That everyone seems to skip?

First of all, I'm an atheist. I was Christian but as I grew up, I realized that I don't believe in God. It doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, even though I'm not a believer, I find religions very interesting. One of my 2018 goals is to read the bible, the whole thing. So yesterday I started and already on the first pages I found something very questionable in Genesis. The woman was created for the man? And the man dominates the woman? What?
I won't even start with Leviticus.

I also wonder why so many Christians never read the bible. How can you believe in something when you haven't even read your holy book?
So please tell me, how can you believe in something that has so many questionable things?

Hello. And welcome to CC!

You can read the Bible a thousand times over and virtually none of it will make sense or it will seem like foolishness, UNLESS you hear THE Gospel unto Salvation, accept Him, and are born again with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He will then, at HIS pace, reveal the Truths you seek.

So here is part one, the Gospel:

God wrapped Himself in human flesh in the form of Jesus Christ. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, suffered, was crucified, died to pay the debt for OUR sin, and was raised to life on the 3rd day, according to the Scriptures.

Confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart He is raised to life, and you WILL be saved.

Holy Father, I pray that you will perform a miracle in this person's life, and save them by giving the faith to believe in Your son. In Jesus sweet Name I pray.

First of all you are 17,you are a long way from gown up. You have no life experiences to speak of at so young an age. Its rather early for you to make up your mind about so serious an issue.

Man and women were made to compliment each other, they both have different roles. The husband protects the wife, and he loves her the same way Christ loves us. My husband and I work hand in hand and I believe that is what God designed marriage. The two become one.

I suppose there are Christians that never read the Bible, but thats not generally true, though I hear atheists say that often. I don't know all the answers, there are things in the Bible I may not understand but its a big world, plenty of things that are hard to understand.

Actually, these places are very discussed and preached about, so I am not sure why do you think "everyone seems to skip them". Maybe people in your surroundings, only.

I also wonder why so many Christians never read the bible. How can you believe in something when you haven't even read your holy book?

Some people call themselves Christians, but only for cultural reasons, they do not have any living faith. Such people will not be present here on Bible discussion forum, so we cannot do anything about it here.

Hi Carla. Welcome here!

The only thing I can tell you is that almost everything we are surrounded , make us believe or at least, may imply we should question everything. Even the most unexplainable thing, when the fact you should explain the explainable is the most popular paradox, per se.

This, probably, makes men (with "men" I mean humans) feel "not enough" or "useless" or something similar. This can cause cynicism, so, to stop believing into the unexplainable, since we can only use a reduced form of understanding and/or believing something : Logic.

If you seek logic for believing into something, it will be hard .

Now, everything I said here is supposition and a big " perhaps " . I don't know you and/so, I'm not trying to give you a lesson or something to be thoughtful about.

Just a thought I wanted to share and see how someone, not necessarily you, will modified or correct it.

Have a good day :) .

Okay look.
I need you to explain the bible to me, please.
Yes I know, I'm only 17 and have no life experience yet. But I did think about what I believe. It's not like I wouldn't want to believe, it has a lot of advantages. But I can't because I can't believe it. I just can't.

So basically, there's this really old book, talking about how there's a God and telling all of these stories. How can you know that it's not made up?

Also sorry for the mistake in the title, I wanted to write "many" instead of "much".

Carla,

First, correction. You weren't a Christian. You grew up being an ethnically-christian. That is, you were raised in a family that considered themselves Christians. Not the same thing as being born again Christian.

Second, you are 17, therefore you have to read a lot of textbooks in your life. Exactly how often did you read the first page of anyone of them, not get something from that page and then decide two things:
1. You have questions, therefore the book is questionable?
2. Why has no one else ever read this questionable book?

Really? Really really? You've read the first page. How about deciding if the book is worth reading or not after actually reading the book?

Third, this has nothing to do with religion!

What your asking is kin to hitting the first page of your civics book, and then demanding people with degrees in civics tell you all the book would tell you, if you just read it! Has that ever worked for you yet? And do you really think it ever should?

First off Hi, it's nice to meet you and I am glad you're here. I want to address some of the things you've said here. First off you say " I was Christian but as I grew up, I realized that I don't believe in God". What exactly do you think makes one a Christian? Are you suggesting you can be changed by our almighty creator, literally from the inside out born again, then just stop believing He is real? I don't think you can KNOW someone then make yourself believe they are not real. I think you may have a false idea of what a Christian is.

As far as the whole woman being created by man, if there is no God then so what, who cares whats written in this fictional book?

The last thing is you ask "
I also wonder why so many Christians never read the bible", how on earth do you know this? I read my bible every day, but I have also professed to be a Christian when I wasn't really saved and then I never read it at all. So I honestly think this all stems from a misunderstanding of what a Christian is, and just saying "I'm Christian." is not the criteria.

I want to ask you now, what do you believe? Can you tell me, have you really thought about how you honestly view reality? You say Jesus doesn't "
make sense to me", what is the better option?

Actually, it does not matter, you can know more than some 70 years old. It all depends on how you spend/invest your time.

So basically, there's this really old book, talking about how there's a God and telling all of these stories. How can you know that it's not made up?
Because Jesus rose from the dead and so everything He taught was right.

Why do doctors make treatments for cancer before some people even get that kind of cancer?

Again, you're asking the silly questions to avoid reading the book.

Doesn't really sound sincere.

Really? Name three wise reasons to believe. (Since you've thought all this out so completely.)

What I believe?
Hm..
Well, nothing I guess.
I don't know how to explain it. I just..appreciate life a lot. It's rare, our existence is amazing and every time I think about this, it fascinates me. I think the purpose of life is to be truly happy. For some that's believing - if it makes someone happy, that's awesome.

Jesus died to redeem all of creation, and He did so because we are completely incapable of doing so ourselves. He died for your sins because He is good, and so we can glorify His name. He takes us broken wretched things and makes us all new to seek Him for His glory. It's ALL about Him, I am just thankful He is so good.

Depleted, I'm sorry to say this but maybe please change your tone a little?
You sound a little aggressive.
I want to read the bible, I really do. And I'm also doing it.

I can't come up with wise reasons to believe. With advanteges I mean that it's just a very nice feeling to belong to a group. To have a place to stay and always someone to talk to.

I'm sorry, I probably make a lot of mistakes, English isn't my native language (as you might have guessed).

You should first study if there is God.

After that you should study if Jesus was His Son.

When you will get to a positive conclusion, then the Bible will have a meaning for you, and will be living in your heart, I think.

To belong to a church just for relationships will not save you from God's wrath.

P.S. Your English is very good.

Do you serve shovels when you're passing out this much manure?

You call yourself an atheist. Atheist believe something, not nothing. At least be real.

Because so far, all you're doing is what every other teen atheist has done when they joined this site. At least show some individuality. Some you. Some of your thoughts. Not stuff that's been done so often it's like reading Green Eggs and Ham five times a day for five years.

Really. Don't mind if you really are an atheist. I mind if the only thing you're going to do is what every teen atheist who joins this stie seems to do. And so far, that's what you're doing. (Not so much looking for answers as much as proving you aren't giving any either. You just think you're going to get us to agree with you if you keep asking the same ole questions.)
