[for me anyway] as for secular observations:
"Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years." (Galatians 4:10)
An observation: We must needs consider all of this pagan world's traditions and celebrations and observances: for they are there for the purpose of distracting us from God and His righteousness, and from keeping us from continually bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ, and for no other purpose; for paganism has from the beginning turned many away from submitting to and relying upon God and His Word. For behold in times past the followers of Christ were compassed about with the pagan world's events and observances for the worship and glorification of their gods glory; yet now are they still there, and we need only to look at a calander to see most all of them. It is possible for those who have made a great profession of Christianity to be afterwards drawn back into very great defections from the purity and simplicity of in Christ. The more mercy God has shown to many in bringing them into an acquaintance with the Gospel, and the liberties and privileges of it, the greater are their sins and folly in suffering themselves to be deprived of them. There is a great deal of pain for their sake in preaching the Gospel of Christ to them: but afterward they were given up on their Lord, and thereby rendering His labour among them fruitless and ineffectual. Those who begin in the Spirit and end in the flesh, who, although they seem to set out well, yet afterwards turn aside from the way of the Gospel do voluntarily turn back unto their downfall. All such that turn back to the world as did Lot's wife shall have a great deal to answer for. Men also in times past as well do now seek for mythical revelations of things which they have taken out of scripture by wrongly dividing the Word of Truth, and have made an obsession out of their beliefs which they do fiercely defend. Observances of men highly esteemed is an abomination in the eyes of God, because it is an idolatry for men to honor and exalt one another, because they seek not the honor that comes from God only.
Jan 1, 2018 a New year begins. It's another great day to thank, praise & worship God. For His merciful Grace found in the death, burial & resurrection of our Lord & Savior, Jesus the Christ! Amen
What does scripture say about this?
Romans 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
(We all have a right to choose. When? When we choose for the right reason. Next verse explains how to discern, the right or wrong way to observe any given day)
Romans 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
(If we choose to observe any day unto the Lord, unselfishly as an act of worship, and according to the dictates of a Godly conscience. We are free to celebrate or not celebrate)
Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
(One day, we will all stand before God and explain our actions/choices. 2 Cor 5:10 & Rev 20:11-13)
Romans 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
(We are not to judge/condemn one another for a personal choice of any unselfish worship & praise towards God).
Romans 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
(This scripture say's, if you're uncomfortable with a Christmas/New Year/Whatever celebration, DON'T DO IT! If you go against your own conscience, you sin.)
Happy New Year to All!
