Did we really use to live a lot longer back in the day. The more I think about it, the more the next generation is being created, the life span has shorten every single time. From Adam living to be 930yrs old, to going to the story of Abraham 140yrs, to Moses 120yrs. So you see, every single generation, it decreases the life span of humans. Does anyones else question that? I sure do. Let me hear your thoughts and opinions on this subject please.

Thank you and God Bless

Makes sense to me. The more time goes on the more inundated we become with sin. Adam and Eve were created perfect, if you recall. And as time went on the more sin infected and affected. And since sin brings death, it only makes sense death would come faster.
Also we can't escape changes in diet, lifestyle and medicine. Overall, in most 1st world countries people tend to take less care of themselves and be less active and more stressed. But they also don't die from things that killed lots of people 100 years ago, due to improvements in modern medicine. So we live longer now, than 100 years ago because medicine can do more. So, actually, the life expectancy has increased from the past few generations. But quality of (physical/health) life has decreased from less activity and more stress.
But, overall, due to sin, the further we get from God's original design and infected more with sin, the more we can expect to see a decline in length of life.

Either or
a) they used a different calendar

b) they summed many generations and covered it by one most significant name only

c) its some kind of symbols

Some other ancient cultures have these huge life spans for their kings or heroes. Can be just an express of reverence or they simply thought that when rules somebody from the lineage, its like the first one patriarch still ruled.

God saw His creation as being good. After Eve was made, He proclaimed it very good, but Adam and Eve did not eat of the Tree of Life, which is a type of Christ, in Whom we are perfected.

God shortened our days for the sake of His Elect ones who suffer various forms and degrees of persecution. He also did it as punishment to mankind for sinning so much. “Man’s days shall be 120.” “Men are like the grass of the fields- here today and gone tomorrow.” Adam and Eve would have lived forever had they not sinned. We are only here long enough to be tested for heaven.

Sin came into the world of man, after Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of Knowledge of good and evil. With every generation born, more corruption and sinful acts, came about to the world of man. My thoughts are that man lived too long, and too long means they would sin even more, corrupting their souls, which means, they will not be able to go to the Father after death. Shortening ones life, would perhaps help with man from sinning for so long. Lets face it, if God didn't send His only Son, to die for us, we humans, would never stand a chance against the sinful nature that we all have in ourselves, to fight against such a force. So with that being said, the life-span of a man has shorten quite alot, do to the sinful acts, throughout the ages. Our lives here and now matters, we must keep praying and keeping the faith alive.

In Jesus's Name, Amen.

Hello King907,

I believe that the age level has been going up in this generation. Also, during the millennial kingdom the longevity of mankind will be as it was prior to the flood. We have scripture that states that "if a man dies at a hundred, he will be thought to be a mere child." Also, "If a man dies at a hundred he will be thought to be cursed," which to me infers longevity. And just fyi, Abraham lived to be 175 years old. ;)

Here is an interesting article (link below) from the "Answers in Genesis" website that explains why people used to live longer. It's a very fascinating study! :)

https://answersingenesis.org/bible-timeline/genealogy/did-adam-and-noah-really-live-over-900-years/
That is an interesting article, but it errs to say that God created Adam and Eve with the ability to live forever, since they never ate of the Tree of Life, which God barred from them in their sinful state specifically so they would not live forever. Now if he simply meant that they would have had life ever after had they chosen to eat of the Tree of Life instead of the forbidden tree of knowledge of good and evil, he would have had a valid point :) I don't think that is what he meant, though, and many make the same mistake to assume otherwise against what the text explicitly says :(

They lived longer because they were closer to the beginning ot mankind so sin had not taken it toll on the bodies as they do know. Sin is what shortens life and there is a theory called the "canopy theory" that is drawn out of Genesis 1:6-8

“Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.”

This firmament caused a greenhouse effect that caused
vegetables to grow large and they had complete protiens in them as well and it blocked uv rays. Once the flood came it did away with this firmament, so vegetables were less nourishing. Since this happened man began to live less or die sooner. Here in Genesis 7:10-12 we see that the shy opens up as well as the fountains of the earth.

“And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth.11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.12 And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.”

No more
canopy to cause the greenhouse effect and the protection from uv rays is not going to be there anymore.

I have no problem with the accounts of the age reached by Adam and Methuselah.. Seems either the genetics back then had a longer life time set or the environment back then was way better at protecting human bodies from interstellar radiation sources.. The decay in both the environment and genetics seems to have happened rapidly over a few generations..

Recently the average life expectancy of some people on earth have increased.. But this is within a certain limitation and it requiors first world medical intervention to achieve this increase.. In some parts of the world if a person makes it to 50 they have lived longer then their national average..

Japan: Average age expectancy 74 years old.... Sierra Leone: Average life expectancy 44 years old...

Switzerland : Age expectancy 73 years old..... Angola : Average life expectancy 45 years old...
