[for me anyway] it is as simple as the Lord Jesus Christ defines it saying "Go and sin no more": for if I am a thief, I must stop stealing in order for it to be worthy of repentance; or if I am a liar, then I must stop lying in order for it to be worthy of repentance: and so it is with every (known) sin that we have.
Repenting is to "feel pain" the pain of guilt for our sin that touches the heart, and causes us to amend our ways and doings: or again simply put, if I am a thief, them I have to stop stealing, and nothing wavering.
By the way guilt is a gift of God for our sake, for if we were to sever ourselves from the pain of guilt, then we would be as the unbelievers who dismiss sin as sin, and instead proceed from sin to sin.

So all these works. Total surrender, Baptism, turning away from sin, and it is these works of our flesh which causes God to give us the Holy Spirit?

Or am I misunderstanding you?

In the 6th chapter of John's gospel Jesus said, the words that I speak to you are the Spirit and they are life. From that time many of His disciples walked no more with Him and He said to His own disciples will you go away also and they said, to whom shall we go Lord; you have the words of eternal life. Peter had the keys to the kingdom of Heaven according to Matthew the 16th chapter and what he bound on earth was to be bound in heaven. When Peter preached Acts 2:38 3000 were added to the church on the same day and none of the 3000 had any problem with what Peter preached.

Seeking opinions on this:

1. Do you believe repentance is simply a change of mind that requires one to believe in Jesus only for salvation?

2. Or, do you believe repentance is one turning away from all sin?

3. Or, a combination of the two is required?
When God changes the heart, that also, in turn changes the mind.

Try telling that to people who find it difficult to get baptised.
Not because they do not believe but because they feel they need to be perfect and prove they believe but their works.

Or because they have a fear of speaking in public and have to the a great testimony.

Does only one receive the Holy Spirit when saved?
The baptism of the Holy Ghost is not an automatic unperceived unobserved operation of the Spirit. In the 8th chapter of the book of Acts Phillip preached to the Samaritans and they all believed and were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, but none of them had received the Holy Ghost. Peter and John went down to them and laid hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost. There was a wicked man there named Simon and he saw them receive the Holy Ghost and wanted to buy the power to impart the Holy Ghost to people by this we know that the Holy Ghost was an act of God that can be witnessed to. In the 10th chapter of Acts the Jews knew that the gentiles had received the Holy Ghost because they heard the Spirit speaking, in a heavenly language, through the mouths of those that received it. In one place we read that if the Spirit that dwelled in Christ dwells in us it will also quicken our mortal bodies. In another place we read that if we have not the Spirit of Christ that we are none of His. Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

It's both. People try to stick to the technical definition of repentance and say "It only means a change of mind!!!" (and they get really angry about any results of that repentance that equals a turning from sin, which is the necessary beginning of the process of sanctification; Hebrews 12:14&c).

One cannot be granted repentance from God, (2 Timothy 2:24-26; Acts 11:18) have a genuine change of mind about God and their sin, yet carry on in the same fashion concerning both at the same time. That would not be repentance.

But the hermeneutic of these same is inconsistent: They'll stick to a strict definition of repentance, "It only means a change of mind!" and any elaboration of the sense of this doctrine is rejected for the strict definition only.

Yet, when speaking of being spiritually dead, nekros, they'll not stick to the strict definition of this, rejecting lost mans dead state, inability and the need to be "made alive" (Ephesians 2:1-3) and say "It only means separation from God!!!!" rejecting the strict definition which means a corpse, dead.

This shows a totally inconsistent hermeneutic while toying with God's Gospel and his word. A consistent hermeneutic is 2 Timothy 2:15 in practice. Any other method falls short of fulfilling this passage.

I would say this just a few verses later sort of make actually departing from iniquity a requirement

v 2:19 " Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

iniquity is not defined as a change of mind, but is defined as immoral or sinful behavior.

someone that accepts Jesus, then needs to understand He didnt come so we can freely sin without consequence, he came to redeem us from our sins and call us away from iniquity because it is death. we have to first change our minds from thinking " sin doesnt matter i can do no wrong" and accept the truth " i need to repent and obey the Lord"

thats the change we need away from the false doctrines explaining how faith is seperate from what we actually do because of faith.

Once repentance is made, the other will follow as we daily walk, grow and renew our minds. Bible study, prayer, meditation and daily surrendering brings about the two.

I was Baptized and circumcised when I was a baby. I had no clue at the time as to why. It wasn’t a choice I made. Having said that; did I receive the gift of the Holy Ghost?

You did not receive the Holy Ghost. You must read the bible to educate yourself in spiritual matters; especially the book of the Acts of the Apostles. It describes how all these things happened and were conducted. the Holy Ghost is a an awesome experience as related in Acts 2, Acts 8, Acts 10, and in Acts 19. In Acts 2:38 Peter lays out for us the Path to receiving the Holy Ghost by Repentance, Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. The name is extremely important because we know that if we are obedient to what Peter said then the Spirit that we receive is the correct one backed up by the scriptures and we will know that we received it because the Holy Ghost will speak through our own mouth in a heavenly language that we don't understand. It happened with me in 1973 and it happened in the book of Acts and it is witnessed in other scriptures. Jesus commanded the apostles in Luke 24 that they were to preach repentance and remission of sins in His name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem.
