When the disciples received the Holy Ghost in Acts 2, what was the reference to Joel about? And what about the part in the last verse (2:21) “that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Acts 2:16-21: “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Has there been any era where that has happened. Joel chapter 1 speaks about the devastation of the earth and the Day of the Lord (Future events).

Then Joel 2 ends with: 31: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.” 32: “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.”

The way I read that is everyone that calls on the Lord will have salvation. Surely, that is not today. So when is it? Let me hear from you and let’s discuss it.

Yours, Deade

The way I read that is everyone that calls on the Lord will have salvation. Surely, that is not today.
Salvation is indeed for today, and for further insight into "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" study the entire 10th chapter of Romans. It has been for "today" ever since the finished work of Christ was completed back in AD30.

However, Joel's prophecies should be interpreted properly, since they intermingle previous, current, and future prophecies as though they are one seamless whole.

The term "Day of the LORD" should alert every Christian that that is a reference to a future time of severe judgments upon the earth corresponding to the Great Tribulation.

This was fulfilled at Pentecost and thereafter:
But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy...

This is yet future:
And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

This was fulfilled, is being fulfilled, and will also be fulfilled later:
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved...“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.”

Just to add to what N6 said, what Peter was speaking of was a synopsis of the last days, not the end of days or the "great and notable day of the Lord." With the end of days starting with the signs and wonder in the heavens.

If you read Matthew 24:29-31, 25:31-46
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.31
And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

25:31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

We see a simularity to Joel's prophecy and if you go to chapter 3:1-16, we see that Jesus spoke of that prophecy in Matthew 24 & 25.

Joel 3:1-16 “For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,2 I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land,3 and have cast lots for my people, and have traded a boy for a prostitute, and have sold a girl for wine and have drunk it.

4 What are you to me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you paying me back for something? If you are paying me back, I will return your payment on your own head swiftly and speedily.5 For you have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried my rich treasures into your temples.6 You have sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks in order to remove them far from their own border.7 Behold, I will stir them up from the place to which you have sold them, and I will return your payment on your own head.8 I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a nation far away, for the Lord has spoken.

9
Proclaim this among the nations: Consecrate for war; stir up the mighty men. Let all the men of war draw near; let them come up.10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, “I am a warrior.”11 Hasten and come, all you surrounding nations, and gather yourselves there. Bring down your warriors, O Lord.12 Let the nations stir themselves up and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Go in, tread, for the winepress is full. The vats overflow, for their evil is great.14 Multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.15 The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.16 The Lord roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth quake. But the Lord is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel.

We need to remember that "the last days" and "the end of days" or "the great and notable day of the Lord" are different, the last two are speaking of the time that brings in the consumantion or the regeneration. We see in Matthew 25:31 is the brginning when Jesus sits in His throne of glory, the great and notable day of the Lord or the end of days. Starting with the judgement of the nations and it moves on from there.

The prophecy taught in Acts 2 is repeated in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

The Holy Spirit, is teaching End Time Prophecy through Peter :about The Tribulation of Satan.
That is what Joel taught , as does Revelation and Daniel and the other prophets .

That is about when God will send Satan to deceive all on the earth that are ignorant of His warnings .

God will give His Holy Spirit to His Elect when their Christian family, turn them over to Satan ( falsechrist ) for trial .
The Holy Spirit, is showing on Pentecost day, through the apostles, a prelude of what is to come, written in the prophets concerning the Last Days ( This is that , is a example of again Latter Day prophecy leading to Christs return at the 7th Trump ) .

Christians that know the Signs of the time ; God will pour out His Spirit on those Christians, and they will Allow God Himself , The Holy Spirit to speak through them during those trials . That is the publishing of the Word of God to the world during those very public trials . Gods Elect, against he who The entire world will believe is Jesus Christ returned .

Anyone that hears God Speak during those trials , can repent and be saved.. Rather than be Satan worshipers. Consider the warnings to the churches . God says, to the Elect, be very careful, Allow God to speak . The are warned themselves Not to speak , but God will literally speak through them .
It is not they that speak, but the Holy Spirit..

Messiah warning them, due to their false teachings, they're on the precipice of falling into apostasy . .

How about posting some Scripture cause all I see are the words of a man, you never quoted the Word of God, so that's what you believe not what God's word teaches.

Ill post scripture for people that actually care to read the scriptures .

I think you've already seen how these forums go ; so called Christians being very rude to one another , and very ignorant about the Bible .

Based off your two replies to me thus far, across two threads now ; you're starting to give me the impression you don't care very much about scripture reference ; otherwise you'd know the scriptures I was drawing from immediately ...

But if you treat me with some dignity and respect, like a fellow Christian brother, then ill be more apt to share scriptures . Otherwises do not hold your breath. Because I wont be arguing with you about Bible..

Hi OtherWay210,

You say this is just a trail: Like a courtroom trial. Remember the time of the Judges: The period they judged is called a judgement. God is not going to resurrect flesh and bone people to condemn them. This judgement is a period of time when Satan will be loosed and try to turn many to his evil ways. This White Throne Judgement is pictured as the Last Great Day in the Hebrew festivals. The Feast of Ingathering pictures the 1000 year reign of Christ on earth:
Exodus 23:16 And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field. The Last Great Day is the tail end of the Feast of Ingathering. Most people have not been given the Holy Spirit before this time. When will the people have a chance to serve god and Jesus? That will be during the White Throne Judgement. John 7:37: In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

Yours,

Deade
