Have you ever been rejected? It hurts your feelings.
Especially, when that rejection comes from someone you
love and that you believed returned your love. Father has
been rejected by someone He love. He has been rejected
by many of His children. We were created in His image.
He has feelings and emotions just like we do. It hurts
Father when His children reject Him. Let's begin our study
in the Book of I Samuel.

1 Samuel 8:1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.

Samuel hadn't discontinued being a judge himself at
this point in time. He appointed his sons to assist him due
to his age. They weren't assisting Samuel very well.

1 Samuel 8:3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
5 And said unto him, "Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. "

The elders of Israel were asking for a man king, like
the gentiles had, to rule over them. They wanted to change
Israel's government from a theocracy to a monarchy.

1 Samuel 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, " Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

The people of Israel had rejected God to rule over
them, and they served other gods. You know this had to
hurt Father's feelings . It also hurt righteous Samuel.

1 Samuel 8:9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. "

Samuel would go on to tell the people of Israel how
their man king would reign over them. He told them their
man king would take their sons and daughters and put
them to work for him. Samuel told them a man king would
take the best of their field's, oliveyards, and vineyards and
give them to his officers. He told them they would cry out
to the Lord in their oppression, but the Lord would not
hear them. The people refused to obey the words of
Samuel; and they said, "Nay, but we will have a king over
us" The people who rejected God will get their man king
Saul. Turn with me to Chapter 10:17 of this same Book.

1 Samuel 10:17 And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;
18 And said unto the children of Israel, "Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:
19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands. "

The first man king of Israel will be selected by lot. There
is little doubt this selection was accomplished through the
Urim and Thummim drawn from the high priest's ephod.

1 Samuel 10:20 And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

Samuel had already told Saul that he was going to be the
first man king of Israel ( I Sam. 10:1 ), but Saul is hiding .

1 Samuel 10:22 Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.
23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

Saul was a full head taller than the rest of the people,
and he was a handsome young man. He looked like a king.

1 Samuel 10:24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.
25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

Samuel most likely wrote down the responsibilities of the
king in regards to the kingdom and the Lord ( Duet. 17:14-20 ).
Saul would fail to obey God on two occasions. Saul rejected
the Word of the Lord. The Lord rejected Saul. Turn with me
to I Samuel 15:23 .

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

God had placed a ban on the Amalekites. That means
every man, woman, child, and animal in their possession was
also to be destroyed. Saul didn't destroy all of the Amalekites
and their possessions. Saul failed to obey God in carrying out
this ban, and as a result God rejected Saul from being king .

1 Samuel 15:24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
25 Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

Saul is the most powerful man n Israel. And yet he
feared the people ? It appears Saul was looking for someone
to blame for his disobedience other than himself .

1 Samuel 15:26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

Saul was rebellious and disobedient, and then he was stubborn to admit his guilt .

1 Samuel 15:27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

Now Saul had trouble "big time"! To lay a hand on one
of God's anointed is an expression of Saul's own self-will. It
is as though he things he can change God's mind by forcibly
laying hands on Samuel. Saul wasn't the only one to reject
the Word of God. Let's go to the New Testament .

Mark 7:1 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

The scribes and Pharisees weren't criticizing the disciples
for not " washing up" before supper. They were talking about
ceremonial washings where you throw a little water over your
left shoulder, do a little do-si-do, and turn it all about .

Mark 7:3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

All these things were according to the traditions of men.

Mark 7:5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

Father told us how to worship Him in the letter He wrote
to us, the Bible. Many have rejected His Word, and they
practice the traditions of men, even when they are contrary
to the Word of God. People start believing the rapture theory .
People start believing Adam and Eve took a bite of an apple
and that was the whole problem in the Garden of Eden.

Mark 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

You say, " Ignore the Word of God. You can give your
money to the church rather than take care of your parents,
and you will be free of sin". That isn't what the Word says .

Mark 7:12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

There is nothing new under the sun ( Eccl. 1:9 ). Many
have rejected God and His Word since the beginning. Many
reject His Son Jesus Christ, today. In conclusion, turn with
me to Matthew 21:33. We read the words of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 21:33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

The householder is God. We are the husbandmen . God
gave us everything we need to produce fruit for Him.

Matthew 21:34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.

Isaiah, Jeremiah, Zechariah, John the Baptist, Stephen and
Paul are but a few of the servants of God that were rejected
by the husbandmen . Who would God send next ?

Matthew 21:37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

The husbandmen didn't reverence Jesus Christ in the first
advent. The husbandmen rejected Him. They crucified Him.
The chief priests and Pharisees don't realize they are in the first group of Husbandmen , yet.

Matthew 21:40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.
42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

The Stone the builders rejected is Jesus Christ. The chief
priests and elders just passed their own sentence without
even realizing it .

Matthew 21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

Uh-oh! Jesus was speaking about them. They and their
ancestors took God's servants, and beat one, and killed another,
and stoned another. And God sent more servants, and they
treated them the same. Finally, God sent His only begotten
Son. They rejected Him! They crucified Him! You are very
special to Father. You haven't rejected His Word. You haven't
rejected Him, or His Son, in favor of the traditions of men.
He loves you for that.

To: miknik5 . Are you following what it is you are reading carefully ?

You asked, what do I mean, by " who would God send next " ?

That place, is talking about the parable of the " householder "
The place in the commentary you pointed out, is referring to Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ would be sent next, in that part of the parable...

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking other than that ?

Second, I did not write this short study.
I just Transcribed it.
Just felt like sharing ..
