The two great witnesses are the OLD and the NEW Testament scriptures.

They are the two great wintesses containing all the LAW and the prophets and it is these two witnesses that will testify for us or against us in the judgement (John 12:46-47)

Because Jesus gave us this end-time information and the book of Revelation so that we could make it known to others. Regarding the book of Revelation the Lord said:

"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star.”
Yes, we should certainly teach that God will send two witnesses, but why spend so much time and effort to name them when we can not know until they are revealed.

Zec 4:11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
Zec 4:12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
Zec 4:13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
Zec 4:14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

Rev 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
Rev 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
Rev 11:6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

The two witnesses would have to be beings of some sort, which I do not believe they are angels, and not 2 men that dwell on earth at that time, but must be 2 men that are with God that come to earth to witness to Israel to turn them to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah.

Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
Mat 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Mat 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Mat 17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Mat 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

The two witnesses could be Moses, for he represents the law,and Elijah, for he represents the prophets, and all the law and prophets hang on the 2 greatest laws, love God,and love people, who appeared with Jesus, who represents the New Testament, and the two witnesses will turn the nation of Israel to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah, which by the miracles, and plagues upon people so they do not hinder them, and dying, and being resurrected, the nation of Israel will turn to the truth, which the Bible says, and all Israel shall be saved, and the Gentile nations will come together and rebel against God.

Well I don't know really who they are, it's very likely they are in fact Moses and Elijah assuming they two witnesses are not based merely on not dying. The vision with the apostles Moses and Elijah on the mount of transfiguration is not one that a lot people tend to question. I mean he only took with him after six days Peter James and John and no one seems to question the reason this particular vision occured or why he only took those three. It's just my own thoughts here but what if say Moses and Elijah are being shown as the two witnesses in this and the fact that three out of the twelve apostles were there to witness this is actually symbolic? I mean there are twelve tribes, twelve different blood lines and only three were there to witness this event that I am pretty sure was more than God boasting of Jesus.

Rev 11:

3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

Two books?

verse 6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy:

verse 7 they get KILLED

verse 8 their bodies lie in the street

verse 11 they stand upon their feet;

WOW! What a couple of weird books

Hello FDD,

You are applying a literal interpretation to a spritual metaphor........

v8 And their dead bodies <rejection of God's Word> shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

They aren’t the ones who rejected the lords word

their dead bodies lie in the street because they were killed for their testimony of JESUS

The Testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prohecy (Revelations 19:10) This is what will be rejected (the Word of God) and those who procliam it.

How do you view the two witnesses?

serving GOD by providing the GOSPEL
Or not serving GOD by providing the GOSPEL

They are dead because no one will BELIEVE them anymore or those who proclaim their message

Every one who was resurrected other that Jesus died again. Hebrews 9:27 is a general statement. Obviously, those who are part of the rapture, will not face death.
Good point, but can you are anyone reading this post expound on the scripture that says It's appointed once for man to die.

Scriptural description of their physical assignment is rather convincing of them being two humans...in action.

moses and Elijah are at the mt of transfiguration. I don't think moses died. Deuteronomy, they couldn't find where he was buried on mt nebo
Please read Deuteronomy 34:5
Deuteronomy 34:5
King James Version

5.)So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

No one knows for certain so why speculate?
Besides, most of you believe you will not be here anyway.
Trying to educate some of the rest who might still be here! LOL!

I think the two witnesses will be Elijah and Moses:

(1) Because of the correspondence of the miracles done in Revelation and what these prophets did in the OT

5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
(Elijah)
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy (Elijah): and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will (Moses).

(2) These were the two on the Mount of Transfiguration

(3) Elijah did not die and Moses' place of burial was uncertain and hidden by God

(4) They are both mentioned by name in the last three verses of the OT

Malachi 4:
Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.[SUP]5 [/SUP]Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

The NT does say that John the Baptist was "Elijah", but it is also true that when John was asked if he was Elijah - he said "No". I think John the Baptist came in the spirit of Elijah, but this prophecy yet awaits a final fulfillment.

(5) If the church is taken out at the rapture, how will there by any people saved. God's plan is to sent back Moses and Elijah (literally) to begin a revival. How better would you capture the attention of the Jews than to have Moses appear?

Is this a guess? Of course! But there is good Biblical evidence to support the guess.

You can’t kill GOD’s WORD but you can kill those who are sent to hear witness and testify to THE TRUTH

Further, we, now on this present age as HIS WITNESSES have THAT WITNESS in us
however we are not allowed to let fire rain down from heaven to kill our enemies

So these two witnesses who testify of CHRIST since both the old and the New Testament point us to CHRIST are different from us and our ministry of reconciliation

they ARE allowed to kill those who reject the WORD

And these whom they destroy by the fire that comes out of their mouth...are these also figurative deaths?

And does that mean that Elijah figuratively killed the false prophets when he called fire down to destroy those men who were trying to kill him, figurative deaths also?

well All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
Jesus is the word of God and he was killed.

Let me think about that

I would add to that the strange verse from Jude about the body of Moshe.
There must have been something unique about his death. Deuteronomy & Joshua record that he died, but was he buried?

Jude 1:9
But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
