Sin is an act.
When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:13-17
So hatred is not the sin, the sin is the hurtful, aggressive acts that result from the hatred.
The tree is hatred, the fruit is the sinful acts.
But if one had only the hatred, it would destroy everything else, even though the acts may
not show themselves.
So we have to deal with the source of the sinful acts not just appear righteous.
We will always have human passions, but they are not sinful, it is the inappropriate acts that are.
Legalists will claim it is sinful to even have the passions, which is where they believe original sin
resides and go so far as to say, sex is sinful.
In truth the only way to live righteously, is to have love in ones core, and be driven by love and
need in others and oneself.
Jesus called this cleaning the inside of the bowl, dealing with the source of sinful behaviour, not
just appearing to be righteous, but actually living pure, Holy lives. This is no easy thing and generations
of pious people have sought many ways to express this, often failing to grasp its reality.
The apostles say dwelling in Gods word, and obeying His ways, purifies us. And I would agree from the
testimony of my own life.
