Jesus rose first then others followed Him. So the tomb was open, this wasn’t so that Jesus could come out but so they could go in. Jesus was already out of the tomb. The angel was there to tell them what just happened.

3 This displays God’s glory; he is the angel of the most high. Lightning shows that he had power, it came straight from God. White clothes showed he was pure because God is holy.

4 So the men guarding were so afraid, they knew the truth about Jesus and it scared them rather then them submitting to the Lord they were scared and did nothing. Often times our fear can keep us from doing what we need to.

Mark 16:1-8

“When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.
2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large.5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed.6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.”

Emphasis is to show that the Sabbath had past or after the Sabbath in Matthew and Mark. Luke makes it clear that it is the first day of the week, "at early dawn", so that there is no doubt that it is not the Sabbath.

John 20:1
“Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.” To make sure that we understand that it is not the Sabbath and that it is the first day of the week. Let's not forget that if the Lord had risen on the Sabbath, the Holy Spirit could of moved in the heart's of the women to go to the Tomb after 6 P.M. because it is still light in Jerusalem in the spring time, if our Lord had risen on the Sabbath and not the first day of the week. There was plenty of time for the women to come to the Tomb immediately after the Sabbath to show that our Lord had risen on the Sabbath.

But that is not the case, we have faithful women that came following the Sabbath for verifacation that He did not rise on the Sabbath. The beauty of the true teaching of the ressurection is right down to the exact time and it is not the exact time of the Sabbath, it was the resurrection on the first day of the week, with the validation of the day by the coming of the promised Holy Spirit.

The most important part of the ressurection, is it's time and the emphesis is your's to keep in affirmation of His resurrection on the first day of the week, as was the inauguration of the Church on the Day of Pentecost when it had fully come or the sun had fully risen to mark the day time of the first day of the week. The resurrection of the Lord was on the first day of the week and 50 days later the promised Holy Spirit was given to the Church to mark to beginning of a and living way to worship the Lord.
