I was reading through Genesis 1 today and I noticed something about the separation of land from water and the creation of the plants:

"Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree thatyields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.

It occurred to me that there is probably some significant symbolism going on. When God separated land from water, the land came up out of the water, just as someone who goes through baptism (the immersion method). Also, the fact that God created vegetation, plants and trees on this day. Those represent the newness of life in Christ and Christian growth. In addition, the land coming up from the water could represent Christ's resurrection.

(Not a doctrinal statement, just a point of view.)

The word of God is so alive and multifaceted I don't see why it couldn't have the idea you suggest running through it at the same time as the literal meaning. I wouldn't have noticed it without you pointing it out but it's nice.

That's what is great about The Bible and IMO one of the things that authenticates it as God's design. It's alive and of The Spirit. You can read the same chapter dozens of times, yet one day he will show you something you've never seen there before.

I don't see symbolic significance between the emergence of land in Genesis and baptism, but I guess both are a birth of something new. "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:4)
