Hi all...I have a question or two about John MacArthur ...I have been listening to him over these past days and like what I am hearing , now I have been walking with our LORD for just over two years , so I am looking for preachers to listen to in my quiet time away from the bible , and this is what John said in one of his sermons...We were in Christ before the foundation of the world , we were on the cross with Him , we were in the tomb with Him , and now we are risen with Him...

I find this amazing , a new insight for me , which brings me to ask:confused: , now is here where I am stuck , can someone help me and thank you...Sorry if I come across confused , but this says to me that we have always been with Jesus before He was born on the earth , I have so much growing to do...xox...
I haven't read the other responses but I like listening to sermons on sermonaudio.com

I will post some links to sermons I like.

Someone on the forum recommended Ravenhill and I found the couple sermons I have listened to powerful.
.I might listen to the rest posted on this site when I get a chance

https://www.sermonaudio.com/search....tion=sermonsspeaker&keyword=Leonard_Ravenhill

******

Hope this isnt overwhelming.

I have found it useful in these forums to listen to the pastors folks quote and where they are coming from makes more sense,...sometimes it's like learning another dialect of English.

Hi Rosemary., I read your thread the other day and thought about you in the car on the way to town. If you were sitting in the seat beside I'd say you are so right! There are hundreds of Christian preachers and teachers to hear. Which one's do we listen to? How do we know? Who do we trust?

First thing is., each believer now has the Holy Spirit living inside so you are not alone in this and you are not left unequipped. He will lead you into all truth Jesus said. One of the important things for us to do right now is not fear and not fret about our lack.

Worry for nothing the Bible says. Also the Bible says the joy of the Lord is our strength. And the devil wants us to be weak. When we lose our joy and peace in Jesus we start to fret we are not doing something right and we then believe we are lacking. But in fact we are not lacking we have the Holy Spirit. The devil lied to Adam and Eve and told them they lacked., they fretting because they believed the lie.

Phil.4:6-7

[SUP]
6 [/SUP]Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition ([SUP][b][/SUP]definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
[SUP]
7 [/SUP]And God’s peace [shall be yours, that [SUP][c][/SUP]tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall [SUP][d][/SUP]garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

We have been given things already that were put in us when we were born again and made new creations in Christ. We are to water the seed by the washing of the water of the Word so those things can grow up in us. So your desire to hear good preaching and teaching is good and right and wholesome. 2 Tim.1:6-7

[SUP]6 [/SUP]That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [[SUP][a][/SUP]with those of the elders at your ordination].
[SUP]
7 [/SUP]For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

We are told to stir up the truth in us and we do that by allowing the Holy Spirit to remind us to remember it's by grace through faith in Jesus we are saved and safe. To grow in the faith by hearing and hearing the Word of God. By reading the Bible and hearing preaching and teaching about being saved by grace through faith. That we also now are to walk by grace through faith. All bought and paid for by Jesus.

The truth that God has not given us the spirit of fear. We have the Holy Spirit. We have no reason to fear when we reckon this to be the truth in our minds and we remember to remember. We have His power and His love and His sound mind. We stir up the truth by hearing and hearing it each day. He will lead us to what we need.

The enemy will try to get us to fret by getting our eyes on us and other people and the world. That we are not doing everything we can.,, That we need to do more......that we need to do this..... we need to do that...... ...and before we know it we are focusing on us and not Jesus and the truth that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Phil.4:13 And we lose our peace and our rest.

What I've learned is the first and foremost thing to do is to be diligent to daily enter into the rest Jesus died to give me. Rest in my salvation by grace through faith. Not by my deserving any of it but because I'm trusting just as when He first saved me by grace through faith., He keeps me by grace through faith. I believe that and rest in Jesus again and again.

And as I believe that truth., I give place for the Holy Spirit to minister and lead. His mercies are new every morning. We have been given this rest today as we walk here on earth. We need it today and that is why He gave it to us and we receive it by faith each day.

The amazing truth is that even if we don't have all the answers right now., we can rest right now in what we do have. This is what I wanted to share with you Rosemary. Blessings., Joanie

Hebrews 4:9-16

[SUP]9 [/SUP]So then, there is still awaiting a full and complete Sabbath-rest reserved for the [true] people of God;
[SUP]
10 [/SUP]For he who has once entered [God’s] rest also has ceased from [the weariness and pain] of human labors, just as God rested from those labors [SUP][a][/SUP]peculiarly His own.
[SUP]
11 [/SUP]Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell].
[SUP]
12 [/SUP]For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the [SUP][b][/SUP]breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.
[SUP]
13 [/SUP]And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.
[SUP]
14 [/SUP]Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him].
[SUP]
15 [/SUP]For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning.
[SUP]
16 [/SUP]Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].

