Why is this in the bible discussion forum?
And this rule has been in place for years, and the site owner said it's staying that way. The site has been around over 15 years and they picked that number for a few reasons.
Not really a big deal if you proofread first.
Amen..........and it keeps one from going back hours later and changing text, chaning context and twisting conversations so far out of whack that even Aunt Aunties pretzle shop would not sell it as defective........

Truthfully, I get the five minute window. This IS the Internet after all. Leave it to someone to type something in a fury, post it, walk away, decide to fluff it up so it doesn't sound like an angry rant, and then repost. Just like one of our "let me fix that for you," but in that case, someone is already blasting the OP for blasting, doesn't know the OP went back 15 minutes later, half an hour later, three hours later, or a day later, to make it into something else. Which then makes the person blasting back look like a Neanderthal boob.

So, nope. Five minutes. If we aren't into being responsible for our actions immediately, we get a grand total of becoming responsible for our actions for five whole minutes. Something we do NOT get IRL.

As for typos and junk? So what? Worst comes to worst, we find out who the Grammar Police are to correct out booboos, and frankly, I wouldn't mind the Grammar Police following me all around, because between my ineffectiveness when it comes to basic grammar and then my aphasia, I really would love the Grammar Police to stop making me look like what I am -- an incompetent communicator with a degree in Communications.

That said...

Frankly, anyone trying to contribute intelligently in this kind of forum, while using a phone, is asking for trouble. If you aren't willing to proofread carefully BEFORE you post, you can expect to be blasted for your poor spelling, wacky ideas, disjointed thoughts, unsupported assertions, and heretical statements.

It's kind of like driving a car. You need to pay attention, because if you miss the speed limit sign, it's still your fault for speeding. You ARE responsible and accountable for what you post, whether you like it or not. Sure, you can apologize, restate, clarify, and so on, but in the end, you own what you posted, and if reflects on you. Therefore, be cautious.

As an aside, a five-minute editing window in real life would be wonderful! Five minutes to edit a post is generous.
Okay. So how brave are you? Did you really text that or keyboard it? lol

Yes we all understand to proof read, and hopefully never have to edit anything.
Yes indeed we all understand that.

Yes,we all understand we should never, ever have to edit anything, and that in a perfect world, everyone would take an extra, extra, extra amount of time, and never, ever need to edit anything. Yes,we all do understand that ..

And yes the 5 minute rule is so,so generous, and we should be thankful that there is an edit button, even though we should never, ever have to use such a thing. Yes,yes, yes,so true.

But no,I am not concerned with the edit button at all. I could care less about it.
My pint is...... 5 minutes.
It COULD be extended with ZERO negative impact.

ZERO.
You guys act like it some holy ground or something.

eeeek ,gads !!!!!!

He dared to question the thinggy.....our thinggy.

Perhaps you have heard of this phenomena:

Here is a brief sentence that has intentional misspellings. Can you read it?

  • Tihs is a smaple snetecne to tset yuor brian's abiltiy to corrcet mitskaes.

We bet you could read it, couldn't you? See? Your brain helped you to read the sentence — despite the misspellings — so you could understand it even without AutoCorrect!

So how does your brain do this? And how does it do it so easily? You didn't even have to think about the misspellings and figure them out, did you? Your brain just did it automatically.

Scientists believe that the brain's ability to make sense out of misspelled words — and to do so automatically and so quickly — stems from the fact that most proficient readers don't read words one letter at a time. Instead, most readers recognize entire words at once by seeing the first and last letters of the word and combining that information with other important information, such as the length, shape and content of the word.

So, as long as the first and last letters are correct and the other letters that make up the word are there — even if they're mixed up — our brains can make sense of them quickly. This allows us to read quickly and efficiently without getting slowed down or tripped up by misspellings.

Our brains do this in about a dozen different areas of the brain. Most of it occurs in the left hemisphere, which is why people with exceptional written language skills are sometimes referred to as “left brain" thinkers.

Several times this rule has completely helped me into having a correction jettisoned in favor of having a post inaccurately posted.

What is the purpose of this???

5 minutes???

5 hours would be unecessary but might do what the 5Minute rule is trying to.....prevent?
....cure????...... Do????
Even after reviewing my post for several minutes before posting I always find errors after posting. 5 minutes is not enough time. 10 to 15 minutes would be more adequate.

I'm not seeing it, despite having re-read my post three times. I'm beginning to think you're messing with me. :)

I saw it right away, and waited five minutes to see if you would catch, and change it, which you did not. I do not even have to look again to tell you: you used the word "if" in place of "it," near to the end of your first post. I am not messing with you :) Here, I will show you (I went back to get it :))~

The formatting messed up and I know from experience that the two quote boxes cannot be eliminated. I have no idea why it does that :(

Yup, I totally missed that one! It simply proves that even well-intentioned effort to catch one's errors does not guarantee perfection. :)

Thanks, btw.

You are welcome :) It also proves that small errors like that are not deal breakers. I knew what you meant, and am pretty sure most others would, too. Also, that is the type of mistake I would miss no matter how many times I proof read my own message. Some small thing will escape my attention until it is way too late to change it  I did not mean to pick on you, or be critical of you, or make fun of you, or anything like that... I just thought it a small point of humor given the topic :D Please forgive me for pointing it out

it really is kinda of funny/sad, when we can't even allow ourselves even the smallest
of mistakes, and just let them go... I'm guilty, hubs not, he's so layed-back and so full of
a special kind of assurance that I m striving to attain - are we striving for Jesus' perfection,
or is it simply a part of our refining?!?!?
(is He saying, 'leave yourself alone sometimes and give yourself a break' for you know in
your hearts that I always pardon even the smallest things)even those small errors that we can't
go back and fix?!?!?
may we all be the best that we can be for Jesus, but let us Love ourselves enough to always remember
that there is only ONE who is perfect! no offence intended!:)

At least you have spellchecker as a reason. I'm assuming you didn't really mean genitals both times, and yet got spellchecked incorrectly. I'm thinking, "gentle," type "genitals," and even when I proof it I'm seeing "gentle."

Aphasia. Might be lucky the next day to see the real word, but...alas. Genitals it is.

(Truthfully, I feel sorry for readers, because it's not always easy to see my mis-types for what is meant. lol)

Note to self: always, always run ones genitals through the spell-checker.

Duly noted, and observed.

This vital piece of information couldn't be more timely, seeing as I've long-planned on writing an entire series of threads about genitals, and I certainly wouldn't want to "reproduce" any errors...:eek:;)
