Matthew (Levi) knew Jesus and was His disciple, and yes Matthew is considered a genuine letter.

Luke: Did not know Jesus directly, but gathered His information from eye witnesses and the Apostles. Luke was very careful and detailed in His account.

Mark: Did not know Jesus, and was actually the traveling companion of Paul and Barnabas (who later caused them to split up) *read Acts( which was also written by Luke).* It is said, though not proven, that Peter (the disciple/Apostle) may have dictated the Gospel of Mark to him. It is known that Peter took Mark on to be a disciple for a time.

John: This book is the most widely debated because it's content differs from the others. However, it is thought of to be written by the Apostle John, who knew Jesus very well, and who also outlived the rest of the Apostles. John may have written the book from a different perspective to shed light on areas that the other gospels did not cover, which would make John's Gospel the last to be written.

What do you say?

Hello LOLOKGal, first I say, welcome back! :)

Then I say, some believe Mark to be the young man in the garden of
Gethsemane, who fled without his robe at the time of Jesus' arrest :eek:

This is only mentioned in the gospel of Mark :D

According to the Gospel of Matthew, the twelve apostles were;
Now (as written Matthew 10:2-4) in the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first,

  1. Simon, who is called Peter,and
  2. Andrew his brother;
  3. James the son of Zebedee, and
  4. John his brother;
  5. Philip,and
  6. Bartholomew;
  7. Thomas, and
  8. Matthew the publican;
  9. James the son of Alphaeus, and
  10. Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
  11. Simon the Canaanite, and
  12. Judas, the brother of James, the son of Alphaeus

These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: Matthew 10:5

According to the Gospel of Luke, the twelve apostles were
And when it was day, (as written in Luke 6:13-16) he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

  1. Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and
  2. Andrew his brother,
  3. James and
  4. John,
  5. Philip and
  6. Bartholomew,
  7. Matthew and
  8. Thomas,
  9. James the son of Alphaeus, and
  10. Simon called Zelotes, and
  11. Judas the brother of James, and
  12. Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor

(Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. Luke 22:3)

However, Mark was John Zebedee. (And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.) Acts 12:12

Each one is witnessing a specific aspect of Jesus' appearance, life and ministry.

Mathew: Establishes Jesus as Messiah, (The Lion of Judah)

Mark: Jesus the servant of God (his obedience)

Luke: Jesus The Son of Man (his humanity)

John: Jesus The Son of God (his authority)

It was important for these four aspects of Jesus (the anointed) to be established, to demonstrate his authenticity and authority.
No one else could fulfil all the offices that Jesus did (and does) He is utterly unique.