But he sounds so sound Lyn...Who are we to listen to after the word...I mean , there are preachers who are are given the word to preach , everyone seems to have something against a preater...I am finding my way to listen to sound doctrine , and I know that man will fail against the WORD...But I am trying to be fed the word of God in times that Ii am unable to read , so who should we listen to , for it seems that there is always someone who comes against those who who we listen to ...

I read the Word , but I need human interaction , who shall we listen to lol , it seems lots have different opinions , why can we not just have the Word of God spread to all of us to understand , why so many diverts , what are we missing for all to have so many disagreements...Now I am just waffling , sorry...xox...
I'm still a 20th century gal. I'm used to reading commentary, not listening to it. Or, weirder yet, watching preachers on YouTube.

I'm slowly being convinced into watching though. (slowly. All things slowly. lol) But I just started last autumn, so you might even be ahead of me on this one.

We picked different guys. You went MacArthur and I went Sproul.

But honestly, I do know why I listen. I listen because I'm the 60 watt light bulb in the back. (Also showing 20th century there, because I don't get how to pick the newfangled lights now. lol) I listen to the brighter bulbs. Sproul is a brighter bulb. MacArthur is a brighter bulb.

So, it's fine to listen to them. Are they always right? To the best of my knowledge, yes! Then again, I just started listening to Sproul and haven't yet caught where he wasn't right. (Oh, wait. Once. He is of the opinion we have to get dressed up for church. I disagree.) And MacArthur? If I haven't listened yet, I can't tell you he's wrong. lol

But, I'll tell you this. I am laughing at how many are out to teach you what is right, when, so far? (And I'm only on page 1, so this might have changed.) Not a single person has heard that teaching from MacArthur to answer your question on if he is right. A lot are out to teach you, but they haven't even figure out what you want to learn yet.

I really do hope a MacArthur lover can explain it to you.

Hi Dino...To be honest , I feel like taking time out from everything and just reading the word of God...I feel as if I am reading the word and then going to others to clarify , I do not mean that I doubt the word , NEVER, but I need clarification to help me , I am alone when I read , I need help , It seems every preacher out there someone has something to say about them...I know that no one can be 100% accurate , but who is a sound preacher outside the word of God...xox...
I check out what the word says from others 90% of the time. I'm dumb-as-bricks. I'm slow-learner. I get the word at surface level while these men of God got it so deeply they could spend years just getting the meat out of the Bible.

It's okay to be dumb-as-bricks and need help. That's why God gave us men who do understand it.

Then we're left with the obvious question -- did they understand that right. In some cases, I disagree with them, because it doesn't set right with something else I read. Just as long as we can think it out to decide if they are right or wrong, it's good. I don't need to be a genius to read the Bible, but it sure helps when I can learn from those smarter than I am.

And, the Lord has blessed me with a question-authority attitude. lol

Magenta...Ii do not know what Tulip means to be honest...I am confused because to be honest I have stopped watching Joyce Meyers , not because I wanted to but because of what the bible says about women being submissive to their husbands , her husband is always sitting in the front row , regardless Ii will not say anything beyond that as she has has taught me many things , especially about abuse , but now I am looking to find someone as in male to listen to , I like Justin Peters , but he talks a lot about the WOF , that is not what I am looking for...

I am looking for someone to help me in my walk , but I am coming to think there is no one because everyone has something against someone lol...xox...
I judge preacher by what they teach and how they teach it.

They better be teaching Bible or I'm out of there. And I mean straight from scripture, line by line. If it's about me, it's not good enough. It has to be about God and his word. (Unless, of course, I want to learn something about history, or philosophy, or marketing. Hey, can't help it. Like marketing. lol)

And then there is how they preach it. If they're coming at me like "Me teacher. You student. Shut up and believe everything I do you stupid child," I'm also out of there. But if they teach it like they have the same problem with God's word and the same struggles doing what God asks us to do, then that is someone worth listening.

Thus... Sproul. lol

(Dr. Kennedy is someone I liked listening to also. James Boice was good. That's the sum knowledge I have for who I know is/was good.)
